been thinking about this. been pacing back and forth over this. 1735 is far too late in such a timeline.. considering the setting and the development it couldnt have happened in 1735.
thats more than thirty years from the begining of a daily newspaper in england. thats less than twenty years before that crazy Franklin fellow got his kite electrocuted. thats less than thirty years before the beginning of the industrial revolution. thats around forty years before british settlers landed in Australia.
considering fashion and cloathing development, the lack of industry, the significantly smaller villages all across Ru'uan, and the mixed fashion, the time period would likely be between the 1300s and the 1600s.
However. Guard armour also needs to be taken into account. specifically Garroth's armour from MCD s1, as its easier to date. his armour in fact would date the entire series as potentially a tad older, as he wears the armour of a Templar Knight. red cross and everything!! the Templar Knights or Crusaders lasted from the 1100s through to the early 1300s.
with that in mind, that would mean that MCDs likely actually takes place around the early 1300s, as, if memory serves me right, the Templar Knights mostly ended around 1311 specifically. and considering that, although Garroth's armour was canonically out of date, the O'Khasis guard armour also canonically looks very much like that of the Templars during that era.
the glaring issue to all of this is the fact that, well, MCD doesnt have any official dates. we know the religion of Irene the Matron is super old. we know that Templar armour was used and is canon to MCD. a majority of the commoner clothing certainly fits around that timeline and era. but for goodness sakes, Kenmur is in a hoodie, Brendan is Bolin--a character who exists during ATLoKs greater industrial to modern period, so from real world 1800s onwards--and Kawaii~Chan wears a maid outfit and is running a maid cafe in season one with freaking VOCALOID DOLLS. the series breaks its own immersive, 1300s adjacent environment in such glaring and often shockingly unintentional-to-unintentional ways.
Jessica Aphmau couldnt have predicted Kenmur and Brendan would have those skins, they were randomly generated. Kawaii~Chan explicitly being a catgirl maid running a maid cafe, an obviously modern style of place based on modern style appeals, and based on Jessica's appeals of tropes and character. but also like what the hell is Kawaii~Chan doing here looking like that in a MEDIEVAL SETTING??? bangs my head against the wall.
also, a lot of the major dresses Cadenza and Aphmau wear across the series are impossibly unspecific in their eras or proper inspirations. i have NO idea what even. like. what was Cadenza wearing in season 1. that dress makes so little sense. how does it even. where is the. HOW is that fitting into this era at all. at least the dress she makes for Aph later feels a lot more medieval and era suiting. im just shocked its so simple for someone of such high standing as a lord. and worst of all, neither dress lends us any idea what year or timeline they should be on. if this is the 1300s, they are wearing the most utterly incorrect getups imaginable. bringing what Kawaii~Chan wears into this just makes it harder, because in reality that is a modern style of maid dress and outfitting. shes wearing the wrong maid outfit for the 1300s and onwards till about the 1700s. i mean we are already looking at a timeline reminiscient of that, but its just. it complicates so many things. Kenmur wearing a hoodie is like a coughing baby to everything Kawaii~Chans hydrogen bomb episode establishes in MCD s1.
