Gavin recognises the voice, having heard it throughout his childhood and teens before joining the monastery. It’s even deeper now than when they’d fooled around as clueless teens, a slight rasp behind it, and Gavin closes his eyes to ward off the memories. He knew this would happen when he made the decision to move back. Then again… he’d always been an avid believer in facing his demons head on, even if it rarely worked out in his favour. And now, when he’d chosen the coward’s path, it had done him little good. Case in point, the man separated from him by thin wood and cloth; a man who he’d been avoiding for close to two months.

He still haunted Gavin years later. The first glimpse of him in the pews had nearly stolen his voice from him. Yet Gavin had persevered and powered through the sermon with not even the slightest waver to his tone. Pale blue eyes, piercing and glowing like butane flames, would follow his every movement. The man they belonged to always stayed behind to watch Gavin flitter from person to person when offering his gratitude.

The priest always retreated the moment Niles would begin to approach and every time the skies would darken with thunder rumbling overhead. 

“What troubles you, my child?” he replies and opens his eyes again to stare straight ahead in the dark enclosed space of the confessional.

“I’ve been having impure thoughts.”

The reply feels like a punch to the gut but what follows is so much worse. More so for the way as has Gavin’s heart pounding.

Neither Gavin nor Nines are good at cooking and always grumpy because the food was shit
