Stupid Movie Wednesdays
Wednesdayâs are for stupid movies.
I am pretty new to the hump day ritual that my friend Travisâ group of friends have, but I did partake in one monthsâ worth of stupid movies. And boy, it did not disappoint. The first movie I watched was Step Brothers, which I had seen before. They spent the entire movie just quoting it, and honestly it only added to the hilarity. Afterward, they spent 10 minutes discussing random facts about the movie, such as budget, who was president, and who won the Super Bowl the year it was released. I was impressed with this ritual and had to return.
The following Wednesday, the movie selection took a sudden nose dive into a mountain as we embarked on watching Tusk. This is when I realized that I had to start drawing imaginary boundaries on what I was willing to watch and what I wasnât. Tusk was by far one of the most disturbing movies Iâve ever watched. Itâs about an American asshole who goes to Canada for some reason, ends up at this creepy old manâs house who inevibilty drugs him, amputates his legs, and turns him into a WALRUS out of Human flesh. There is no happy ending. There are like 10 different monologues during the movie that completely throw you into REM sleep, AND somehow they got Johnny Depp to play a Canadian detective. It was the worst. I made a mental note to inquire beforehand about what the movie was going to be prior to showing up.
The third Stupid Movie Wednesday I attended was to watch The Room, which let me tell you is a FANTASTIC representation of good terrible movies. This was my FAVORITE movie. Also, James Franco made a parody movie about this movie called The Disaster Artist that I havenât seen yet, but will be watching soon. Despite the acting being awful, there were several unnecessarily long sex scenes. But this movie (which is what the GIF is from) was outstanding. Everything about it was amazingly terrible and Iâd watch it many more times if I had to.
The last movie I watched with those guys was Troll 2. It was Travisâ pick. I was unimpressed, however it did have its moments. Itâs called âTroll 2â but the evil characters in the movie are actually called âGoblinsâ. The masks of the goblins were inconsistant and there were two that were just plain hilarious. It was as if they ran out of all the other masks and found two random ones on the fly. There are several funny memes Iâve found about this movie, but overall, this movie is a PSA about vegetarianism and table manners at its core. The effects are consistant with its release year (1990) and the actors were probably pulled off of the street. Still not as bad as Tusk.
I donât have any plans on going tonight to Stupid Movie Wednesday and Iâm not sure what movie is going to be shown. It was a wonderous experience though. I may have to create my own Stupid Movie night in the future
My First Traveling Memory
[On Tuesdayâs, Iâll post about my past, present, or planned future travel experiences.]
It was June or July 1998. I had turned 5 years old in March of that year. My mom and dad had a video camera and brought it along, so there is a VHS tape of this trip somewhere. Thinking back, Iâm not sure how my parents drove from Columbus, Ohio to Maine with three kids in the back seat of a truck but somehow they did it. Especially since my older sister Andrea, and I didn't get along and I picked on my little brother Eric, relentlessly. Unfortunately, I don't know where in Maine we were headed, probably Portland, but Iâm not entirely sure. With a truckerâs map of America in her lap and the video camera on her shoulder, my mom guided the way (barely though because Dad would get mad and take the map from her. This all set in motion years of frustration during trips for my father and eventually, we stopped going on vacation). We made a pit stop in Niagara Falls, New York. I had no idea I was looking at Niagara Falls. My dad to this day will say, âThe Canadian side is much nicer to look at.â Once we arrived in Maine, we went to the beach, swam in the campground pool, went up in to light houses. Apparently, I made friends with a Native American boy who was staying at the same campground. There is a story floating around about a pizza that was devoured almost instantly. According to my mom, we almost got swept away by the high tide that was coming in during one of our beach trips. I remember when I started school that autumn, telling the kids in my class that I had swallowed a little bit of the Atlantic Ocean, so I probably fell down in the water. I felt so cool that I had swallowed ocean water. I don't remember the trip home, but it is probably because the trip we took the following year to Oregon holds better memories than this trip.
My New Yearâs Resolution is to donate blood; as much as I can, as often as I can. After giving birth to Allie and Nick, I realized the importance of blood donation. Anything could have happened and I could have needed a blood transfusion. My first time donating was February 15th, and it didnât quite go as I had planned. In general, I get faint smelling hospital smells and I once almost fainted watching a civil war amputation reenactment. Turns out, I will never be able to work in the medical field ever. I almost passed out just holding the bag my blood was going to go in to but itâs okay. I am O+ and my blood is in need. Everyoneâs blood is in need.. The next time I donate (April 11th) isnât going to be easy. I will probably nearly faint again but itâs okay. My blood could save someone elseâs life one day. Almost anyone can give, just check The American Red Cross website to see if you can!
When I listen to this song, tears well up in my eyes. I actually understand the pain and know the relapse one goes through when you are in a relationship that you canât quite let go of. I feel this song physically. It is so relevant. âYouâre my boomerang.â
