Love interests (see their links for appearances):
Merlin (m). He's old, prickly, sometimes mean... but less so to you than others, which is gratifying. His study is your sanctuary, his wit your sparring partner. You suspect your tutor is hiding a great many things from you, so pursuing him could be a bad idea. But perhaps you cannot resist an attempt to wiggle your way into his affections.
Sir Kay (m). King Arthur's foster-brother and seneschal of his lands. A behemoth of a man; tall, wide, thickly muscled. He's a brute, but he's carried a torch for you ever since you met him. Whether or not you entertain his affections is of course up to you, but the decision might be easier if only he stopped being so cruel to some of the aspiring knights who should be his protรฉgรฉs.
Sir Gawain (m). The bastard brother to King Lot, who's your sister Morgause's husband... small world. He is Sir Kay's best friend, though the two could not be more different. Fair Gawain is charitable, popular with the men at arms and so charming that he's widely known as the Maidens' Knight. Not that he is without his shortcomings; you would know, given he has somehow become a dear protector and confidant. Perhaps you still want him.
Sir Galahad (m/f*). An upstart knight from a backwards province, he should be fated to obscurity, but possesses strange talents and seems to carry a touch of the divine. Sir Lancelot brought him to court, so impressed was he with the young lad. Maybe you knew him long before he was presented to the Round Table, though. Maybe you've seen him in your dreams. If only Galahad, put off by your witchcraft, didn't hate you to the point of obsession...
Guenevere (f), the golden Queen of Camelot. Your brother's wife. She's the most beautiful woman in Albion, and the most talkative, and perhaps, paradoxically, the loneliest. She desperately wishes for your approval, but with the way she acts sometimes, it's hard not to wonder what else she might be wishing for.
Ninianne (f). The Lady of the Lake, ancient and most powerful fairy in all of Albion. She is the mother of Sir Lancelot, has tested your brother's might and appears to share a complicated history with Merlin. She's a mystery and seems to know much more about you than you can be entirely comfortable with.
Friends and family:
Ywain (m). The son you had by the husband you hated. Ultimately, your relationship with the child is up to you, but as he matures, one thing becomes certain: Ywain is nothing like his father. He's his own beast, strange and emotional, diligent and good.
King Arthur (m). Your half-brother who is five years younger than you. He found you, rescued you and now loves you as though you'd known each other your whole lives. He dotes on your son, aiming to provide you both with the best possible life and asking for naught but fealty in return. He's a sanguine, adventurous and chivalrous young man who was pushed in the role of regent extremely early in life, but is bearing up under the expectations.
Blanchefleur de Beaurepaire (f). Your best friend and penpal with whom you entertain a teasing mentorship. When first you meet, she's but a young girl, but already whip-smart, sharp-tongued and too persuasive by half. Over the course of your acquaintance, she has grown into the epitomy of grace and confidence. She still looks up to you.
Sir Perceval (m). The youngest man to ever be knighted at the court of Camelot and easily the weirdest. He's his own brand of innocent; blunt, cheerful and with the attention span of the average housefly. He is Ywain's favorite playmate.
Queen Morgause of Orkney (f). Your eldest sister. You haven't seen her since she married King Lot. You know that she's had two sons by him, but that's about it. Something about her is different, not at all as you remember... but then again, it's been such a long time.
Queen Elaine of Garlot (f). Your middle sister. Much like Morgause, you lost sight of her after her own marriage to King Nentres. She's passionate, wistful and a hopeless romantic. She seems hopeful that your sisterly relationship can be rekindled.
Setting: this is not a precise retelling of any particular Arthurian cycle and lots of liberties were taken with the characters. Albion is a highly fictionalized version of/inspired by 12th-13th century England and Brittany.
*literally.

No but I love Arthur being baby/silly at times because it balances out his more โadult/had to mature too soonโ moments and makes him seem the age that he actually is.
(my favourite is the elephant kingโฆ)
I'm glad! I had to put them in like for legal reasons because I don't want this to be another gloomy gritty medieval fantasy. Arthur isn't an emotionless stone faced king, he's really only a boy right now. A very strong and talented boy who came by the throne rightfully but still a boy, and I want him to feel like that when reading. Life hasn't chewed him up quite yet. He can still be elephant king for a while
(Anyone who recognizes that photo will probably shudder rn)
i love my arthur... ohh my sweet baby brother............ that scene where you can comfort him tears me apart bc he's just a boyyyyy. he's just a boy. he's no king he's my baby brother....... don't hurt him....
Nawww... I love seeing everyone treat Arthur as if he's like, a baby seal or sth. But don't forget, he really is a king and he really is that mighty โจ๏ธ

what would the ROs consider their best and worst qualities? do their opinions line up with what other people think and/or what you think?
Ooh tough one but I'm always up for a character study.
Merlin doesn't think he has any best or worst qualities, he simply is. And he finds himself suited to accomplish all he sets out to do.
It's pretty much the same with Ninianne. These two are both old, powerful and inhuman. They lack self-reflection, it's basically become lost to them as a concept.
Kay thinks his best quality is his protectiveness and his worst quality is his lack of battle prowess (yes, despite his size, he is not that great in armed combat on horseback. As soon as he can't use his size to lord over his opponent, he begins to lack, especially when compared to Lancelot or Gawain). Now, I think his protectiveness is good but he utilizes it as an excuse to be hostile and a bully... and the battle prowess is sort of a non-issue. His role being centered around the household. And he's still very capable of dealing killing blows, he's just not as excellent as he'd like to believe himself.
Gawain thinks his best quality is his kindness and patience with others, and I agree. He thinks his worst quality is his distorted form of nurture, and I also agree.
Guenevere and I think that her best quality is that she's generous, that she can please everybody and has never said an unkind word to or about anyone. She thinks her worst quality is whatever is related to the cheating. I don't quite agree. She's not heartless or overly lustful... shs just got married too soon because she mistook fondness and attraction for love.
Galahad thinks his best quality is his ability to endure anything God tests him with and that his worst quality is literally everything else. I disagree. I think his endurance is admirable, but his best quality is actually his bravery and selflessness. He trusts in God's protection and therefore doesn't ever hesitate to put his life on the line for the protection of innocents and what he believes is right.
His worst quality is that he doesn't believe in the inherent good in other people, nor in himself.
Honestly I really appreciates Merlin and the Merlin route (from what little has been shared)
Like we are our own seperate people with our own lives we don't need to hang out together or be lovey dovey all the time!! If I decide to live as a bird for three days as an "experiment" (sorry Ywain </3) or he does some magic mayhems in his tower and forgets that people exist, it's all good, we both get it and there are no hard feelings lol
Anyway, love your old (physically) frail ass Merlin. Muah
Yeah exactly! Occasionally, he'll forget about your existence, but he'll be happy enough when he remembers lolol
Old and frail, exactly the way Morgan likes her wizards, apparently <3
โMerlin. He'll never be the most affectionate, but let's put it this way: when he has accepted Morgan as his romantic partner, she'll know. โ
Can we get an example of this ๐ค๐โจ?
Honestly I love that Merlin and Morgan the m&mโs can have an unconventional relationship but does he make a move as well? He doesnโt seem really interested in a relationship with anybody (for now at least) and Iโm just curious about him
No example I'm afraid, I haven't written them in their relationship stage yet. Except... you can perceive extremely slight changes in his demeanor as early as the questing season in chapter 2.
Oh he definitely isn't interested in a relationship. He's only ever even considered it once, but that didn't go anywhere. He's quite resistant to just the thought of having Morgan that way right now. For one, he considers her too inexperienced, which... yeah, the age is one part of that, but also, he can only imagine himself with someone who is as powerful as he. On the other hand, the more she coaxes him to be affectionate, the more it'll become a habit until he'll eventually do it all by himself.
One day, he might just let her put her head on his shoulder without even thinking twice about it only to then catch it and go "that little shit has conditioned me!!"
Even then, you still have to make all the moves. For reasons. Except the final one. The very final step before he accepts you will be initiated by him.
finally played through the demo! really fun so far, I do feel bad for picking the choices where Morgan doesn't feel much attachment to the baby, but really with everything she's going through I felt like it made sense for my playthrough ๐maybe things will be better later
Also waiting for day we finally meet Guenevere, forget all the man I saw the art for her I want her. I'm sure dear sweet little brother Arthur won't mind, right?
suuuuurely not, he'll be happy to hand her right over, his whole entire wife
I love how much of a wierd, strange, angry little gremlin morgan can be <3 she's so endearing to me. I generally really dislike blank slate protags and I'm so glad she is pretty much the opposite of that. "so I did try to murder my husband in fact but PRITHEE LET ME KEEP THE BOOKS" legend<3 in the lessons with merlin playing as a short tempered Morgan is so much fun bc he really seems to respond positively to it? In all of the magic discipline routes but specifically the war caster one they have such a strange and wonderful tension that truly makes me feel like they are the only two wierdos in this castle who remotely get each other. Live laugh love m&m
yeeeeees you understand well I see
Honestly the more magic-obsessed and power-trippy Morgan acts, the more Merlin appreciates it. Unless she disregards his instructions, which offends him and makes him act petty lol i.e. the rash and eager achievement.
They really do get each other. That's my favorite thing about them as a pair.

I don't know if this has been asked before, but do the boys (RO + Arthur) know how to dance? (And if yes do they dance well?)
I am assuming the girls naturally know it because of the time period (Guen) and Nini has literally been alive for so long there is no way she can't sweep anyone off their feet
Since the boys are also noble men raised to be courtly, they do too know how to dance, all of them. Except Merlin, who does not.
Gawain is, unsurprisingly, the best dancer, despite his education being the most hard won.
poor kay being shy about his gut.. I never realized I was super into the chub until I started dating and now I can't stop cuddling their tummy... I hope kay will learn that some people really like that kinda stuff!!!!!!
hey look I know we all want a piece but can you imagine how much worse he would be if he thought he was good-looking?
Are all of their Orkneys (including Lot in this) pagan or is it just Gawain?
Just Gawain is pagan, but the other two are irreligious. Gaheris is the only one who observes the services, but more so because it's the polite thing to do, not because he believes.
Little math problem that appeared when I opened the game from the beginning: the first line in the story said 3 years before Ywain's birth ... M marries.
But later it's mentioned she was married at 15, that she's now 20 and it was five years of marriage according to that.
And wow, "The exertion of the last three hours has left me battered and broken."
Like, it was only the last three hours that were so painful? bc that's actually really fast for it to be all of the time it took? Because the dilation phase is usually not that fast (they SAY 1cm per hour) and hurts, too, but takes a couple hours to a whole night alone? I think average for first time is about 8h... as it's somewhere between 4 and 12. My friend took 38h and had to have a C section in the end, in several phases of this, which was terrifying, but that was a bit of an at risk pregnancy as a whole.
hi charcoal <3 thank you for pointing these out
I think that was only meant to be her in active labor, not the entire process, but I guess I still ought to make it last longer for more realism. I also kinda thought I had said more than three hours so this kinda made go ??
