since season 3 is so cerebral it requires multiple rewatches i just want to make sure i understand...so when louis cares about human morality that's bad and when lestat cares about human morality that's good and when lestat doesn't care about human morality thats good too but when claudia doesn't care about human morality that's bad and when claudia and louis face violence from the family patriarch that's not real and also justified but when lestat faces violence from the family patriarch that is real and not justified and when someone calls lestat a slut it's good but when he calls louis a slut its bad and when someone calls lestat a monster it's not true/good but when he calls someone else a monster than that's true/bad and when sam participates in claudia's lynching that's bad but when lestat participates in the exact same lynching it's good and when louis grieves her its bad but when lestat grieves her its good but louis can grieve claudia as long as he's doing it as support for lestat's grieving but he has to apologize for having emotions afterwards because it's really selfish of him to take away from lestat's emotions like that

With the way tvl fans speak you would think this show was actually a big mainstream hit and not a niche queer show whose entire marketing of the first two seasons was based on the goodwill of fans who talked about it nonstop, it isn't even big enough to hit the ilegal streaming sites the day the episodes release and we're all scrambling for links on twitter posted by ONE single person (sometimes two), you should hope all the fans upset by this season won't actually drop the show instead of making obtuse posts about how we should all "just stop watching". God forbid people have criticism after waiting two years for it to come out

the thought i keep coming back to with the finale, and this season in general, is a sense of… infestation, i guess is the best way to describe it. because for the first two seasons, iwtv was a work that— even with all its gothic/horror themes— seemed deeply compassionate at its core, and it remained devoted to beauty and love in a way that felt like a reprieve from (even a small rebellion against) the rising fascism of the culture surrounding it. and now it feels like the hatefulness it was pushing back against has infested it somehow, like a swarm of fuckin termites, which has not only ruined this season but also calls into question the structural soundness of what came before it. like, how did we even get here? was this sort of mean-spirited derision always just lying in wait? idk. i don’t want to make a bad season of tv deeper than it is, but it does feel like witnessing another loss in the cultural battle when a careful, compassionate work that ostensibly cared about the marginalised experiences it depicted becomes just another conduit for hatred toward vulnerable groups. what a fucking bummer, man
