Ramen

As summer changes to fall,

So do friends

Each growing

Adapting

Learning

But failing to keep the people wanted in our lives

Not by choice, but because of fate

Schedules change as do priorities

And I seem to always be at the bottom of the list

The wind will get colder like the people who’ve gotten comfortable with me

Soon to be forgotten like the fallen leaves of the tree

Just to be stepped on and swept to the side

As friends change with seasons, there’s always one recurring theme

Loneliness

It can break the strongest of wills and minds

Freezing you as do the harsh storms and cold of winter

Awaiting the warmth of spring that may never come

Awaiting to be saved by the warmth of the hearts of people nearby

Thoughts, depressing ones, eat away at you

Like a parasite it infects you

Transforming confidence into uncertainty

This parasite will leech off of other feelings

That’s what makes loneliness a formidable opponent

It’s okay to be alone, but feeling lonely is different

Like being stranded on a deserted island

There’s no one to consult

Is it better to be lonely than hurt by the ones you love?

The excruciating feeling of being abandoned, forgotten and exiled

The pain located in thoughts can never be escaped

Constantly reminded of the fact loneliness is absolute

It’s the feeling of affection being unreciprocated
