While I do completely understand where you’re coming from, I’m still going to have to disagree. Because even though I do believe that gender is a social construct, I think it’s that very fact that makes finding a sense of self and an identity so important. In this society where binary gender is forced upon us so often it is crucial to some people to figure out an identity that they feel comfortable with. And sometimes that comes with dysphoria. Because of how gendered our society is we are forced to believe that we must look a certain way in order to be valid and that is the stem of dysphoria in my mind. If we were just told that we are who we are no matter what and whether we have breasts or a dick or whatever we were still valid, then dysphoria wouldn’t be as big of an issue. So I do get what you’re saying and I know that some people are more comfortable saying that gender doesn’t exist in their world and that’s fine. But to some people (like me) having that identity- even if it may come with some downsides like dysphoria- is incredibly important.
