I definitely understand that! I’d been interested in it for YEARS before I finally started last year. The biggest things that helped me were YouTube tutorials from Sea Lemon and DAS Bookbinding and the resources from @renegadepublishing here on tumblr. 

For YouTube, there’s never a bad DAS Bookbinding video. This one on Stiffened Paper Binding covers a LOT of information all in one video but in a way that’s still easy to process. I’d recommend his series on a Case Bound book next, that goes a lot more in depth on things. For Sea Lemon, the two I’ve referenced the most are her Coptic Stitch Tutorial and DIY Hardcover Book.  There’s lots of other videos they’ve both put out that I’ll play in the background while doing other things, but those are the best to sit down and actually learn from. 

The Renegade Publishing group is a wealth of resources as well! The main Google doc here has a lot of links to resources. The number one doc I reference the most is How to Make a Book by ArmoredSuperHeavy that’s a tutorial from start to finish for typesetting in Word, printing, and binding. I’ve moved away from Word to Affinity Publisher for typesetting, but I still reference it because of how much good info there is. 

Thanks so much! I’m guessing you mean the title on the spine? The font was created based on Jane Austen’s handwriting, and I used a cricut to cut it out from adhesive foil which is why it’s so shiny. I’m so happy with how it came out!
