What a pretty night

★ Might seem surprising for a detective, but he's not that good (mostly due to inexperience mentioned before). However, he does very well for what he knows. He's pretty principled, trying to take control of the centre and developing his pieces.

SHUICHI --------------------------------

★ Has no idea what his chess rating is, as he has barely (if ever) played online and never took part in a tournament. Before you, his only experiences with chess were the friendly games with his uncle back when life was normal.

★ He knows basic openings, for example as white he'll mostly play the London. Matches with him mostly end up rather positional, but he doesn't shy away from taking the initiative.

★ Try catching him off guard with a bold exchange or sacrifice! The perplexed expression is priceless + as a bonus you get to see it turn into the deepest focus you've seen yet.

★ Regardless of whether you win or not, he will always thank you for the game properly.

★ If he loses, he takes it as an opportunity to learn and improve.

★ If he wins, he'll gently comfort you. He'll tell you that you can always win next time.

★ Surprisingly high rating. Maybe around 1600?? That's just a reference frame. No one knows where it came from, since he claims to hate the game.

KOKICHI-------------------------------

★ Do NOT play with the ragebaiter. Despite knowing great advanced openings, he plays THE GROB every single time. I'm dead serious. It's his bit and he'll never get tired of it. He loves seeing the disappointment in your eyes when he goes g4.

★ The worst part is that he knows how to win like this. Though it's gotten hard after the element of surprise wore off.

★ Before he started playing like this, he would sooomeeetimeees attempt fool's mate with you. Who does he think you are?

★ Talks all the time during the match. Apparently, alongside typical tactics such as forks, skewers or pins, there's a new one: distraction

★ May pretend to cry after losing. Be prepared.

★ Has an actual FIDE rating and it's around 1900. He is insane, but I think we all know that.

NAGITO ---------------------------------

★ You want to play with who??? Him??? Why? An Ultimate wants to have a match with him?? Aww but he's so so bad 😞. Honoured though! Will still gladly play with you!

★ He's really hard to beat unless you're like, the Ultimate Chess Player specifically. He's delighted to play and won't hold back.

★ Enjoys playing complex openings that have a bunch of different variants. For example, as black he might play the Sicilian if possible and he's prepared for nearly all that entails. As white, will opt for a gambit. No I don't know which one specifically, unpredictable in that regard.

★ Might go for crazy sacrifices that have you questioning if he actually knows what he's doing. However, that one move that "blundered" the queen pays off in the long run when he demolishes your position. Then you look up from the board and he's smiling like nothing happened.

★ Speaking of looking up from the board, whenever it's your move he looks at you. Intensely.

★ After the game, will thank you profoundly.

★ I'd say she's okay. She has only ever played online, but doesn't enjoy the standard version of the game as much as she does more fancy variants. Loves chess 960, loves chess with multiverse time travel, loves any goofy additional mechanics (like spells and other things) as long as they're implemented well.

CHIAKI -----------------------------------

★ Appreciates the game's long tradition, but prefers discovering something new in the more innovative iterations.

★ Uses gamer slang when talking about chess. For example, calls certain openings "meta". Have you heard of the king's pawn hypercarry? Whatever that opening is supposed to be... Genuinely you can't decipher sometimes.

★ Surprisingly forward with her attacks. When you ask about it she'll tell you in that calm voice of hers all about the strategic advantages of the offence.

whenever you actually do get cute aggression (rightfully so), Hajime gets oh so flustered and confused!

he's the type of guy who says he's average and there's nothing much to him. i think he's not completely the insecure guy since he wouldn't think much of it till it's pointed out. but he does get his "why..do i look chopped?" moments while taking a sad, hot shower or at 2am.

pls make him feel loved. pls. he deserves this.

so whenever you just go and hold his cheeks like a gleeful aunt and squeeze, while you're SCREAMING AND SCREECHING about how he sipped his juice "like a lil' cutie pie" he goes all like:

“Huh..? sipping like a- huh? how else do you drink orange juice??”

all while he's blushing beautifully. BUT he doesn't stop you nor reject it every time you reach out. he finds it cute!

he'd laugh a little when you drop a bomb of kisses and affection all over his face, it makes his heart flutter (and Kazuichi jealous, lmao buddy wishes for the same treatment)

if a day goes by and you didn't freak out all over him about how cutesy he looks, or more regularly, for EXISTING SO DAMN SIMPLY, he'd feel like there's something wrong.

but he won't ask, why?? well, he doesn't want to seem like a clingy bastard who can't live a day without the attention being on him. even if he loves feeling appreciated for the most basic stuff!

but if it continued, he'd check on you casually, and would be embarrassed as he talks if questioned why he asked.

“well.. you're my partner, and you're.. different, you're not all over me, like you used to..”

“not saying I can't live without your attention! I'm not a little kid who needs affirmations every two seconds. I'm just worried about you.”

he's not embarrassed by it happening in public actually, part of him likes it, especially since it portrays him as yours completely.

if you actually stop doing it? he'd notice. but not just because you stopped giving him attention, but you feel different, your eyebrow twitched different so it must means he's upset.

might act extra cute like giving that smile with eyes closed and head tilted, hold your hand and lean closer, or even be excited and hugging you. he wants to pull whatevers upsetting you outta you naturally.
