Back From The Past

Please explain to me how is helping and wanting to help people that suffered in a natural disaster a political thing. A political thing is the fact that civilians are the ones helping people out of destroyed buildings while the government is standing by, obstructing help by forbidding aid and not using the military or anything to help.

The dictatorship is what caused hospitals to not have supplies even BEFORE the earthquake. Why there’s no centralized rescue teams. Why there’s nothing we can depend on except the goodwill of our neighbors and friends.

I had originally drawn this illustration in 2024, after the presidential elections, and was too afraid to post it because I feared the government’s actions towards people who spoke on the matter online.

But now, it’s more important than ever to share it, to remember how strong, kind and thoughtful Venezuelan people are. If my art helps anybody, in Venezuela or elsewhere in the world, then it has done its job.

Originalmente yo había hecho esta ilustración en el 2024, después del período de las elecciones presidenciales, pero había tenido mucho miedo de compartirla por la respuesta que enviaba el gobierno a aquellos que compartieran cosas relacionadas con el tema.

Pero ahora es más importante que nunca recordar lo fuerte, amable y gentil que es el pueblo venezolano. Si mi arte ayuda a alguien, en Venezuela o fuera de ella, entonces habrá hecho su trabajo.

Here’s also a link to people who are out there in La Guaira and Caracas who are securing and buying tools to help save people from the rubble.

I’ll keep working on the commissions I have left and I’ll be donating those earnings to people I know that are currently out there in Caracas and La Guaira (the latter being extremely affected) securing tools, shovels, food and supplies for the people who are being rescued (because civilians are the ones organizing these efforts, the government is standing by, not doing anything)

That being said, I’ll be working at my own pace, and I hope that those who are waiting for commissions will understand.
