We need to put out periodic reminders in fandom that trying to argue in favor of the divine right of kings or defending wartime atrocities or rich people's entitlement to the deference of indentured servants or whatever is, in fact, way less compelling and far stupider than just going well, that character is hot and this is fiction so I've decided it's all good.

Wanting to fuck the evil demon king because he's gorgeous and tormented is far more respectable than trying to defend his actual policies. If someone accuses you of only liking him because you want to fuck him, you can just say yeah that's true, and then what? Either they kinkshame you or they leave. Checkmate.

I think consuming QL with wildly different levels of budget and experience has made me a lot more able to roll with imperfections and not let them take me out of the story.

My bestie is very discriminating about technical excellence and tone and pitch and believability and plots not having any holes or logical fallacies and I get it, but I feel like it’s very limiting.

And I don’t know, it’s kind of imagination-deficient? I used to let a bad special effect or implausible story element take me right out of an entire movie, but now I feel like, you don’t have to spoon-feed me perfection. I can have discerning taste and also allow leeway for things to go a little wonky as long as there’s enough good stuff in a piece to keep my imagination fired up.

(I also think there can be regional bias about what is and isn’t considered excellent, tonally non-cringe, plausible etc., but it was really the limiting nature of it all—and the inability to fill in a bit with imagination—that I was thinking about at the moment.)

#there is a time and place for crit #/sometimes i have to take step back and comment on the absurdity of the reach for suspension of disbelief #but 100% agree with OP and also you are denying yourself a lot by requiring technical excellence #prefer to meet a piece of media where its at #and see thru to what production was trying to convey or experiment with instead of writing it off

I love Tankhun so much. Specifically because of this scene.

He goes toe to toe with Vegas like it is nothing. Telling him to go home while not being intimidated or cautious at all. Sure, he might have a bit of a "free pass" since he is considered insane and traumatised. He also had all of his bodyguards in the room with him. But still!

I imagine him coming into the room and seeing Vegas looking like the cat that got the canary, and deciding to go all "big brother will help" for Kinn.

Banana Fish Timeline for Fanfic Writers

Hello! I've been working on this project for literal months, and I'm crazy relieved that it's finished. It was super fun, and now I know the manga more intimately than ever before, but whew! What a lot of work!

For those who are curious about the title, I've created this specifically as a resource for fanfic writers who need to sort out what happened when in the manga canon. Because of that, this sucker is DETAILED.

I've pulled out every official date, every approximate date, and then gave my best educated-guess-dates for everything else. Because so much of it is based on conjecture, please don't think that I think it's like the end-all, be-all of accuracy. It's not! There are issues that couldn't be resolved at all, so I did the best I could.

I fully expect this to be a living timeline--by that, I mean that if someone points out a mistake or a better reading of any situation, I'm happy to go back and make amendments, whether those be in the form of notes or changing the timeline altogether. This is a tool for the whole fandom, and I'd love as much helpful, critical feedback as possible.

is like soooo fucking bizarre and advanced i wish i had come up with it. you can say the plot was bad all you want but i dont think most authors could have constructed this. respect the swing, unfortunately.
