dirthara-anâ:
Dirthamen scoffed at the idea of his Varterral being a pet to someone.
âOf course it is not meant as a petâ, he said emphatically, while his hand shot out absentmindedly to once more keep the still a little unsteady little monster from falling off the table. Once it got hold of Dirthamenâs hand, the monster began to climb up his arm, until it found a somewhat steady perch on his shoulder, its docile behavior very much contradicting Dirthamenâs claim of it being unfit for a petâs role.
âI chose to name it âVarterralâ and it will grow. I have prepared a dungeon, where I can monitor itâs growth within the next month. By the turn of summer solstice it should have increased itâs own height a hundred times over. Then I can have it set up as a townâs guardian, protecting the People from enemies and powerful beasts alike.â
There was one specific beast Dirthamen had in mind, when creating the varterral, making sure it would eventually have both size and strength to take on such a beast and win. But he refrained from mentioning that. he knew his current guest was close with Mythal and for all the grief his mother had given him the past years, Dirthamen wanted the existence of the Varterral to be an honest surprise to her - albeit not a happy one.
âAre you sure? It seems cute to me.â He smirked, teasing, as it watched the newborn crawl its way up Dirthamenâs arm. âAbout to fall asleep on your shoulder.â
âSo fast to grow?â He perked a brow, curiously. A few months to grow a hundred times. Solas would stand and watch its growth, he mused. Perhaps that was exactly what Dirthamen intended.Â
He watched the small creatureâs movements, noting its speed, its nimbleness. âIs it intelligent?â
