Day 7 (Sat, Sept. 10) - Domestic Life (This was super cheesy to write and I loved every second of it

Peridot took a deep breath, adjusting her tie.

She was getting ready for her big fancy date with her two girlfriends.

But this date was different.

This date, she was going to propose.

To both of her girlfriends.

This is a thousand times more stressful than any other thing she has ever done. Every test, every final, every job. Even when she asked them both out without knowing how they not only felt about her, but how they felt about each other and poly relationships and everything.

Ok, maybe this was only a hundred times more stressful than that.

She looked at her phone and texted them to see if they were ready. Then she looked at the rings she had gotten them. One had a Lapis Lazuli, with smaller Peridots and Amethysts on the band. The other an Amethyst with smaller Peridots and Lapis Lazulis, because Peridot was a huge dork and of course she would have the gemstones they were named after.

She looked at her phone and saw them both give her a yes and left her apartment to pick each of them up.

“So… Dot?”

“Hm?”

“What’s the special occasion?”

“Yeah. Why are we being so fancy tonight?”

“Uh…” Peridot noticed her girlfriends notice her hesitance and worried look “N-nothing. Just thought it would be nice.” Did she seriously just stutter?

“Bull. Shit. Come on Per. What is it?”

Ok, she did have a back up plan. Which was actually true. “Ok. I wanted to wait a little longer before I told you this, but I got a promotion last week To vice president of the CEO.”

“Oh my God Dottie. That’s amazing.”

“Yeah Peri. Way to go.”

Peridot sat there beaming, playing with the ring boxes in her pocket. “Yeah, so since I get a raise and all that, I wanted to treat you two to something nice. Even though this really isn’t our norm.”

“Well, it’s definitely nice.”

“Yeah. Besides, we’re the kind of relationship that can have a date anywhere. That doesn’t just mean lazy dates at home or pretty little picnics at the park. It can also mean where people go on a date date.”

“Heh. Yeah. Well, now is the time to enjoy.” Peridot smiled at them.

Later, on the beach, the three of them were talking and aimlessly walking.

“Uh…” Peridot stopped and took a deep breath “Guys?”

Lapis and Amethyst stopped walking and turned around “Yeah Dot?”

“Well, I wanted to say. Um… The three of us have been dating for awhile now and I just was wondering if…” Peridot got down on one knee and took out the boxes, opening them up and holding them out on each palm of her hands “Will you marry me?” She shut her eyes tight.

Amethyst saying “Aw dang it.” was not what she was expecting.

“I-I-“ Peridot felt the tears well up in her eyes, the boxes slamming down closed as she scrambled to her feet “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have. I-“

“No no no. Aw geez. I’m sorry Peridot. That’s not what I meant. I’m just bummed because I bought two rings like three days ago and I was gonna propose next week. I wanted to be the one to propose. Of course I’ll marry you.”

Peridot flung her arms around Amethyst. “Jesus. Don’t scare me like that.”

They both looked at Lapis hopefully, who was laughing slightly “I was gonna invite you two over to my place because I have two rings on my dresser. So yeah, of course I’ll marry the both of you.”

Peridot and Amethyst pulled Lapis into the hug and the three of them stood there for awhile.

And each of them wore two engagement rings from then on out.

Day 6 (Fri, Sept. 9) - Swap Day (swap what? anything! clothes, gems, gem placement, etc.) (Mom swap au is best au

“Hey um… Peridot?”

“Yeah Lazuli?” Peridot sat on Steven’s couch, using her limb enhancers to search through her notes.

“Where’s the gem powered mirror?”

“Oh. I gave it to Steven. He wanted to learn about things, and I figured he should know everything about gem culture. It’s broken though, but he seems interested in it being just a mirror. Which is ridiculous. He has a mirror in his bathroom.”

“You gave it to Steven?”

“Yeah.”

“Are you sure that’s safe?”

“Why wouldn’t it be safe? It doesn’t work. And even if it did, what could go wrong with him finding out some gem history?”

“I just… Don’t know if the gem in the mirror is still conscious. I don’t recognize the gem. What if she’s was from homeworld?”

“It’s broken Laz. Don’t worry about it.” Peridot and Lapis heard Steven climb up the steps to his house. “Here he comes now. It’ll be fine. Trust me.”

“Guys. I fixed the mirror.”

“Really?” Peridot lifted an eyebrow “How?”

“I don’t know. But you didn’t tell me it was like a person.”

Lapis’s eyes went wide and then went to glare at Peridot. Who sheepishly looked at anywhere that wasn’t Lapis or the mirror.

“It shouldn’t be talking to you. It should only be taken orders. I knew this was a bad idea.”

“What? It wasn’t a bad idea. She’s really cool and funny and-“

“Steven. Give me the mirror. We should really keep an eye on it.” Steven’s screams of “Nooo” coming from the mirror was very unnerving to Lapis.

“Yeah Steven. Don’t worry. We’re not going to hurt her. We just wanna run a diagnostic on her gem.”

“But… Can’t you hear her? She’s scared.”

“Steven. Hand it over.” Lapis reached for the mirror, which made Steven pull his arm back, which made a stream of water snake out of the sink and hold Steven up.

The mirror fell to the floor and hit just at the right spot to nudge the gem out of place.

An Amethyst appeared.

A very small Amethyst appeared.

Peridot and Lapis were in front of Steven faster than the speed of light. Peridot’s fingers forming a laser and more water coming out of the sink.

“Wait. Please. I mean no harm.” Her cries were desperate and scared. Nothing that the two gems haven’t heard before.

“Are you a homeworld gem?”

“I don’t know. I was made on Earth, but there was some war and I got caught in the middle of it. They thought I was a crystal something or other and wanted to use me to get to my base. But I didn’t know what they were talking about.”

“Laz…” Peridot’s fingers didn’t change shape, but she lowered her arm “She doesn’t have a diamond on her.”

“She doesn’t have a star either.”

Steven stepped in front of Amethyst “Please guys. She’s my new summer beach fun buddy. Maybe she can be helpful to the team.”

Lapis sighed “Fine. Maybe. Steven, stay behind us. Amethyst, can you summon your weapon for us? We just wanna see what we’re working with.”

Lapis was pleased that Amethyst waited for Steven to get behind Peridot before pulling out a whip.

Peridot’s fingers turned back to normal as she walked over to Amethyst and admired her “Woah. I’ve never seen a Quartz make a whip like this. And especially from such a small one. Lemme guess, cooked in the ground too long?”

“That’s what they told me before punching me.”

Lapis sighed, dispersing her water and looking over at Steven. Which was a major mistake. No way was she ever gonna say no to those puppy dog eyes. “Fine. You seem to have Peridot’s approval. You can stay. But if you slip up for even half a second, I will know.”

“R-right.”

“Thank you Lapis.” Steven plowed into her with a hug, making it impossible for Lapis not to smile. “Come on Amethyst. I’ll introduce you to everyone in Beach City.”

“You already did lil’ man.”

“But not in your real form.”

“Truth.”

Lapis watched the two of them leave.

“You sure about this Laz?”

“Am I sure about this? You’re the one that left me hanging to go all gaga for her whip.”

“Right. Sorry.”

Day 5 (Thu, Sept. 8) - Amusement Park (It doesn’t have to be shape shift land

“So, why exactly did you rip the bowtie of the alien you won? You were so hell bent on winning it. What happened?”

Peridot glanced away from Camp Pining Hearts to look at Amethyst and then shrugged “I got bored of it. But Lapis dared me to try the bowtie on and I looked good.”

“You got bored of it? What happened to the ‘Caring eyes’ or whatever you saw in it?”

“They’re just beads Amethyst.”

“You couldn’t have realized this before you got all mopey.”

“I wasn’t just, as you say, ‘mopey’ about the alien. I was upset about not being able to shapeshift in shapeshift land. You know this.”

“It’s called Funland. And you don’t have to shapeshift. Steven and I were just trying to encourage you to shift with us. If we knew then that you couldn’t, we wouldn’t have done it so much.”

“Guys. What’s Funland?”

“You haven’t been? Oh my god Lap, you have to go. And you’re already tall so no shapeshift needed.”

“For her. But what about us?”

“Uh… One sec. I think I saw something in one of these boxes.” Amethyst hopped off the truckbed and started searching through the barn. “Aha! Here we go.” She pulled out two pairs of boots. “These heels should be high enough. Put these on.” She tossed a pair to Peridot and then put on a pair herself.

Peridot blinked at the shoes. “What are these for?”

“They make you, like, half an inch taller. That should be just enough to get you over the mark.”

Peridot shrugged and pulled them on “They feel weird.”

“That’s shoes for ya. Come on, let’s go.”

“That’s supposed to be fun.”

“Yeah. Wasn’t it for you?”

“I piloted a spaceship that traveled at much faster speeds than that. I can teleport on warp pads. One of girlfriends can fly. And this is supposed exciting and fun? Humans are so easily amused.”

“Are you serious? After I came up with this brilliant plan to get you on the ride, you didn’t even enjoy it.”

“It wasn’t a horrible experience, I just feel like it wasn’t worth the wait.”

Lapis rolled her eyes “Is that why you were holding onto my wrist with a death grip the whole time?”

“I was not. That must have been someone else.”

“Someone else with green fingers?”

“…Yes.”

“Aw. Per. Were you scared?”

“Of course not. I have been in much more drastic situations than that.”

“Uh huh.” Lapis ruffled Peridot’s hair. “Sure sweetie. What else is there to do here?”

“Well, the Roller Coaster is the most fun part of Funland. But there’s other stuff. You guys wanna go on the Ferris Wheel?”

“What’s that?”

“The giant round thing. It’s doesn’t go fast, so Peri won’t get scared.”

“I wasn’t scared.”

“Sure you weren’t babe. But it goes pretty high up. It gives you a really nice view of the town and the ocean.”

“…I can fly.”

“Look, it’s a classic datey thing. To go on a Ferris Wheel with your significant other and be all romantic and gross.”

“Alright. If it’s a human date thing, then fine. We’ll try it.”

After waiting in line and convincing Mr. Smiley to let all three of them squeeze up into one cab, they all sat and squished against one another.

“Aw man, how is it already sundown?”

“We should probably leave after this if we wanna back home in time for the Camp Pining Hearts rerun.”

“Why do you do that? You have all the episodes on dvd, and you hate commercials.”

“Because the fact that the tv stations actually are smart enough to play a good show makes me happy inside and-“

“Guys, sh. Look.” Lapis pointed towards the sun setting. Looking like it was falling into the ocean.

“Woah.” Peridot grabbed her tablet and snapped a photo. Her photos were getting better. A lot less blurry, and she remembered to move her finger out of the way now.

“Ooo, Per. Turn the camera around. Let’s take a selfie.”

“Yeah ok.” Before Peridot could take the pic, she felt Amethyst and Lapis kiss each of her cheeks.

“Lemme see.” Amethyst grabbed the tablet and opened up the picture. “Aw yeah. This is super cheesy and gag worthy.” She hopped off when the Ferris Wheel came to a complete stop.

“Is that a good thing?” Peridot followed after her, grabbing each of her girlfriends hands.

Day 4 (Wed, Sept. 7) - Free Day (Second war for the planet. Yay!

It was getting near impossible to see victory.

Hell, it was getting near impossible to see survival.

All the pep talks the crystal gems gave about how the first war had more homeworld gems with more tech and this isn’t any different was bullshit. The difference between now and then was their tech was even better and the rebels were even less.

Not only that, but the archaic gem tech the crystal gems did have were ruined from this dumb planet’s nature.

Lapis just wanted to grab them and leave.

To be honest she just wanted to grab Peridot and Steven, but Peridot would make her save the other gems, and Steven would make her save all humans.

Since she physically couldn’t just pick up the Earth and put it somewhere out of harm’s way, she stayed and fought.

And that’s when a Carnelian grabbed ahold of Peridot.

No. That wasn’t fair. Peridot was still learning her powers. She hardly hit anyone yet. Why take her first? Lapis went to attack the Quartz when she saw Amethyst going after her too. Both of them stopped by other soldiers.

Slowly she felt Amethyst back into her.

“Crud. Let her go!” Lapis saw Amethyst’s whip take out two soldiers, but more gems replaced them. She glanced over at Peridot and the Carnelian was just taunting her. Not using her weapon, but just squeezing her. Prolonging the pain. It was sickening to watch.

Lapis prayed the other crystal gems could help, but Garnet and Pearl were further away. Connie and Steven were trying to make their way over, but still weren’t as close as she and Amethyst.

Lapis tried to fly up, but was smacked back down by a Chrysocolla. She tried to focus on drowning all of them, then maybe Amethyst could have some time to save Peridot. But she couldn’t focus. She was panicking

“Hey Lapis. I know you’re not a huge fan of it, but I don’t really know if we can fight off these guys alone.”

Lapis blinked. It took her a moment to understand what Amethyst meant. But when she realized it, she was conflicted. She knew that they had to do this but she didn’t know if she was ready to do it yet. Or ever. And with Amethyst…

A piercing cry from Peridot sealed it. She grabbed ahold of Amethyst’s hand and saw her gem light up.

And suddenly she was Tanzanite.

Quickly, she flew up, pulling out her whip and hitting everyone in sight.

And then she punched the Carnelian right next to her gem. Lapis wanted to hit the gem, but Amethyst must of shown mercy. It didn’t matter, because the gem dislodged and with a poof, the Quartz was gone and Tanzanite hugged Peridot close with three arms, while the fourth arm was whipping like crazy.

They flew back to the barn, where the war hadn’t gotten to yet and only when they got inside did they unfuse.

Lapis fell to her knees. She and Amethyst were still holding tightly to Peridot. Making sure she was ok.

“Guys. I’m fine. Peridots are tough. My gems not cracked. I’m ok. Let’s go back and fight.”

Peridot and Amethyst ran into Lapis and Peridot’s shared apartment and started excitedly rambling and talking over one another as Lapis sat on the couch with her book lowered, wide idea and beyond confused.

“…what?”

“Lemme tell her.”

“Fine. Fine. Peridot and I saw this contest at the mall and we signed the three of us up.”

“Hey!”

“Sorry. I’m just so excited. You can tell her the details.”

Lapis blinked, having more questions than answers “Contest?”

Peridot shoved the flyer in Lapis’s face, making it too close to read “Battle of the Bands. It’s gonna be great.”

Lapis sighed and took the flyer from Peridot’s hand, finally being able to read it. “I can’t play any instruments.”

“You can sing.”

“Ok. Sing what? The contest, according to this, is tomorrow. We don’t exactly have any lyrics. Or a tune. Or anything.”

“It says covers are acceptable.” Peridot pointed to the fine print at the bottom of the page before and Amethyst started to say in unison “Please Lapis. Please please please please please.”

“…I guess you already signed us up…”

“Yes! Told ya she’d do it!”

“Yeah yeah. Come on. What should we play?”

Lapis kept looking over the flyer “Can I choose? I kinda have a song I wanna sing.”

“Is it the Camp Pining Hearts theme song?”

“That song doesn’t have lyrics.”

“Right. Nevermind.”

Lapis sat in a fold out chair set up in front of a portable stage in the main area of the mall. It wasn’t extremely comfortable, but comfort was pushed aside by nervousness. Amethyst came back from the front table, checking to see how much longer until they went on.

“After these people, there are three more groups before us.” She slumped down next to Lapis. “Nervous?”

“Yeah. But I think everyone is.”

Peridot came running back and sat on the other side of Lapis. “Ok. The stage manager has our instruments and staging.”

“Good.” Lapis looked at the current band. They seemed so nervous even though they were doing so well. She hoped that would be what other people thought when they were up. Her attention drifted off to the side and her eyes scanned across someone she did not want to see.

Jasper.

Her ex.

Her very easily angered ex.

She hadn’t noticed her, but she was definitely intrigued by the contest. Lapis prayed that she would lose interest before she went up.

Instead, Jasper took a seat.

“Fuck.” Lapis muttered, then regretted saying it out loud because now Peridot and Amethyst were looking at her, and before she could stop them, were looking at where her glance was.

“What the hell is she doing here?”

“It’s a public place Per. It’s not like she’s not allowed at the mall.”

“Are you ok Lapis? We don’t have to go up.”

“I’m good. But… Can we change the song?”

“We’re up in like 20 minutes.”

“I can print out new sheet music at FedEx. And you guys know this song. Please?”

“Fine. Be fast.”

Lapis saw the band scheduled before them setting up. She walked to the stage manager and told them to put this music in the stand instead. Then joined Peridot, who was getting her guitar ready, and Amethyst, who was twirling her drumsticks, at the side of the stage.

“What song are we doing?”

“Oh. We’re doing G-“ Lapis was cut off by the band and tried to tell them, but of course they couldn’t hear her “You’ll see.”

Applause was heard and Lapis felt herself going up the steps and stepping up to the mic. She saw Jasper recognize them and almost ran off. But before she could, she heard Peridot playing the opening riff.

She took a deep breath as Amethyst started playing and

Lapis felt the world stop until she heard the applause. Looking up, she saw Jasper turn up her nose and walk away. Probably the best response she could get.

Her legs made their way off stage, and she could hardly hear the congratulations and excitement from her two bandmates.

As much as she hated keeping her feet imprisoned any longer than absolutely necessary, Lapis had learned to keep her shoes on in the apartment until she reached the absolute safety of her bedroom. Today was a prime example of the reason for that.

“Don’t ask,” Amethyst said, filling the smoking garbage can with fire extinguisher.

Lapis closed the door behind her and stepped over a flaming paper plate. “Wasn’t planning on it.”

“I thought it’d be a good idea to clean up and get rid of the garbage by burning it,” Amethyst answered anyway. “For some reason it didn’t go as planned.”

“‘Kay.” Just a few more steps and she’ll be safe in her room and she can turn her music all the way up and finish studying and ignore everything about this–

“Wait.” She turned. “What are you cleaning up for?”

“My girlfriend’s coming over in, like, two minutes.” Amethyst doused a tiny flame on top of the fridge. “She kinda likes things nice.”

Lapis arched one eyebrow. “Girlfriend?”

Day 2 (Mon, Sept. 5) - Slumber Party (Amethyst gets Lapis and Peridot to try sleeping. It goes differently than expected

“You guys haven’t tried sleeping?!?!” Amethyst had come out to the barn to hang out with her girlfriends. But was absolutely horrified that they had never slept before. Ok. So she was joking about being horrified. But she still wants them to experience it.

And all she got was a disinterested shrug from Lapis “It seems to be a waste of time.”

“Time we can use for important stuff.” Peridot added in.

“Like obsessing over Camp Pining Hearts.”

“Yes.”

“Hey. Don’t judge me and Dot when you waste just as much time with Lil’ Butler.”

“That’s because Lil’ Butler is actually good.”

It’s amazing how fast Lapis can grab an about to attack Peridot. “She’s just teasing you. She knows that CPH is much better.”

“Yeeeah. Let’s go with that. At least Lil’ Butler doesn’t have a thousand plot holes.”

“At least Camp Pining Hearts deals with problems that anyone less than billionaires can relate to.”

“That’s the joke.”

“Well it’s bad to use the same joke more than once. Let alone for 10 seasons.”

“At least my show didn’t get canceled in the middle of the 6th season.”

“It should have been.”

“Gems.” Lapis put a hand on each of her girlfriends’ shoulders. “We were going to try sleeping?”

“Right.” Amethyst took a deep breath. She had no idea she was just as defensive of Lil’ Butler as Peridot was of Camp Pining Hearts. It kinda scared her how nerdy she just was. “So, sleep is pretty simple. It’s supposed to regenerate human’s strength or whatever. It feels good. And it’s great when you’re waiting for something because sleep feels a lot faster.” She went looking through the barn, trying to find something like a mattress or pillows or even just a bunch of clothes. “Didn’t this barn use to have a couch?” A couch would be a bit tight for all three of them, but she could make it work.

“Oh yeah. We had to move it to the platform without a ladder. I’ll get it.” And with a spread of her wings, Lapis was in the air before anyone could object. “Look out.” She pushed the sofa down, almost hitting Peridot, making her jump to Amethyst. Quickly she flew back down “Oh jeez Dot sorry. I had no idea it would bounce.”

“I’m good. It’s good.” Peridot let go of Amethyst and cleared her throat, holding her hands behind her back and hoping that made the others forget what just happened.

“Yeah. Anyway, lay down on the couch.” Amethyst ordered.

“Why?”

“It’s easier to fall asleep while comfy.” Amethyst hopped over the back of the couch and lay on her side.

Lapis lay next to Amethyst, facing her. “And how exactly is Peridot supposed to fit on this?”

“Uh… She could… Um…”

Peridot shrugged and lay on her stomach on top of them. Hugging them both as Lapis and Amethyst had the same thought of hugging Peridot with their free arms.

“Now what?”

“Close your eyes and kinda just be quiet like you’re pretending to be asleep, then you’ll soon fall asleep.”

All three did as Amethyst said and all three had managed to fall asleep not too long after.

But that didn’t last long.

Peridot woke up when she felt a strong hand grab onto her as she dangled off the side of the couch. She was pulled up by Amethyst and was ready to give her an earful when she noticed Lapis resting not so peacefully. “What’s she doing?”

“I don’t know. She woke me up with her muttering a few minutes ago and then started tossing and turning. If it wasn’t for my awesome reflexes, you would have hit the floor just now.”

“Is she ok?”

“She’s having a nightmare… So not really.”

“Nightmare? What’s that?”

“Well, when you sleep, you see little projections in your head. Usually they don’t make much sense. And every once in awhile, those projections can be pretty bad. I should have know Lapis would ha-“ Amethyst was cut off when she saw little drops of water coming into the barn. Most likely through the pool outside. And then they started taking shapes. It wasn’t as clear as Pearl’s projection, but it was pretty obvious what she was dreaming about when a pair of handcuffs took form. And then wrapped around Amethyst’s wrists and pulled her down onto the ground.

“AMETHYST!” Peridot ran down to her and tried to rip the handcuffs off, but to no luck.

They both felt a rush of relief as they saw Lapis stand up. But that quickly changed back to fear and worry when her pupils were gone and the handcuffs only extended to extend to Lapis’s wrists too.

“You gotta wake her up.”

“How?”

“Try shaking her.”

Peridot nodded and grabbed Lapis’s shoulders, trying to shake her awake. She was only pushed away.

“It’s not working!”

“Make loud noises.”

“Like what?”

“Anything.”

Peridot thought for a moment, then she ran to the boxes near the door. Grabbing all the instruments, she made them float right next to Lapis’s ears and then made them all clang at the same time.

Lapis fell and the water disperses from both hers and Amethyst’s wrists. Peridot ran over to Amethyst. “Oh my stars. Are you ok?”

“Yeah. Just a little sore. And jeez that was loud. But I’m good. Go check on Lap.”

Peridot nodded and walked over to Lapis, who was blinking her eyes open. She looked around and saw the instruments all fallen around her “What happ-“ She paused as she saw the two streaks of water. Remembering her dream, her eyes went wide. “Did I… Oh no. Are you two ok?”

“We’re fine Lapis.” Peridot hugged her close “Just a bit shook up.”

“I guess I’m not as healed as I thought.” Lapis slumped against Peridot and sighed “I really thought.”

“Hey. It’s ok. Nightmares bring your worst stuff out. No matter how long it’s been. Just because you had a nightmare doesn’t mean you aren’t doing any better.”

“Yeah Lapis. It’s alright.”

“But I put you two in danger.”

“Yeah. But it wasn’t too bad. We managed to stop it.”

“Can I suggest one thing?”

“What?”

Lapis hugged both of them with each arm. “No more sleeping.”
