Spyfest is an annual writing event for the Alex Rider fandom. Spyfest consists of a four-week-long story competition and a fic exchange that is held in the last week of July. Here are the details for the annual fic exchange!

If you sign up for the exchange, you are agreeing that you will receive a match on July 1st via your preferred method of contact (either via email or Discord). The person you are writing for will not be writing for you, and you should keep your identity secret from the person you are writing for. Between July 22nd - July 28th, you will upload your fic to the Spyfest 2021 collection on AO3. Identities of those who wrote each gift fic will be revealed around August 3rd.

To sign up for the fic exchange, complete the Google form HERE. You’ll have the opportunity to come up with prompts for the fic you’ll receive and list preferences for what you’d like to read and write (and what you’d like to avoid) on the form!

Ay, I am in the camp of "I'm writing this because I want to read it" so here are two ideas in the AR fandom that lurk/float around my headspace:

ONE: Yassen shares custody of Alex with MI6, Hades and Persephone-style: Alex spends half the year with Yassen, and half the year with MI6. Each of them thinks he's a double agent for their side. Only Alex knows where his loyalty lies, and which guardian he considers winter and which spring.

Character-wise, I am really intrigued by an Alex who has a strong sense of self and sets his own terms. I would want him to be 100% aware of both parties' agendas, but he has goals of his own and finds ways to play Scorpia and MI6 off each other. I would also love to see Mrs. Jones and Yassen juggling their dual roles as Alex's handler and surrogate parent figure.

TWO: Hear me out on this one: Game of Thrones crossover 🐲😜Yassen's diverse appearance across the books, TV, and movie is a source of never-ending amusement. I want a 20k chronicle, written in the laborious historical style of Fire and Blood, with Alex Targaryen as vengeful dragon-Rider who crosses the Narrow Sea and seizes the Iron Throne back from Stannis (Alan Blunt, of course) and encounters blond!Yasha Lannister, redhead!Cossack Tully, and brunette!Yassen Stark along the way.

Alex has hidden motives, a keen head for politics, and mf dragons, but he is also racing against the curse of all Targaryens: "Madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin. Every time a new Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin."

I thought we said no firearms until he turns sixteen. 

Her messages chimed less than two minutes later. 

Is handling incendiaries considered less dangerous than learning how to shoot a hunting rifle now? 

Tulip frowned. Incendiaries? She stiffened as it dawned on her. Smithers. Alex spent entirely too much time in his lab. He must have nabbed a gadget or two on the sly. 

Not that she was going to admit that to Yassen. 

He’s equipped purely for self-defense. In case of emergencies. 

There was a pause until she received the next message. 

He’s under my protection here. Don’t bother concealing a block’s worth of C4 in chewing gum and zit cream next time. That just makes it seem like he has something to hide. 

You’ll have to pardon me for hesitating to send him naked into the underworld, she sniped in her response, although in reality she and MI6 had done just that. But don’t change the subject. We agreed no firearms until age sixteen. Before you blow up the rules, call me first.

Fine. But if this is about what’s best for Alex, you would have already taught him to shoot. Before Cornwall. The clapback came, as expected. 

We can go down this rabbit-hole all night. I’d rather spend time firming up Alex’s plans for the next six months. A petty reminder that Alex was MI6′s until September. Call me first next time, Gregorovich.
