Sam and Dean found this at a thrift store when they were kids and started gifting it back and forth as a joke whenever the other one did something they liked or were proud of, or wanted to tease them about. Sometimes it would switch hands every few days, sometimes it would be years before the other one would find it sitting on his bed, waiting for him. It was a running joke that was was half booby-prize and half real sentiment and they each loved and hated it in kind.
