In this novel, a group of British colonists travel through India, in the aftermath of the rebellion of 1857, in a wheeled house pulled by a steam-powered mechanical elephant.

Illustrations drawn by Léon Benett and engraved by Stéphane Pannemaker for Robur-le-Conquérant a.k.a. The Clipper of the Clouds by Jules Verne.  Verne’s name is strongly associated with airships today, though only one of the more than sixty novels he wrote features such vessels.

However in The Carpathian Castle the theme isn’t vampires and magic, but technology.
