So I did in fact finish the first book of the dungeon crawler Carl series andā¦. Dammit. I kinda hate how entertaining it was. Do I think itās a literary masterpiece? No. Some of the humor got a little old but all in all I had fun reading it.
Needless to say I have purchased the second book lmao

Imagine how young Betsy Dobson gets a job as a nurse in the obstetrics department, with no open vacancies in her field. In the third month of her work, a woman is brought to them in the middle of the night. Pregnant with twins, it is still too early for the birth, but the twins come early, it is normal. The labor is rapid, the woman constantly screams that she hates it and wants to die and that they all go to hell, but in the maternity ward this is not news. When the mother puts the children to her chest she says that she wants to give them up.
Not a single look at the children, no joy in her eyes or a smile.
Betsy wanted to cry. Betsy helped with the paperwork, Tilda named her boys Aaron and Andrew. The twins held hands in the crib from the moment they were put together. Betsy helped dress Aaron, because they were born a little early, the baby clothes were too big for the twins.
A week later, Tilda returned. She chose a tag at random and decided to take one of the children. Aaron. Betsy and the other nurses tried to convince her that this was a mistake, that twins cannot be separated, it is literally worse than if she had left them both in the orphanage. But Tilda went home with Aaron, and Andrew cried for days after that.
Betsy adopted Andrew when he was 1 year old, months of paperwork and here she is, the mum of a wonderful boy, he smiles when he is picked up, has a favorite toy in the carousel on the crib and has a good appetite. Betsy is incredibly hurt by the thought of his twin. She constantly wonders if she could keep them together, if she could keep them both or convince their mother to take them both.
(10 years later, she works as a child psychologist in the adoption system and meets a copy of her son, his mother died of an overdose. So Betsy Dobson becomes the mother of twins. They constantly argue and several times Andrew says that she is only his mother, not theirs, but things go better and the twins become as inseparable as in the first days after birth)

heād be cursed to always have the shittiest assignments too. theyād give him all the most combative pts because he wouldnāt bat an eye at it. between growing up calming tilda down + taking care of her and navigating andrewās issues, i donāt think anything would faze him anymore.
heād walk in a minute before his shift starts with a monster in hand, looking dead to the world. heās like. fuck huddle. fuck anything that isnāt getting handoff and jumping straight into passing meds.
i think heād give really concise, clear reports ā the type of nurse that the next shift is happy to be following because he gets his shit done. all his patients are cleaned up, meds done, charting finished, orders ironed out and followed through on. heād be Organized.
HEAD SO FULL ABOUT THIS CONCEPT, thank you
Absolutely heās so unbothered by pretty much everything. The question is what would be the thing that gets himā his ick if you will. I vote sputum. Unfazed by all other bodily functions except that one.
Emphasis on fuck huddle and getting there early he doesnāt care whatās in the chart until he lays eyes on his patients first
Hard agree that heād be so organized and getting his shit done.
The other question is would he be nights or daysā I vote nights bc I donāt like heād mix well with management
WAS LITERALLY DEBATING IF HEāD BE NIGHTS OR DAYS AND WAS LEANING NIGHTS. night shift is so much more relaxed. at some point, i think theres a chance heād go to days to align his schedule with his partnerās (but he hates it and eventually swaps back to nights lmao)
No bc suddenly 1500 people need to talk to him and his phone is constantly ringing, and all his patients are awake and everyone wants an update and heās been yelled at 3 different family members of one patient and his manager is passively aggressively reprimanding him for not updating the patient white board and all 4 of his patients call lights just went off at the same and itās so bright on the unit heās pretty sure heās in hell. It has to be. He lasts 2 weeks.
Also the thought of him telling Nicky and Andrew (and Neil) about his day (or night rather) makes me giggleā talking about the massive blowout code brown he had to clean up at dinner and not realizing everyone around him stopped eating
a special kind of rage lives in me for managements silliness ei like updating whiteboards nonsense. he would actually want to kill his floor manager. theyd get on his ass too about not coming to huddle
he would talk about work and the others would be like āwhy do you keep working as a nurse if you hate it so muchā
and heād pause and be like āno, you donāt understand. i love it.ā and then proceed to tell them how important bedside nursing is and how its his calling and he couldnt imagine spending his life any other way . and theyd all just look at him like āā. LMAO
i just think nursing would fulfill him in a way nothing else ever could šāāļø
absolutely!!!
And heās had some shit days and some days where heās like thatās it Iām quitting (not really tho he clocks in the next day lmao) but at the end of the day he loves it. He loves to watch his patients get better in real time and being apart of their care, and trying to make their already sucky time a little less sucky.
I also think heād like all the different routes you can take with nursing and the ability to change specialities/units of you want to. I think heād like that freedom of choice with it and the challenge of learning a new speciality šāāļøšāāļø
