It’s crazy and fucked up that being yourself is actually the solution.
It’s like. When I was told to “just be yourself” as a kid I thought it was a passive thing. Like oh easy I just have to sit here and be myself. but the reason so many people think that “being yourself” is bullshit advice is because you actually have to make active choices to do this and it WILL make your life way more fun. You have to wear t-shirts of bands that were popular ten years ago because you like them. You have to do your hair in a way that you find cute or comfortable even if it’s “so nineties”. If your friend says a food you enjoy is gross to them, you can’t be afraid to admit you casually disagree. You have to do hobbies that you’re interested in even if you’re bad at them and you cant feel like you have to get good at something before you tell people it’s an activity you do. You have to read manga and comic books in public and get piercings your relatives think are unattractive. You don’t have to tell people you dislike that you dislike them, but you don’t have to give them your time and attention either. You have to rewatch that kids show you’re nostalgic for even if you’re in your 30s. You have to change your name if you hate it, even if only a few close friends can know. You have to get fun girly drinks at the bar. You have to order hot chocolate when you don’t like coffee and black coffee when you don’t like sweet things. I am still bad at practicing this but it is the only way to make it all tolerable.

asking for help might be the bravest thing you do today. it takes more courage than struggling alone
had an overwhelmingly stressful day today and decided to call my mom to cry. i feel better now. we were never meant to struggle alone
last night I talked to my body. and I mean really, talked to my body. I apologised for everything I put it through when I was younger, and I promised not to do that again. but more importantly, I thanked it. I thanked it for getting me through every one of my hard days, for resisting my attempts to destroy it, for telling me what it needs. for being able to touch and hug and feel. and I cried. but I have never felt closer, and more at peace. maybe it’s time to have a chat. see if it helps.
Again, this hits different now.
Reading this for the first time a couple of years back was, to me, just a gentle reminder to be thankful in general.
Reading it now, after seeing my life change in ways I have never imagined, was deeply moving. It resonated differently because I have been so mean to my body the past two years. I hated it because of what pregnancy did to it. But after suffering a debilitating head and tummy ache after dieting so much, I realized how strong my body is! I became grateful for how much it did for me. It took me to different continents. It saw me during my darkest days. It gave birth to two boys normally. Most importantly, it sheltered my soul. And it’s still here protecting me! I feel bad for harming it and wanting to change it drastically.
I love my body!

You don't have to force yourself to bounce back so quickly. I read something recently that said "when you come in from a rainstorm, you don't expect yourself to be dry and warm right away", and it really resonated with me. It's okay to take time to dry off and warm up. Take the time you need to process what happened to you.
TW: weightloss
Reading this now hits different. I used to hate my body after pregnancy. I did everything to get rid of the extra unwanted weight. I tried a lot of shit that damaged my gut to the point I would throw up involuntarily. My headaches were severe, and I felt like dying. That’s when it hit me. I was rushing my body’s healing. Instead of thanking it for everything it’s done for me, I destroyed and punished it for changing so much. Now I’m telling it to take the time it needs to process what happened <3
