I will say as a great enjoyer of the Cis Hetero Romance Novel that if anywhere on the cover the author is described as writing good dirty talk you are inevitably going to run into a sex scene where the dude starts spouting off some shit like "I'm going to put my hard dong in your cute little pussy and freak it sensitive style"

to be clear many romances struggle with bad sex dialogue but there is a direct correlation between an author being specifically praised for it and the likelihood that what she's actually writing is "I can't wait to eat your tight hole like a bag of airplane pretzels"

If you find you're bored of the folk punk you always listen to, try out a rap album. If you only ever watch classic cinema or more grounded art films, check out a fast and furious movie or something. Or try reading a book if you only ever consume film or tv. Or comics. Or go to an art museum. You may not like whatever it is you try out, and I promise you don't have to like it, but I can guarantee that you can't subsist on a monoculture. Be open to experiencing new art. Even if it's bad. Especially if it's bad, actually.

A conversation I don’t think yall are ready for yet is that you can love a character sooooo much and relate to them and see yourself in them but at the end of the day they’re still fake and that’s why someone else’s take on them or headcanon about them isn’t a direct message about you or insult to your identity. If your identity is so wrapped up in a character that you can’t distinguish between reality and fiction, then you are the problem. Not some random person online who interprets the character differently than you.

this also goes for when you hate a character soooooo much and relate them to every person who hurt you and see everyone you hate in them, at the end of the day they're still fake and someone else's love for them is not a commentary on your trauma
