I just uploaded a new video: Re: "Racist?" - Erasing Race
Article 13 has been approved by EU. It’s worse than Net Neutrality has ever been. I don’t even know if we will have any access to Tumblr, Pinterest, Ao3 or even Instagram. Memes are probably dead, just like reactions, fanfictions and gifsets. Everyone in EU is in danger that they will not have access to their favorite sites. But I haven’t seen a SINGLE post about it on my dash because Americans doesn’t give a damn.
Also, I’m in Europe and ngl, had no idea this was even an article up for debate let alone it being fucking passed.
Don’t panic! This was expected at this stage and it is only the beginning. If you are a European and feel passionate about this, please keep on reading and help!
So what has happened so far … the Commission has drafted up a long overdue copyright reform. https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 It contains a lot of good, and some bad: mainly Article 11 and 13.
This was put forward as a whole to the European Parlament, where it was voted down on the 5th of July 2018
This meant, this will not go through the fast way, and will be subject to scrutiny and change.
The Commission made some alterations https://eur-lex.europa.eu/procedure/EN/2016_280 and put it forward again. If Parlament would have voted it down again, it probably would have meant back to the drawing board, but most people (including me) agree that Europe does need copyright reform, so on the second vote it passed the first step:
So what happens now?
This will now go into what is called the Trilogue, where Commission, Parlament and representatives of all national governments will sit together to make alterations until everybody is happy implementing the regulation.
This means we can now influence this via our MEPs and our National Government!
In countries that are red your government is likely to support Article 13.
What to do now?
There are a lot of organisations that organise actions against article 13. Check out their websites and get in touch with your MEP or local government and let them know you are unhappy about this.
https://www.saveyourinternet.eu/
https://epicenter.works/
https://www.changecopyright.org/
https://juliareda.eu/eu-copyright-reform/
… and many many more, just google to find one in your country.
Also, as @asthesea-breezehitsmylungs pointed out, a lot of people are not aware of this going on. So make them aware! Share the memes and point them to the petitions. And don’t just complain how shit this is, get in touch with your politicians!
Oh good.
Yo, everyone, EU or not, please at least signal boost this shit. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: those two articles will suck majorly for all of us.
Like dude, how much time do you spend enjoying various things that relate to, Idk, your favourite show or book series. It’ll probs be gone. Funny memes and shit? Nah our generation doesn’t fucking need to laugh, it’s not like half of us are already depressed or anything. And so many other things that are cool about the internet, I’m not even gonna mention how some big, cool places like YouTube and Tumblr will be fucked by this.
So seriously, there’s only so much a small bunch of people can do. We need some noise on this. As much as I hate to admit it, some things require some fat numbres to be paid attention to. So even if you’re not planning on taking any action yourself, the best thing to do would be to spread this to everyone you trust to either get involved or pay it forward like you did.
And seriously, every little thing helps, ok? We should have a say in how the laws that deeply affect us are made.
SIGNAL BOOST
@winsister91 @kittenofdoomage
I’m not european whats article 13?
well, i might not be the best person to be asked this, i suck at explaining things like this lol. Here’s a -i hope not a shitty- explanation:
Article 13 is a copyright law, where the internet will be censored for all countries under the EU. If that happens, it’s likely bloggers from affected countries cannot post content anymore. We wouldn’t be able to post gifs, edits, icons, video edits, fanfiction, anything anymore. Memes and vines are in danger too! Even adding links to posts could cost money.
This will monitor everything we do on the internet. Tumblr won’t be the only site affected. Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites. Others say it could also affect start-ups and forums who aren’t able to pay for those filters and might have to close down.
I mean, this is hella lot worse than that Net Neutrality.
Here’s the original clusterfuck // #2
And here’s a full list of all affected things.
Share posts about article 13 while you can!!! We stopped net neutrality when it was going down in the US,now us Europeans need help!! It’s not over. The final vote (yes, because they need to vote on this crap three times apparently) is in 2019. Even after the votes, every country needs to implement their own version of the law. Keep fighting!
“We stopped net neutrality” rofl... net neutrality was a good thing, what people were trying to do was prevent the rules keeping it neutral from being lifted. Which, fact check, failed... In reality, the fighting continues as individual states in some cases work to preserve the neutrality o ISPs within their borders. It’s also being monitored and argued and fought over a lot still. It’s very unfortunate that eventually companies got their way the second time around, and seems to have happened in part due to political partisanship and a reframing of the issue. HOPEFULLY Europe can be better about this than us, especially since this is, sincerely, far worse than the neutrality issue here. Companies being able to prioritize some traffic can be bad, but everywhere stopping all instances of copyrighted material being spread (even when it’s done in a legally protected way!) is far worse, and I suspect will hit everyone not even just those in Europe at the end of the day. The Internet, after all, is worldwide. Anything that drastically changes it for one area is either going to start (or continue) segregating it or impact all of us.
I want to be really clear about something: Planned Parenthood has done more to prevent abortion than the pro-life movement ever has.
Yup, preventing abortion by giving abortions. Makes sense!
No you fucking crusty nutsack giving people the education and the tools to not become pregnant in the first fucking place
One of my Christian friends made a Facebook post about how PP gave her tons of resources when she was trying to get pregnant and people were actually genuinely shocked that they provided such resources; they had fully bought into the idea that PP is just an “abortion factory”. The misinformation that’s been spread about PP is unreal.
gosh it’s almost like Planned Parenthood will help you plan for parenthood
This thread is amazing, but it’s hilarious seeing some of the notes on it. I guess a random “ethical atheist” I never met is going to block me for not agreeing that planned parenthood is an “abortion facility.” That’s cool. I like nuance, myself, so I doubt me and that person have much in common...
Underlined PSA
Figment, the recently closed writing website, has just launched (after a long delay) their long-awaited successor to figment known as Underlined, where users can post their work and receive feedback, supposedly.
DO NOT USE UNDERLINED. DO NOT POST YOUR WORK ON UNDERLINED.
Underlined’s terms and conditions contains a clause stating that the rights to all your work that you post on their website belongs to them!!!!
Underlined belongs to Penguin Random House. This is an extremely dirty trick for them to play on writers, especially young writers and children, who come to the internet to get feedback and will lose the rights to their work. Please boost!!!
For my writing friends looking for an online writing community, DO NOT USE Underlined.
I went to confirm @greater-than-the-sword‘s post, because seriously publishers are still pulling this garbage? And yes, they are. If you want to check out the full terms and conditions, have at it. They are full of writers’ nightmares, a few of which I’ll highlight under the cut.
Be aware guys
As someone who used to use Figment, I would really strongly recommend NOT using Underlined. DO NOT USE Underlined.
FACT CHECK: Not what their terms say now, whether it was then or not. Where that claim is explicitly excludes user submissions, and further down it says this: User Submissions remain the intellectual property of the user and you retain all ownership rights in your User Submissions. The terms do require you grant them rights, including the right to make deriviative works, but include those being revokable and strictly on the site.

I just uploaded a new video: MIRROR: Article 13 Again (via Bad Tempered Badger)
this is the future liberals want
“This is the future liberals want” But...but... Tumblr is the SJW social media platform. Antis can’t exist here. They’d be silenced and blocked and deplatformed and stuff... Cause that’s the good end of what SJWs do...
Seriously, though. It doesn’t really matter, and if you’re worried about a future where people agree it doesn’t matter, well, sucks for you. If you’re worried we all want to have people disrupt parties to reiterate how much it doesn’t matter...well, I haven’t met many who want that myself. It’s just a silly stereotype that seems to come as much from people’s imagination as reality.

Feinstein: You’re a big, powerful man. Why didn’t you [gestures pushing motion]?
Crews: Senator, as a black man in America [sigh]…
Feinstein: Say it as it is. I think it’s important.
Crews: …you only have a few shots at success. You only have a few chances to make yourself a viable member of the community. I’m from Flint, Michigan. I have seen many many young black men who were provoked into violence, and they were imprisoned, or they were killed, and they’re not here. My wife for years prepared me. She said, “If you ever get goaded, if you ever get prodded, if you ever have anyone try to push you into any kind of situation, don’t do it. Don’t be violent.” And she trained me. I’ll be honest with you it was the strength of my wife who trained me and told me, “If this situation happens, let’s leave.” And the training worked because I did not go into my first reaction, I grabbed her hand, we left, but the next day I went right to the agency. I have texts, I have phone conversations, and I said, “This is unacceptable!” And I told them how -you know- I almost got violent, but I didn’t. And I said, “What are you going to do about this predator that you have roaming your hallways?” And -you know- I was told, “We are going to do everything in our power. We are going to handle this Terry. You’re right. It is unacceptable.” And then they disappeared. Nothing happened.
Look at the faces of the black men behind him it says it all.
This is real fucking infuriating. This shit isn’t funny. Fuck them and anyone who makes fun of Terry Crews speaking out and taking a stand.
for those who don’t know the context, this is Terry Crews testifying about being sexually assaulted by Adam Venit during a Senate hearing about a proposed bill called the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights. While I don’t like that Senator Feinstein said what she said, I think it opened the door for a great statement from Terry about WHY he didn’t fight back - since so many people respond to male victims with “oh well you’re bigger than your rapist, why didn’t you push him or her off of you? why didn’t you punch him or her? did you want it or something?” And they don’t listen. Maybe finally people will listen.
This shows that anyone can be a victim of sexual assault, even a tall, strong, hulking guy like Terry Crews. And I hope him coming forward with his accusations convinces other victims to realize that it being a victim isn’t something to be ashamed of and to take down their attackers, and push the justice system to FINALLY take male rape and assault seriously.
I think she asked him the question precisely for that
I just looked at her Twitter and she stated (well, implied haha) that yes you’re right, that was indeed why she phrased her question the way she did.
Yeah, Dianne Feinstein is someone who has never backed down on this issue. She wanted to give Terry Crews the space to answer the question in a way that I think he’s tried to answer in other forums but has been unable to do. She wasn’t trying to minimize his experience as a male victim of sexual assault; she was trying to give him the opening to explain that, no, it’s just not possible to fight back when someone in a position of power threatens you. That’s a reality that is frightening for every woman, but as man conditioned to believe that passivity is weakness? I can’t even imagine the emotional and psychological trauma Terry suffered on top of the actual fact of the assault and all that went with it.
But this isn’t Dianne Feinstein’s story, which is why she said the second part of her statement (”Say it as it is.”). Terry Crews needed the opportunity to tell Congress and the world that sexual assault is not a problem confined to one gender, one race, one body type. It’s something that can happen to anyone, and fighting back is not always the option. He was forced to endure and to remain silent because otherwise, every door in Hollywood would have been shut to him.
Now he can speak out. Now he can be an agent of change. And I am so proud that he did make the decision to speak out, because he’s not the stereotypical victim. He’s living proof that this social ill affects all of us.
President Trump had blocked critics from his @realDonaldTrump account. But a ruling in May said that his account is "a public forum" and that his followers enjoy First Amendment guarantees.
President Trump can no longer block followers on his Twitter account based on their political views.
This is a good use of time and money, White House. You’re not occupied by a childish idiot at all.
Actually, it’s a rather important thing to consider in the long run. Is it as important right now as countless other things? No. But ruling using a block button on social media is violating someone’s freedom of speech has some far-reaching implications both legally (for any government official on any level, and possibly even government employees in general) and for the general discussions about freedom of speech (where it can now be cited by people whining that others don’t care about free speech because they block someone - anyone, no matter what the reason - and that’s been seen as silencing them when it’s really not).

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.
On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.
Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.
But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.
What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.
Here you can find more news and all the details to contact your MEP:
https://saveyourinternet.eu
Also, sign and share this petition:

We have just a couple of weeks to stop this complete madness, don’t let them dictating the way we enjoy our internet.
#SaveYourInternet now!
It’s funny how y'all will reblog any and all US things but when whole Europe might lose access to internet then everything is quiet.
I’m a US citizen so there’s only one thing I can do for y’all. Reblogging for my European friends!
