I first want to start this answer by saying I respect every ship and everyone's right to ship whatever they like regardless of my personal taste. Nevertheless, I have my own opinion and if it's not positive towards some specific ship, please do understand that's MY view and opinion, and no one is forced to think or see the things the way I do.

Having say that, I personally dislike NejiTen. I would say I'm indifferent towards it, and I am most of the time, I mean, it doesn't upset me if I find occasionally some NejiTen art by accident while watching something else, and I don't find it a hideous ship. Furthermore, I personally have never had bad experiences with NejiTen shippers either, though I've known and/or seen some of them harassing my friends from NejiHina and other ships, and there is exactly where the "dislike" part starts. Because, indeed, the persons that I've seen doing such comments act as if NejiTen was canon, when it isn't, furthermore, there is, at least at my eyes, no evidence of any kind that even hints Neji's romantic interest on Tenten and viceversa.

Going to the content, Neji is only seen worrying and caring profoundly for Hinata (when it comes to women), no one else. If we add RLSD, his crush on her is totally accepted and obvious on that, but it's just a Spin-off.

When about Tenten, I'd say we see almost equal care and worry from her to both Neji and Lee, except, maybe for Lee's energetic (and problematic) nature, she tends to spend more time closer to him. And maybe because of Lee's life story, she also seems to be more observant of Lee's feelings than Neji's. Even when Neji died, her reaction was to console Lee, her thoughts went to Lee, she was worried because of Lee. I'm not saying she didn't care for Neji or that she wasn't hurt, but her feelings for Lee on that moment (worry, sad, caring) were bigger than her mourning for Neji.

I think it is so popular because the fact that Neji and Hinata are cousins is taboo in many places around the world, although actually it is perfectly legal in more countries than those were it isn't, it was common practice amongst noble families both on West and East until not that long ago, still are many cousin marriages and the genetic/biological risk for the possible future children of such a couple isn't as big as we might believe. Is about double than non-related couples, but that equals 3-4%. That's about the same risk an "older" (35+) woman's baby would have. Anyway, the thing is since Hinata is by this Taboo "forbidden" for Neji, most people would try to pair him with the other woman he interacts with: Tenten. That is, the way I see it, the only reason to pair them. I don't even think they'd had an interesting dynamic and on the few content of them I've paid attention to, usually Neji's or Tenten's or both's personalities are changed so they fit and the ship becomes more interesting.

I think it takes from both of them to pair them together, it is nice to see Tenten as an independent woman who's life, for once, doesn't revolve around her crush on a boy.

And Neji seems a traditional tranquil man, if he wasn't so focused on and devoted to Hinata I don't think we would matter about marrying or being on a couple. That's why I can't see him with anyone else but Hinata.

NejiHina Week 2022 Day 1: Marriage

Oneshot, canonverse

"I’ve been thinking..."

Neji blinked and turned his head towards Hinata. "What is it?" He tightened the scarf around his neck and added, "Do you need something?"

Hinata kicked some of the snow with her boots and walked a little bit slower. She ducked her head, feeling embarrassed. "We never hold hands."

"No?" Neji slowed his pace to keep walking beside her. He reached for Hinata’s hand and held it. "Now we have."

Hinata’s laugh was always wonderful.

"You only do this because I asked you to." She swung both of their hands forward. Backward. "I feel silly, for wanting such things."

Neji chuckled and tightened his grip on her gloved hands. "It’s okay, you’re young after all."

"Excuse me, sir!" Appalled, Hinata raised her voice a little and halted their walk. She placed herself in front of Neji and pulled her hand to cross her arms on her chest. "You know damn well that you’re only a year older than me! Don’t scold me like I’m a child." She uncrossed her arms and held Neji’s hand again, continuing their walk. "So rude."

"Language, young lady."

"You’re not getting away with this when we get home."

"What could you even do, dearest?" Neji went full on laughing when he saw Hinata puffing her cheeks while looking away from him. He pulled their joined hands toward himself to keep her closer. "I’m sorry, I shouldn’t tease you."

Hinata creased her eyebrows and searched for Neji’s eyes. "Do you think holding hands is silly?"

They almost reached the gate of the compound. Neji tightened his grip and said, "Not necessarily, no." He released her hand to open the gate. "I always want to hold your hands."

Walking in the direction of their home, Hinata reached for Neji’s hand again. "Why didn’t you do it then?" Neji didn’t answer at first. They arrived in front of their house and stopped walking.

"It seemed improper." Neji finally said, he retrieved the keys from his coat pocket and unlocked the front door. "Even though we’re married, I feel like I’m being judged."

Hinata pushed open the door and they walked inside. Neji turned on the light while Hinata took her gloves and boots off. She turned her head and looked at Neji with a faraway stare. "I’m sorry." she said. She unbuttoned her coat, yanked her scarf in frustration, and added, "The elders should've just kept their mouths shut and kept their heads down." She shrugged off her coat, helped Neji with his, and hung both of theirs on the rack. "My mother used to hold my hand when I was very little, she stopped doing it after grandfather accused her of spoiling me. They're so unreasonable!" Hinata muffled her scream into Neji's coat, then quickly regained herself.

Neji smiled at her. "Seeing you angry is such a rare thing." He raised an eyebrow in mirth. "Is the baby making you antsy?"

"I keep having mood swings, it's annoying." Hinata took a deep breath, gently unraveled Neji’s scarf and took off his gloves. "Your hands are cold."

"And yours so warm. Do have a fever?" Concerned, Neji reached for Hinata’s forehead. Her temperature was normal.

"My hands are always too warm." Hinata giggled when she felt Neji’s ice cold hand on her face. She murmured, "Everyone commented on it, they also thought I had a fever or something."

"Everyone?" Neji stared at Hinata for a moment, feeling suspicious.

"Only Kurenai-sensei and my teammates." She laughed seeing Neji's unsettled expression. "Calm down, it’s not like I let random people hold my hand."

Hinata let go of his hands, put on slippers, and headed inside. She went straight to their kitchen, filled the kettle with water, and put it on the stove. Neji took off his boots, he contemplated. "You did let him hold your hand."

Looking at Neji from across the room, Hinata asked lightly, "Who?"

"You know who I meant."

"No, I don’t know this person you mentioned. Maybe my memory is fading." Jokingly, Hinata tapped her fingers on her chin like she was trying to remember. "Must be someone unimportant."

Neji smiled in amusement and didn’t push the topic, he walked towards her after he put on his own slippers. The kettle whistled and Hinata took it off the stove. She prepared two mugs and filled them both with chocolate powder, two teaspoons each. She then reached for brown sugar on the top cabinet, put four teaspoons of sugar in her mug and one teaspoon in Neji’s mug. He eyed their mugs and commented, "Probably put two teaspoons in mine, this new chocolate powder is a bit more bitter than the one we used before."

Hinata put two teaspoons on Neji’s mug and playfully said, "You want your chocolate to be sweet but not your matcha?"

"Sugar in matcha is an abomination."

"Well, sugar is nice in a matcha milk tea. Of course, we don’t add sugar to high quality matcha." Hinata poured hot water into both of their mugs, stirred them, and poured milk to fill them up. "Kiba told me that I’m such a snob when it comes to tea."

"He’s not wrong." Neji chuckled when Hinata gave him a glare. "We Hyuuga care about our tea. It’s not just you. Tenten also called me a tea snob."

Hinata hummed with satisfaction and handed him his mug. They sipped their chocolate slowly in comfortable silence. Leaning on the kitchen counter, they stood together for a while, embracing the warmth of each other's company.

"You know, I still feel cold." Hinata washed both their mugs, dried them, and put them in the cabinet. She headed towards their room. "I should turn on the heater there."

Following her, Neji asked, "Do you want to take a nap for a bit?"

Hinata opened the door, turned her head so she could look at Neji from over her shoulder and gave him a slight smile. "Do you want to do something else? Some exercise perhaps?" Hinata was blushing a little when she added, "It could warm me up faster."

Neji raised an eyebrow and returned her smile with a smirk. "I don’t want to assume." Neji joined her, they both went inside and he shut the door. "But if you’re suggesting what I think you’re suggesting, then I won't decline." He creased his eyebrows in concern. "Is it safe though?"

Hinata turned on the heater in the corner of the room. She slid off her slippers and climbed to her side of the bed. "I find it odd that we already had sex but never properly held each other's hands before." Hinata commented while rearranging her pillows. She laid down carefully, making sure that her neck was supported. "Yeah, it's fine. I'm still early in pregnancy." She turned to hug their bed comforter and sighed, "But I don't know, a nap also sounds good."

"Excuse me, my lady." Neji imitated the way Hinata said it before during their walk. Hinata laughed at his tone. "You can’t suggest things and then take them back. It’s not fair." Neji huffed his words like he was actually irritated. Hinata knew better though. He wouldn’t force her to do anything. Neji had been very gentle with her since they got married.

"I’m sorry." Hinata giggled, she gestured with her hand, "Come here." Neji took off his slippers and climbed to his part of the bed. He reached to hold Hinata’s face, so she raised from her lying position. She slowly removed his headband to reveal his seal, then kissed him gently on his forehead. Neji closed his eyes and Hinata proceeded to kiss his eyelids, one at a time. She kissed the tip of his nose, his cheeks, then pulled back. Slowly, Neji’s eyes opened.

"Why did you stop?"

Hinata giggled again and said, "It’s your turn. Don’t let me do all the work, I’m the lady here."

"Of course." Neji leaned forward and kissed her lips. "How could I forget?"

They just kept kissing for the longest time. Each time, they went deeper and deeper. Neji pushed Hinata gently so she could lay down and he positioned himself on top of her.

Neji was pulling away for a breath when Hinata started to remove her sweater and wool leggings. She sighed, "It’s still really cold." Hinata struggled with her under armor, it was trickier to remove than the rest of her clothes. She grunted, "I can’t reach the back zipper."

"Let me help you with that." Sitting up, Neji reached for her back to undo the zipper.

"Gods! Why are your hands still freezing?"

Neji stopped for a moment, his hands accidentally touched Hinata’s stomach while he was trying to lift up her under armor. Some of the tension on his shoulders melted away.

"I’m really sorry, dearest. Are my hands bothering you? Do you want me to remove them?" In good humor, Neji pulled away his hands and folded his arms across his chest. "You seemed perfectly fine when I held your face earlier."

Hinata laughed a bit and rubbed the spot where Neji’s hands touched her skin. She huffed, "My stomach is more sensitive to cold than my face." She gently unfolded his arms and engulfed his hands in hers, warming them with her feverish hands. She waited a while until they started to feel warmer and placed his hands back on her stomach. She then caressed her thumbs on the length of his wrist.

Neji looked at her, an apologetic smile forming on his face. "I didn’t realize, I should've been more careful."

"It's okay. Don’t worry about your hands, I can keep them warm for you." Hinata tilted her head towards her legs and lightly said, "Your fingers especially, if you go down."

Neji removed her armor and placed his hands under Hinata's knees to raise her legs. He smirked and sarcastically remarked, "Such a kind lady you are."

"Oh, shush," Hinata said, rolling her eyes. "If you’re aware, I’m very bare right now. And cold!" She started to blush very hard and murmured, "Now fuck me, please."

Neji slid off her remaining undergarment, placed her right leg on his shoulder, and said, "Language, my lady."
