i am always so astounded at c!tommy coming back from exile. c!dream destroyed him mentally and physically. he was not the same person anymore. c!tommy is fucking strong for the exile tower moment not because he built it and immediately realized what dream was doing was wrong and that he was being abused, but because he struggled so much, still didn’t really trust himself, was terrified of what he was doing, and still chose to live. his speech is not one of a self-righteous hero or self-assured leader — it’s that of a hurting kid who has no idea what to do. the build up is slow and all over the place, with him constantly doubting himself, “dream, my only friend, what did he do for me? we’d hang out and laugh and he — he took my things. then we’d laugh some more! and then — and then he’d take my things and throw them in a hole.” and then he’s reminiscing, trying to be positive, and he says, “dream said he’d come every week to come and watch me!” and there’s a moment where he hears himself and he frowns and he’s like, “come and watch me?” and still he says, “no he’s my friend, he was coming to make sure i’m okay.” then finally, finally: “no, he was literally just here to watch me. he wasn’t here to be my friend. he said it.” and then he decides to live. it’s messy and confusing and not perfect, but it’s brave and so human; it’s so real. something something you don’t have to be the hero that slays the beast! you can just be human, in all your messy and fucked up glory, and that can be the enough — you are still enough. what an incredible act of courage.
