He had 5 years of processing losing his best friends. He never mourned them, not once during the 3 hours of Endgame. He didn’t fight beside them in the final battle, he didn’t stand beside them at Tony’s funeral. He gave a half-hearted goodbye to Bucky, and didn’t even bother to say goodbye to Sam. He lived the rest of his life without them and came back pretending everything was fine when in reality they are strangers to him.

He didn’t give two shits about the people in his present life and yet he gave up everything for a woman he never dated, a woman he knew off and on for about 4 years. He prioritized his relationship with her over the relationships he had with people he knew twice as long.

It’s the heteronormativity and the ableism! 

Remember this exchange between Krzeminski and Sousa?

“You sweet on her, Sousa?”

“Don’t you have enough women in your life to worry about?”

“Alright, let me give you a nickel’s worth of free advice, pal. Give it up, no girl’s gonna trade in a red, white and blue shield for an aluminum crutch.”

Remember how she didn’t trade the shield for a crutch because you can’t replace people with other people, but instead, she moved on and fell in love again despite Daniel’s disability because our value isn’t tied to how many good limbs we have? 

I’m sure someone’s said this before me but like

THE WHOLE REASON why steve became captain america in the first place was because he wasn’t content with staying safe in Brooklyn while other men went to war. in his own words “men are laying down their lives I got no right to do any less than them”

it’s fun to make jokes about how steve is “always angry/picking fights/will fight anything that moves” and sometimes they’re funny but idk a lot of people misunderstand WHY he fights. the U.S. had the privilege of saying “this doesn’t affect us, we’ll sit it out” but steve was determined to fight and tried enlisting five times because in this situation that’s the right thing to do. (the whole reason why jack kirby and joe simon made captain america comics)

the reason why endgame was basically character assassination was because it completely contradicts this about his character!!! it’s a core characteristic!!!! you’re telling me he CHOSE to live through 70+ years of injustices, KNOWING that he COULD help but he’s not allowed to interfere, and he was happy about it? he was perfectly fine with watching tragedies unfold and doing nothing???? if steve were that kind of man he wouldn’t have gotten the serum in the first place. he would’ve lived a normal life in brooklyn the end.

the endgame elevator scene pisses me off too because it’s clearly framed as like character development. because steve learned you dont always have to fight! outsmart nazis by making them think you’re a nazi! yeah thats SUCH a great message. god dont get me started on the way the mcu handled hydra

anyway lots of people STILL think it’s a generational divide, that boomers are all racist, homophobic, bigoted,etc. and millennials are all progressive but the only reason why things are better now was because someone back then fought for those rights. (and even though things are better that doesn’t mean the fight is over) the reason why a higher percentage of older people are bigoted is because the others who werent fucking died. steve is supposed to represent that fight. he just wasn’t there because he missed 70 years in the ice. endgame effectively says “steve WAS there and he chose not to fight. he said this doesnt affect me so I’ll sit it out. he’s not on your side”

steve deserved to retire and he should’ve in the future with the rest of the survivors. it would’ve been a message of healing, moving on, rebuilding. but apparently thats too gay! marvel really said they would rather destroy steve’s entire character than leave even the smallest possibility that he’s Not Straight
