What is a silly but helpful tip you have for studying, organising, etc? :-)
if you're an auditory learner like me, listening to your classmates/friends talking about the material before the exam started is quite helpful :D
Non native English speaker things
Teacher: And, how did you learn English?
Me, internally: Tumblr, AO3, FF, Vinesโฆ
Me: Uhhh, I like to read random stuff, comics and books in English. *Sweats*
Teacher: Good. *Continues explaining to my classmates how they can learn English*
Me: *breathes* Man, that was close.
[If there is any mistake, you can correct me by a message <3]
(That was creepy, I never use hearts)
Hello! Iโm relatively new to the studyblr community. Funnily enough, I made this studyblr awhile back, but I didnโtย โconnectโ with it as seen by my lack of activity and presence in the community. So, with this new and revamped studyblr, I hope I can make new friends and immerse myself in all that this community has to offer.
Letโs get started!
About Me:
I go by the pen name,ย โsuiโ.ย
Iโm 18 years old, residing in land of the maple leaf (i.e. Canada).ย
Iโm trilingul in English, French, and Urdu.ย
I will be attending University in the fall
Iโm too ambitious when it comes to any of my interests, so itโs hard for me to have a distinction between a regular hobby and my passions as they blend together more often than not. (Slytherin through and through)
Interests:
I love reading and writing! If you have any recommendations regardless of the genre, definitely tell me!ย
I love watching anime, dramas and movies. Few of my favourite animes are Death Parade, Kill la Kill, Boku no Hero Academia, Free!, Yuri!!! On Ice, Death Note. Dramas include Doctors, Goblin: The Lonely and Great God, The Negotiator, Doctor Who, Sherlock and The Office.ย
I love listening to music, especially when it comes to finding new artists or familiarizing myself with a genre. As of now, Iโve been listening to a lot k-pop, pop, rock and lofi hip-hop. I would love some recs, especially in regards to R&B and Hip-Hop (my genres of interest as iโm kinda unfamiliar with these two)
Iโm trying to learn how to play the piano (beginner!). I want to improve my playing, reading and composition. If any of you have suggestions or tips, please send them my way!
Iโm definitely interested in learning more languages!ย
I love drawing and painting. I hope to improve and transition to digitial art at one point.
What to expect:
As of now, I want to begin reblogging other studyblrs and their posts. However, this doesnโt mean I wonโt be posting my own original content. My studyblr is going to be a mixture of studying but also me (think of it as a combination of studying with all my interests)
Expect a lot of advice, so donโt feel shy if you want to ask me something!ย
Who inspired me as a studyblr:ย
Follow them as I wouldnโt be who I am without these people!ย
@studyblr
@pianoandstudy
@tbhstudying
@studyign
@warmhealer
@thomastudies
@piiess
@emmastudies
@studyquill
@stillstudies
Reblog or like if youโre a studyblr, so I can follow you!ย
Thatโs all for now! Nice to meet you!
How can I study without sacrifice and blood?
Yes, weโve all been there, where we thought maybe sacrificing some blood to the deities will help me pass this grade?. Fear not, for there is a cure for your problem!
1) When youโre lucky and you got time
Lets say, you have three months to prepare yourself to face the wrath of finals, hereโs what you should do:
Month One : Make notes
Scan the textbooks for any potential information which you think is important, take help from teachers or friends if you need to.ย
They do help. you can utilize multiple resources for ready made notes as well.ย
For the whole month, make as many notes as you can - ensuring that you have covered every tiny spec of information in.ย
Organize all papers and notes (including digital ones - also include ones you took in class even though theyโre mere scribbles) neatly as you approach month two.
Month Two : Learning
Now this is the most difficult part - actual studying.
Refer to your notes thousands of times, rewrite them and revise them however you want to.
This is also the time when you use those highlighters you brought on impulse, just know how to do it correctly.
Read your textbooks thoroughly, chapter by chapter - better yet paragraphs by paragraphs.
Write down keywords on flashcards (i recommend Quizlet) even though hey are not vocabulary related, just donโt forget these terms!
Make cheat sheets as if you will be using them for finals, cram in as much information as you can.
Revise notes, memorize those sentences which are italicized or highlighted in bold in your textbook by heart.
Rote learning isnโt the best option, but when youโre desperate you gotta rely on that.
Take this time to solve all doubts either with teachers or by using he internet - like, have you used khan academy?
By the end of this month you must have thorough knowledge about your syllabus in detail.
Month Three : Practice
Now that you are ready with the basic idea of what your textbook is all about, itโs time to put that knowledge into use.
Start solving practice papers, worksheets or any other test material you can grab onto.ย
There are certain books specially printed for providing potential question papers for an exam, invest in them you wonโt regret it.
You can ask your teacher for some important questions, and if you have been a good student so far sheโll gladly help.
Once you know you have solved about millions of papers, make your own question papers.
Try to figure out what is important from a teacherโs point of view, and learn accordingly.
Voila - now you are 100% prepared for finals, walk into the exam hall like a boss and ย leave like a boss!
2) When you fall short on time and finals are freaking close!
Okay, so you didnโt utilize those three months efficiently and now you are in deep shit, do not panic because you still can manage to do it.
Make a study schedule - a realistic one which you are pretty sure you will follow.
Go to your phone - settings - turn off notifications, trust me you will love me for suggesting that later.
Be prepared for all-nighters, gather snacks ( I donโt care if they are healthy or not - you canโt be perfect all the time), all study material and all resources.
Make the library your home for the time being.
Youโre lucky if you got social skills, take help from that smart friend you managed to make six months ago.
If you are a bit shy (like yours truly), remember - teachers are your best friends!
Now you donโt have time to make notes, so use whatever you have at hand.
Start solving papers and as you go with the test clear your doubts simultaneously.
It helps to have a guide around when you re solving papers, they will help you out instantly.
Classify your textbook into two sections : damn important and semi important, go through that damn important parts first and when you are confident you can handle them move onto the semi important portion.
Make the most of each day, which means bidding farewell to Netflix and comfortable blankets and the sweet, sweet sleep, but make sure you make up for all the sleep in the form of short naps.
Even then if you canโt, skip some parts - what you can certainly not understand despite efforts, let it go.
Now you are prepared for finals, hopefully without tears and blood.
3) Some more advice.
Because it helped me.
If you have a bullet journal, try to maintain a study journal - note the amount of hours you study per session, the subject and topic you covered and whether you completely understood it or not.
If you cannot maintain the aesthetics, donโt - just write what you understand.
Teaching the material to your pet or a doll or a teddy bear helps a lot.
Speaking out loud when studying will help better memorization.
Take help from your mom (or anybody who stays with you 24 x 7 at home) when making your study schedule - she will point out the times which you can use productively better than you.
Stop looking forย โHow to study efficientlyโ guides on the internet, because you wonโt realize when you wasted three hours trying to learn the basics of studying.
For motivation, come straight to Tumblr because this site is a storehouse of studyinspo, follow (Iโm sure you already do) some cool studyblrs like @studyignย ย
ย ย @grangergrades
@tbhstudying
@studyquill
@emmastudies
@elkstudies
And so many more which I canโt think of at the moment, they are all very sweet and will help if you reach out.
ย I hope this guide helped, please reblog to save a student and feel free to ask me for more tips!

German: Words for Stuff
โStuffโ is such a great concept - so of course, German has several awesome words for it. Obviously these are colloquial since the expressionย โstuffโ isnโt exactly the peak of formality. I love all these words so much, I canโt even tell you.ย
I tried to rank theseย from least to most pejorative, but many of the expressions have very little difference in meaning and usage (plus there may be regional differences).ย
das Zeug (no plural), n. - can also meanย โabilityโ (das Zeug zu etwas haben), but is the most common expression forย โstuffโ. Can also be found in many compounds like Flugzeug (plane) and Fahrzeug (vehicle). Also occurs asย โdas Zeugsโ if it stands on its own. Pretty neutral.ย
die Sachen (no sg. in this sense, otherwise die Sache), f. -ย โthingsโ, as inย โget your things and letโs go!โ. Also neutral.ย
der Kram (no pl.), m. - a mix of different unspecified things that constituteย โstuffโ. If it consists of a variety of small items that for example could fit in a drawer and are not in any order or tidied up, you could call itย โder Krimskramsโ (m.).ย
der Krempel (no pl.), m. - is up here because itโs more commonly used than the following ones, but mostly means the same. Since itโs more common, it has lost its edge and isnโt as pejorative anymore, I would say.ย
der Klumpatsch (no pl.), m. - pejorative, but kind of in a cute way. Also implies that the stuff isnโt worth anything but it sounds so cute that it makes up for it.ย
der Plunder (no pl.), m. - either a delicious type of cake or an array of useless stuff.ย
der Firlefanz (no pl.), m. - also useless stuff, but can be used in the sense that it makes things more complicated or unnecessarily luxurious for your needs, e.g. too many decorations in a house.
der Klimbim (no pl.), m. - very similar to Firlefanz.ย
der Schnickschnack (no pl.), m. - also very similar, but most commonly used for unnecessary decorative items or acts perceived as too elaborate, e.g. many steps/speeches/rituals in a ceremony that donโt add anything to it.ย
der Schamott (no pl.), m. - pejorative, and implying that the stuff isnโt worth a lot and unimportant, or even trash. one of my favourites.
der Ramsch (no pl.), m. - worthless stuff no one needs or wants, ever.ย
der Schrott (no pl.), m. - literally junk. (der Schrottplatz = junkyard.)
fellow germans, if you can think of more, please let me know!! :)ย
So I used to have a Russian friend who had a pretty thick accent and like a lot of Russians tended to eschew articles. She would say things like โGet in car.โ And stuff.
Well one day this asshole who had been kind of tagging along with us asks her why she talks like that because it makes her sound dumb and I still remember her response word for word.
โMe? Dumb? Maybe in America you have to say get in THE car because you are so stupid that people might just get in random car, but in Russia we donโt need to say that. We just fucking know because we are not stupid.โ
One time I was proof reading a paper for a Russian student. As I was correcting her paper with her, the many mistakes in her grammar started weighing on her. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, almost sobbing,
โIn Russian I am so intelligent and clear. In English I am like [an] idiotโ
Respect to anyone trying to master a foreign language. I get so sad thinking about that student.
Full offense but people who make fun of someone elseโs accent or belittle their limited vocabulary when theyโre speaking a language not native to them are fucking disgusting and are just begging to be punched.
Theyโre speaking your language because you donโt know theirs. Thatโs not something they should be made fun of, itโs something that should be commended because learning a language is hard fucking work.
I hate people who do this so much.

So, Iโm back from my year abroad in England now and Iโll use my insights to tell you about what I packed, what was useful, and what I really couldโve left at home. just fyi: I stayed in dorms (single ensuite) and meals were provided. your needs might be different so i wonโt claim that this is the ultimate solution to all packing problems, but it might help!ย
STUFF TO PACKย
jeans/trousers, shirts, sweatshirts
all the underwear and socks you can find (or youโll spend your days doing laundry)
a scarf, fluffy socks
pyjamas (or shirts/shorts for sleeping)
small umbrella (the foldable ones are great)
laptop, phone, chargers, camera etc. (i invested in a DSLR and didnโt regret it - if you enjoy photography it might be worth it!)
memory cards
winter boots and jackets, waterproof clothing
bedding (if you need it), duvet covers, pillow cases
sports clothes
sunglasses, normal glasses if you need them
any medicine you wonโt be able to get abroad, removable braces etcย
STUFF NOT TO PACK
office supplies like paper, notepads, folders, tons of stationery
books (you wonโt read them, take one or two if you really want to)
books for university (there are libraries and many are online)
tons of makeup, sunscreen
clothes that you can only wear in one specific combination
food
decorations, frames, photo albums, merch (takes up a lot of space that can be put to better use)
a lot of money in a currency you donโt need there
hangers, hooks, any other small/cheap bits that you can just as well buy there
big bottles of shampoo and shower gel
candles
SOME TIPS:
take as little paper as you can. scan any important documents like confirmation of insurance, your passport/ID, confirmation of study etc so you have a virtual copy.
take precautions for if your baggage gets lost (mine did twice). have all important documents and enough cash on your person at all times.
you will accumulate so much stuff during your year! i still donโt know where it all came from. take as little as possible with you so you have more space for new stuff when you get back.
send parcels, itโs often cheaper than paying excess baggage fees and you donโt have to deal with carrying a lot of stuff. itโs especially great for winter coats and boots, or bedding.
if you havenโt already, find out how to establish a VPN connection with your home university so you can use their online resources abroad as well.
trust me when i say that you shouldnโt take books. i love books, i took over fifty with me, i didnโt read any of them.
