send 🌱 and i'll talk about my muses family tree! || ACCEPTING
@gwiazdowe asked: 🌱 !
Braig’s biological family is… Interesting. That’s the best word for it. On his father’s side, he has two half siblings. Sort of. There’s his older brother, Karvan Nel. This is Braig’s only ‘actual’ biological sibling, in the traditional sense. He was born before Eadric and Shiv met. The result of a one-night stand at a bar while Eadric was stationed off-world; he doesn’t even know Karvan exists. Karvan, for his merit, also has no idea who his father is. He doesn’t really care, either. He’s gotten on just fine without the guy. He’ll keep getting on without him, too.
Braig and Karvan have met once before, mostly by chance. The verdict is they don’t like each other, and have no idea they’re related. Karvan is… Kind of a slime ball, to be honest. Karvan lives in the Outer Rim. He’s been there his whole life, and doesn’t know anything different. That’s part of why he’s so resentful to Braig when they meet - Braig grew up on Coruscant, in the Jedi Temple. Karvan took one look at him and thought he was some spoiled core world brat. Never worked a day in his life.Braig, for his part, thought Karvan was a sleemo. The fact that Karvan tried and failed to sell Braig for spice didn't help that image. (It was a bad first meeting.) Karvan used to be a part of a spice-running gang. Not one of the big ones, mind, but they made money. Karvan ends up married with three kids (a son and two daughters), gets a better job. He’s still kinda sleazy, but he moves up in the world and becomes a foreman of a ship yard. His kids are fed and clothed (which is a lot in the Outer Rim), he supports them and his partner, and they’re happy enough.
Then there’s Braig’s other…. Brother. Brean Claermoore. They’re not really siblings, even in the ‘half’ sense. Brean is a clone of Eadric, Braig and Karvan’s father. This is ironic, because Eadric hates clones. He HATES them. He has his ‘reasons’ for this, but, yeah. He hates them all. He had Brean made so he would have a successor, so the family fortune doesn’t go to his sister. Yeah, there’s a lot of drama on that side of the family. Brean and Braig don’t know each other. Braig doesn’t know he has any siblings at all, but he definitely doesn’t know about Brean. For Brean, he doesn’t know Braig, like I said. He doesn’t know Braig is his family. He does know that Braig exists, and this, like a lot of things, is their father’s fault. Through a convoluted series of events I talked about before, Brean thinks Braig killed ‘his’, as in Brean’s, mother. Brean doesn’t have a mother. Brean also doesn’t know that he’s a clone. It’s a long story. Not a fun story, mind, just a long one. (Braig still doesn’t know that Brean exists, let alone that they’re related. He doesn’t even know he’s related to Eadric. He doesn’t particularly care, either - he knows who his family is.)
He has an aunt and cousins on that side, too. He doesn’t know them, either. I don’t want to go too in depth, because this would get too long and nobody would read it, so if you want to know more about them, send me another family ask. Instead, let’s do a quick rundown of his mom’s side of the family. They’re the exact opposite of his father’s side. Whereas his father’s side is Core World as far back as you can trace, his mother’s side came from all over. Where his father’s side is - as far as they know - strictly human, his mother’s side cared a lot less (this is why Braig’s eye teeth are sharper than normal). His father’s side was rich, his mother’s not so much. So on and so forth. Braig doesn’t know them, either. And again, he doesn’t care to. Shiv wishes she could know him. I’ve been over this one before. He has a LOT of cousins on this side - no half siblings, though. Shiv decided she was done with all of that after the trauma that followed Braig’s birth.
It’s also important to note that not all the cousins on this side are biological. His maternal grandparents had more than a few adopted children. In a way, they had a very Jedi-like mentality - family is who you make of it, and if you can help somebody, you should. Braig would have gotten along with them well.
Shiv, Braig’s mother, was a doctor for the Republic’s navy. That’s how she and Eadric met. (Sometimes, she’ll say he was different back then. Others, she says she never actually knew him. It’s a back and forth.) Following a series of events (that were rather unfortunate), she defected to the CIS. She stays there as a medic until Operation: Knightfall. Seeing what the Empire did to the Jedi - to her son - drove her to the Outer Rim. She was done with all of it. She stayed quiet for a while, then eventually joined up with the Rebellion (informally). She worked as a medic for them again before eventually passing away quietly on some little, largely ignored planet.
Of course, as I said a few times, Braig doesn’t know any of them (except for Brean later in life, and neither of them know they’re related. Braig also kills Brean, but that’s besides the point.)
If you ask Braig, though, he thinks the Jedi are his family. He doesn’t really care about biology or anything like that; they’re his brothers, sisters, siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles…
He doesn’t need anyone else.
… Except, you know, the countless tag-alongs he’s decided are ALSO his family over the course of his adventures.

“You’re welcome.” Voice comes out gruff, but not cold — there is a warmth there beneath the seemingly grumpy exterior. In Echo’s time away from Skako Minor and Torrent, he had grown beyond the ARC he’d once been. Still an ARC trooper, but advanced beyond the Echo that Braig had known — he had emerged from the chamber a different man… yet, his heart remained true to who Echo always was. Frustrated with what the galaxy is becoming, Echo shows little reluctance to join the fight. He can hear Fives’ voice in his memories, his lack of presence shoving Echo forward into the march to battle — my blood is boiling for a fight. Kamino is gone … home is where his brothers are. This includes the Jedi at his side, running through the halls of Imperial prison. A familiar face is a life not yet lost. And a prisoner freed from a cage is more than he can say he hoped for.
When it comes to prisons, Echo has to inwardly admit that this one is as bland as the next and lacks the terror-inducing equipment his returning memory often conjures up at night. Still, for a Jedi, this place is as horrific as Skako Minor and if Echo had the time to sweep every hall and check every cell, he could free all who were locked here. But, the mission is clear and though he cannot rescue them all, he knows he can free their furious cries for freedom. “I don’t know who else they’ve captured, but they won’t be far behind,” he informs, backplate pressing against the wall as he checks his blaster. And though he wears his bucket, the curling smirk can be heard in his words. “Your door wasn’t the only one I opened.”
The alarms are blaring and the sounds of patrolling steps become ever louder. His gaze drifts from his blaster to the Jedi beside him. There’s a semblance of normalcy in fighting alongside Braig — he’s been here before. This time, however, he has different brothers with him. Ones that, to his knowledge, have never had a solid plan in their entire lives. “We won’t have to hold them off long. You know how Wrecker is,” he says, tone carrying mild annoyance, “He’ll be upset we got to do all the skull-knocking.” He leans to the side, casting a glance around the corner, watching the white walls mesh with TK armor — that bland, unpainted, rinsed of individuality armor. Bucket nods to Braig and DC-17 is lifted, scomp braced against the wall as he shifts plated boots. The Maurader was just beyond those blast doors. “You think you remember ? You’d be surprised… I’ve learned some new tricks.”
Voice carries a mischievous tone and before approaching trooper can even think, Echo is moving. Scomp swings outward, colliding with the exposed neck between odd bucket and collar, leg lifting to plant boot against the chest with a hard kick. Blaster extends with surviving hand, photon bolts streaking down the hall towards thunderous march of the storm just ahead. “I’ve got your back, Commander ! Head for the doors !”
Even as he manoeuvred the chaos, Braig’s eyebrows raised.
“Did you open every cell-?” He asked, ducking under a bolt. It’s half incredulous, half exasperated. He’s not really surprised. He already knows the answer. Of course they did. It definitely suited the Batch’s M.O. And it was a good plan! … In theory. It would certainly cause a distraction. A parry. Ducks low. It did make the Force almost debilitatingly noisy, though. Saber through plasteel. The thud of a body. A rush of Force to move another. If he hadn’t grown up in a war, it would make it hard to focus. Thankfully, he hadn’t known peace since he was young. (A strange thing to be grateful for.) Another bolt dodged. Another, another.
It’s a dance, really. Memorised footwork, swirls of colour, moving in time to the rhythm. That’s how Booda described it. She was right. There was a logic to it. A flow to each battle.. One the storm troopers didn’t understand. They’re clunky. Uncoordinated. Amateurish. Cheap imitations of the clones before them. That’s why they were so easy to take down. But they were still alive. That’s why it was so difficult to kill them. Every life, even theirs, resonated in the Force. He felt every single one. But they’d made their choice. This was war. They had made their choice. He had to make his.
There’s a rumbling in the universe. It’s a warning. A rasp against his skin. It’s like thunder. Another bolt flies past his head. The blade of his saber arcs, descends. The trooper’s arm falls to the floor. Their head follows after. Their companion goes more quickly. Simple. Right through the heart. Clean, fast. Cold, dark. Hungry. Always hungry.
“Well, I’m glad you’ve stayed on your toes!” He tosses back. He could tell without being told. Echo didn’t miss a step. He’s as fast and graceful as he’s ever been. A little colder, maybe, a little heavier, but still Echo. That’s good. He couldn’t ask for a better soldier to rescue him. (Not since Cody was–) A body falls beside him. Another one of Echo’s would-be assailants. At least, for now, things were going their way.
Focus. The doors. Head for the doors. He could do that. He just hoped that the doors would be unlocked when he got there. (Please, please be unlocked. The time in the prison had done more on him than he’d like to admit. He was tired. Yes, yes, a tired Jedi is still worth a hundred storm troopers, but still!)
“Any time now would be lovely!” He called over his shoulder. He didn’t have time to wonder if his voice could be heard over the alarm. Another trooper down. Another life lost. So, so many more on the way. He grit his teeth.
Things were going to get bad.
“Not to sound ungrateful!”

gwiazdowe:
His Fingers tighten their grip on Braig’s clothes.
“Th- t h e y were right–” His voice breaks between the sobs. “You didn’t look for me– you didn’t even lo o k—” The anger rises in his chest, again, hurt, bitter, aching, it fizzles out into tears rolling down his cheeks. With sobs and gasps and pathetic illegible noises he’s unable to swallow.
Not unlike bleeding out from a large wound. He cannot stop it. He cannot will it shut.
𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒈'𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒚𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓? 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒚𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒚𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒔 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌. 𝑾𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕—
Still,
No one ever told him sorry, and it means everything, It means so much.
“W h y….. Why couldn’t you– come faster.” Cirz utters into Braig’s arms, why why why, why did it become like this. He is suddenly very aware of the hand on his head (not the right angle to tug him and snap his neck, so he lets it be. It’s so warm, and as it trails down his back he becomes momentarily annoyed by how his armor dulls the feeling) “I wasn’t dead, I was– ” He sniffles. “The force is so cruel ‘Raig! I will fight it– I promise you– if it takes you again.”
“I will hunt you down too, if you’re lying.” It’s a promise. He’s never once broken a promise. Braig has never once lied to him.
His forehead presses against Braig’s shoulder, just wishing to latch on to the warmth. Long. Longer.
Eventually even his sobs become quiet. Breaths become softer, tired, pause at times like beginning of a sentence that struggles out.
“— I…” He swallows. “I missed you too…..”
It's freezing. The Force writhed and screamed and scraped at the universe around them. It shakes with each one of Cirz’ sobs. Oh, it hurt, it hurt, how it hurt. It’s raw. That’s the best word for it. Raw and agonising. It just hurts. He breathes, slow and even, as he holds his young friend. He hadn't been able to be there for Cirz before.
He could be there now.
"I'm sorry." He said again. It didn't feel like enough. It might never feel like enough. It wouldn’t undo what had been done. It wouldn’t erase the scars. But he would say it anyway, again and again and again if he had to. (And, if the Force was any indication, if how tightly Cirz held onto him was any hint, he would have to.) He doesn’t move away. He doesn’t even consider it.
“I’ll be here for you now. I promise. I know it sounds like a lie, but I’m not going anywhere.” He tightens his own grip. It's a struggle to keep his own emotions at bay. He’d been so scared. He’d been so angry. He’d been so lost. And he still was, if he was being honest with himself. It was a harder pain to let go of than any he’d experienced before. A steady, throbbing ache that clung onto his very essence. It was only amplified by Cirz’s pain, but he couldn’t let it overwhelm them.
After a while, he lets out a breath, loosening his shoulders.
“I promise.” He says again. And then he carefully steps back, keeping his hands on Cirz’ shoulders. He opted not to mention the wet spots that stained the shoulder of his shirt. He was sure his eyes were misty, as well.
“Now, I think we’ve been out here long enough. I don’t know about you, but - I’m not exactly a fan of being out in the open anymore.” He glanced around, frowning slightly.
“I imagine you feel the same.”
