frank castle.
Frank didnât know what he was expecting. Karen had always been hard to predict, had always been tough for him to figure out. Heâd thought maybe, maybe she felt something similar to what he did. That pull. Maybe heâd been wrong. Maybe he really was as far gone as people said, unable to really read the people around him, unable to connect. Itâs what everyone else seemed to think. Maybe Frank was the one guy who just didnât get it.Â
He didnât see the apology coming, didnât expect the excuses. (You donât hear the bullet that gets you, heâd told Murdock once, and he hadnât quite believed it himself but this felt like a shot to the gut and Frank hadnât seen it coming, not for a second.)
âYeah,â he said quietly, keeping the disappointment from his tone. Karen, she didnât deserve any of that. She deserved to be happy, and Frank shouldâve known that wasnât really an option with him. Happiness hadnât been in his cards for a while. âItâs okay. Nothingâs weird, donât worry.âÂ
He looked at the wall, inspecting his work for a moment and gathering himself before turning back to Karen. âYou, uh⌠Youâll wanna let that sit for a while. Try not to get anymore bullets in it.â
â  good.  thatâs...  thanks.  for understanding.  â  thereâs no resistance between the two.  theyâd, for a brief moment in time,  been a  m a y b e.   AN ALMOST.  and just like that,  it had passed.  karen wouldnât allow  (  couldnât bare  )  dwelling on what was before.  friends.  sheâd be his friend,  for as long as fate would allow.  hopefully,  she can make this be enough.
she shifts blue eyes to the wall,  nods her head appreciatively.  tries to find the rhythm that friends speak in.  â  no promises.  being a journalist lately seems more risky than having the name bond  --  james bond.  BUT,  hey,  it looks a whole bunch better than whatever i did to it.  celebratory order food  ??  â
