every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. i’m so tired.

go yell at mark carney or your own local politicians about climate change and urge them to do more to stop it. the namaygoosisagagun first nation had their community destroyed today. you can find a link to donate to them here. donate to your local food bank. go to the beach next week when the smoke clears and you don’t have to think about it anymore while the people who’s lives have been destroyed will have to pick up the pieces and try to move forward when we are already in a huge cost of living crisis across the country.

I got my heart examined with an intravenous catheter yesterday. For as harrowing as an experience as it was (surgeons saying shit like "Hang on, we aren't supposed to be in the aorta again," getting a shitton of skipped beats whenever they move the wire across your valves) the actual level of pain involved was really low. I didn't even get a cool scar or anything! The incision was like .5mm long and healed within less than a day. I feel ripped off, I should be entitled to at least a couple centimeters worth of badass scar after that

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

I drew this a while back as a potential tattoo design when I found out I was getting open heart surgery. It's supposed to be a Pinatubo Volcano Mouse. I don't think I'm actually gonna get a tattoo, though? Even in extremes I'm kind of a buttoned down and noncommittal guy.

Backrooms Opinions (Spoilers):

Overall: Better at being a horror movie than The Oldest View, but kind of worse at making its point. The backrooms themselves and Mary's side of the story seems like it's saying something about how cutting yourself off from the past isn't how humans are supposed to operate and nostalgia is both a dangerous and necessary impulse but then like. Clark's flaws seem mostly separate from that. He's just a dick.

There's 3 scenes of people freaking out about the door and each time it's like 2 minutes long. I feel like they should've cut the last 2 to give time to other parts of the story that sorely needed development -Clark's obsession with the backrooms, mostly. The horror elements were pretty good though. I liked the freaky furniture people a lot! It was effective body horror that managed to thread the needle between genuinely threatening and unsettling while maintaining the overall "inertness" of the backrooms. I also think they taste like the inside of a Mounds bar. Cap'n Clark specifically kinda broke from the rest of the furniture people crew a bit, presumably because the Backrooms had some sorta psychic imprint of how Clark sucks shit and warped that into being a literal murderer. There's no real answers given but I think it'd be funny if the only reason Cap'n Clark started cannibalized Clark (regular clark) was because he saw Regular Clark eating people and went "Oh, me too!" WHAT IS WITH THE FUCKING CAVEMAN WITH THE VOYAGER RECORD? I understand that it's supposed to be bait, but like. Why a caveman. Why voyager. What's the connection to the THEME? I'm a certified voyager record fan- I think it's one of the most beautiful things humanity ever produced and I'm being serious- But it's a weird thing to try to attract monsters with. My best guess is that the cavemen were made for a potential first-contact scenario and were just sorta repurposed when they realized the backrooms were scary as fuck but that's a dissatisfying answer for something that's begging for a symbolic interpretation. I also kinda liked the ending, which was an almost wistful slideshow of a bunch of backrooms copying earlier parts of the movie. For better or for worse, everything that happens winds up in the backrooms, none of it's lost forever. Very sweet up to the point you see Furniture Person Mary and realize the emphasis is on "or for worse."
