however, through him, the thoughts and worldview of some people who grew up and socialized in a sterile religious environment were unrealistically qualitatively conveyed (clearly, the huevers largely hushed up the sub-topic with near-catholicism, modestly providing crumbs of hints in the story and character design).

another one female! kanrai but young and according purely to my headcanons. as i said earlier, kanrai ushirono is unironically a woman in my head. love her.

i don't really understand why haru is called more masculine and aki is called feminine (in terms of behaviour)

yeah sure his physical appearance closer to classic masculine but

look at him

girlfailure vibes + he's a literal housewife both in zeno remake and zeno daily life true endings + a real man from our world who experience such deep emotions and be able to analyze society so well from the point of view of cognitive empathy is a VERY rare case and it's not masculine at all in traditional masculinity context (usually, toxic masculinity and a desire to compensate for what they've experienced make them incredibly aggressive, dominant assholes) + his behavior is extremely helpful, comfortable, and convenient due to his trauma + he's emotionally passive and obsessive as fuck at the same time and the main theme of his lore is romantical love

AND I HAVE NOT YET MENTIONED THE MOST WEIRD THOUGHT.

UNLIKE AKI, HARU SUBCONSCIOUSLY DESIRES TO CONSUME EVEN WHILE IN REMISSION, WHICH IS MUCH CLOSER TO MONSTROUS FEMININITY IN ITS ESSENCE THAN TO CLASSICAL VIOLENCE MORE OFTEN COMMITTED BY MEN (there are not so many cannibals among criminals in general, and it often happens that they act in tandem with women who do help them hide not simply out of fear + women eat the meat themselves and sometimes even goad their partners in crime)

and AND

haru's motive is an obsessive, all-consuming love. he doesn't want to destroy the object of his affection; he wants to merge with it, to make it a literal part of himself forever.

I MEAN.... this is a VERY twisted and fucked up version of the feminine-coded ideal of unconditional, all-accepting love and unity. look at the myth of demeter and persephone, the vagina dentata, the image of dysfunctional, «devouring mother» or simply the lover who says «i love you so much i could eat you up»—and literally means it (dostoevsky, bataille, crane and a bunch of other authors writed about this feeling!!)

haru doesn't really want to kill aki. he wants to keep him. permanently. internally. a love so absolute it cannot tolerate separation, only union.

tldr idk for me haru is more female-coded than aki who's literally positions himself as his protector/mentor, is much more active, aggresive and drives the whole action almost everytime xD (plus haru literally supports him through most of the game events by verbally comforting aki, insisting that they should continue).

and this is not a devaluation of the zenin sisters' arc, i say right away. it's just that everything is much more transparent with those who are "weak": contempt, ostracism, humiliation, bullying, open discrimination, rejection, etc.

but here the situation is different — a woman has to be reckoned with, since she is institutionally irreplaceable, but ideologically impossible. her strength simply does not fit into expectations, as power is a purely masculine feature in traditional circles. in combination with conventionally beautiful appearance and "unfeminine" (i don't like a radical changes in the character's personality if it's genderbend. it just doesn't work that way) habits... well, she's the biggest dissonance. and she is even less likely to be understood or accepted by others due to the demonization of women who do not fit into gender expectations, "frightening"/"strange"/"too autonomous".

random headcanons about maeno🍓

• hemophobia

based on his reaction while partially amnesic (disgust, mild fear), i assume that aki's primary emotional response was something he struggled with long and hard, even as a medical student. the fear hasn't gone away, but he's managed to train himself to abstract for the sake of effectively performing his work duties;

• teeth

aki is canonically a sweet tooth and a domestic cripple, periodically forgetting his own needs. he has numerous fillings, which are usually not replaced until they literally crack: his high sensitivity makes visiting the dentist an extremely anxious and undesirable event;

• socializing

he looks like a literal social butterfly. thanks to his combination of intelligence and good looks, maeno has easily made a dozen superficial connections at work. he's up to date on most gossip, events, etc.

sadly, he still hasn't managed to make any real friends after the tragedy with the ushirono twins;

• carelessness

familiar, "unprofessional" behavior is a coping mechanism. it not only relieves his brain, which is otherwise occupied with overanalysis and paranoid scenarios, but also slightly distracts from loneliness (same with alcohol and sweets, btw!);

• academic performance

maeno procrastinated profusely during his student years, and then calmly passed everything, which greatly irritated fuyu and some of his classmates;

• the ushirono family

formally, aki had guardians in the form of distant relatives who were practically uninterested in his upbringing or well-being beyond the basic minimum (they were much more attracted to the real estate the boy inherited from his deceased parents). in fact, it wasn't just fuyu who was keeping an eye on him, but also kanrai, who had already begun to see traits of his late friend in the child.

although extracting such a complex structure from a corpse is clearly not a quick process, bloody and requiring a large supply of cursed energy, kenjaku has time on his side. on average, the decomposition process begins 1-2 days after death. + it is much easier to use rct to restore damaged muscles, bones and organs.

p.s. i have no professional knowledge in neurobiology/neurosurgery. formulated this headcanon based purely on scientific articles from google + asking knowledgeable friends and acquaintances. you can point out any mistakes if you notice them.

the curses that geto absorbs are textured like a cross between raw flesh and extremely finely ground offal — streaked with cartilage, tiny bones and blood vessels, as if someone had worked hard to turn the insides into a smooth, mushy mass.

those that don't have a full-fledged shell — viscous, wet, translucent, too small or simply underdeveloped — have a different consistency: slimy, like expired jelly, with a rough, granular coating closer to the core.

the taste is always the same — sweetish, with a slight whiff of rot. the same one that had barely begun to spread through the tissues of the corpse, but had already filled the nostrils and lungs.
