a few of you lovely folks have been embarrassed about liking Ken and putting yourselves down, thinking a gorgeous doll like him could never be interested in you. my sweet stranger, i’m here to tell you that Ken would absolutely adore you!! here are some thoughts to that effect 😉
🐴 Ken is fascinated by your human body. in Barbieland, every Barbie and Ken of any shape or size is moulded to perfection: even with variances, you will never find a human detail without a purpose, like a stray hair, a scar, or a freckle. that’s why when Ken meets you, he can’t keep his eyes off you…you’re just so new and striking. at first it’s with a puppy-like intrigue that he sneaks glances at your beautiful body, absorbed by the spaces where your skin is patchy or uneven and the bags under your eyes. but as you grow closer, and you permit him to touch you, Ken can see more of the ways in which every part of your body is unique…and he covets you for it. he loves to squeeze you, to feel the fleshy parts where your body curves and dips, and to trace the little bumps on your skin. “I feel like the luckiest guy in the world,” Ken breathes, as he cups your too-warm cheek. he looks at you the way most men look at the stars.
🐴 your fashion sense is a world apart from the clean-cut styles popular in Barbieland, and this makes Ken ecstatic. whether you dress sporty or goth, cutesy or plain, high-effort or cosy, Ken has never seen any doll wear those clothes as well as you do. “You’re so…different,” he remarks, saying the word ‘different’ as if it means ‘amazing’. in fact, Ken is so taken with the way you dress that he soon starts emulating your style…and matching your clothes. it’s quite a shock for you the first time he shows up in an outfit identical to yours—how did he even find one in his size so fast?—but the proud smile on his face sends you into fits of giggles. you tell Ken that he doesn’t need to dress like you for you to like him, and this makes his face scrunch up in adorable confusion. “But how will I show you how cool you look?” he asks. after some consideration, you tell Ken it’s okay—but he has to pick outfits for the two of you as well. Ken is so overwhelmed with this new responsibility that he swoops you up into his arms and gives you a bone-crushing, plasticky hug that makes you gasp for air.
🐴 on days where you are feeling your worst, Ken is your biggest cheerleader. there’s no use trying to hide under the covers from this man; Ken’s a cuddler, and he’ll find any way possible to snuggle beneath your layers of blankets and nestle up to you, his strong arms locking around your waist and his breath hot against your neck. “You are the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen,” Ken admits, as he absently strokes your thigh. you turn to him, ready to rebuff the compliment as obvious nonsense, but then you look into his eyes and see those baby-blues shining in earnest. you tell him, a little weakly, that you don’t feel that way. you tell Ken that he could have any person he wants…that he should go and find someone perfect, like him. but Ken chuckles, low in his throat, and presses his nose against yours. “But I already have that, silly,” he whispers. “I have you.”
