does anyone else have like, an almost pathological avoidance of media that you think you’d like? i keep finding myself either consuming whatever i already know or things I know will be mediocre because i just. don’t have the time or energy to get really into something new

like “oh god this looks like it was literally made for me. if i engage with this, it’ll take me two weeks to recover. better not”

I have to carefully avoid stuff I'll like too much until I'm ready to take a long enough break from my own writing because if I get too into someone else's work I will NOT produce anything valuable until I'm done with it.

I do really think that the use of ChatGPT and genAI by students highlights the fundamental flaw of our education system focusing almost entirely on grades and test scores rather than generating curiosity and inquiry, which produces individuals who fundamentally do not understand that the purpose of an assignment is meant to be to learn *how* to do something, not simply to produce a product you can turn in to get an A+
