fishuary day 23
I’d love it if you could do flashlight fish!! They’re my favorite fish & don’t get nearly enough rep imo
Indian Ocean Friday~ Flashlight Fish .° 。𖦹˚ 𓆝 。𖦹°‧
Indian Ocean Friday is here!!!! The creature of the day is the flashlight fish, since it has been requested. There are multiple species so I went with one that lives in the Indian Ocean 💙
Scientific name: Photoblepharon steinitzi
Status: Least concern
Class: Actinopterygii
Population: N/A
Lifespan: 2-3 years in captivity
Have they been on Octonauts?: No
This species of flashlight fish can be found in the West Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea, near coral reefs. They are nocturnal, and will hide in caves and crevices during the day at around 500m, before coming out during the night for food, rising to 20-3m below the surface. They have bioluminescent organs underneath their eyes the emit a blue-green light, which can be used for finding prey and deterring predators. When they want to, they have lids that can be slid over these organs to cover them up. Another notable feature is the line of reflective scales that runs along the fishes side. Flashlight fish are usually 11cm in length.
Mermay Day 19: Bioluminescent 💡
This is not the picture I intended to make for this prompt, but I found myself drawn to the creature that strikes such terror in me. It’s based on the flashlight fish. My least favorite fish, it appears with huge, angry glowing eyes which are actually patches of bioluminescent bacteria on its cheeks. But in the dark, the fish bodies do not appear, only their twitching, frantically-moving eyes. I decided to transform the erratic fish into a graceful mermaid as a way to face my irrational fear of them.
This drawing took a very long time due to the complicated design and method of coloring. I’m surprised at how well it turned out.

Shop gallery quality Art Prints by Aldrich Hezekiah.
Heya, if you're looking for something to hang up on the wall next to your fossils, or bouquet of flowers, Crinoids might be a good fit 😉
I finally got to setup a shop in @inprnt, a lot of my other artworks are also available.
This is a...

[Image ID: a gif of a feather star, which is a type of crinoid, swimming in the ocean. While juvenile crinoids are attached to the sea floor by a stalk, adult feather stars like this one swim freely. It is comprised of multiple feather-like rays or arms radiating from a central body. The arms are white with black stripes and appear to be arranged in rows, which undulate separately to propel the feather star. Its central body cannot be seen inside the many undulating arms. Its appearance and movement are reminiscent of a "bibically accurate angel." End ID.]
Cradifly, the Feather Star Pokémon!
Type: Ghost/Flying
Evolves from Carbohsian Lileep
Finally breaking away from the ocean floor, Cradiflies move in the water by paddling their feathery appendages. To traverse the oceans faster, Cradiflies have shed most of their armor in favor of a rigid skin that partially covers their mouths and makes them more aquadynamic.

today's invertebrate................ophiomaza cacaotica
she's very very rich. so rich infact that she was able to write a biography of her whole life ten times! and each time it made millions of dollars because she kept buying it and selling it over and over until the concept of money meant nothing at all!
but how was she able to make all of this money????? by climbing on crinoids and telling them that a great calamity is coming that can only be stopped if they give her enough money to prevent it from happening of course
