People are asking about the no gloves:
Beekeeping gloves are bulky! Itβs difficult to be delicate with them on, which is a problem. When youβre moving bees, the goal is to Not Smash Any, because a smashed bee becomes an ALERT beacon to the rest of the bees, who become alarmed and may start stinging.
If the bees are relatively calm, many keepers (myself included) prefer going gloveless so we can be precise and delicate to avoid smushing anyone!
Beekeepers all have preferences when it comes to safety gear that varies depending on the job theyβre doing! I personally like to be more suited up if Iβm going to move/mess with a queen, but to each their own.
That all said, no gloves, although not always adviseable, isnβt actually as scary as it seems! π
