So obviously we're all focused more on Saheon's reactions to Soleum, since his attitude change is blatant and marvelous to witness, meanwhile Soleum is acting so oblivious you'd think nothing changed there.

But Soleum has changed his tune towards Saheon, too. And in a very positive light.

So here's my analysis with chapter by chapter text.

Hey all! First off, we want to thank everyone for sending in asks when the ask box is open! It's so encouraging to see how many of you have deeply connected to The Freak Circus and want to express that in a positive way for both the fandom as well as Neko. It's a shame that all asks cannot be answered (as we regularly get around five to six hundred at a time) but we appreciate the love all the same!

That being said, there are some asks that will simply not be answered, and are often deleted instead of being answered for a few reasons.

Below is a list of the types of questions we see many times that will not typically be answered by Neko or the team, so please avoid asking them at risk of your question being deleted immediately:

How would [character] react to an MC who has [specific trait, sexuality, style, gender presentation or specific sex]?

How would they react if MC did [action, habit, mistake, ect]?

What if MC is suicidal or as a specific mental illness?

All the circus members are capable of loving MC no matter what they look like, who they are, or what they do. These types of questions have been answered many times in the past, and it can be extremely difficult to answer each specific variation.

MC is a stand-in for you as fans to explore how they interact with the world and other characters. You do not need us to validate your idea of what you want to consume as a fan, but if you want to see it, we do encourage you to write it! Fiction is a wonderful way to express yourself and can even be cathartic.

This is also because there are many life experiences that we on the team don’t share, and we don’t want to misrepresent a culture, religion, sexuality, gender or mental health illness because of our lack of familiarity or connection.

Some of our mods may be able to connect with certain things, but please be aware that if we cannot offer a better answer than ‘yes, you would be accepted and appreciated’ then we will not answer the question due to the sheer volume of asks that we receive!

What if MC was [specific sexual orientation or gender]?

Again, the clowns will love you no matter what. This could be another opportunity to write or support your fellow fans by commissioning writing of the specific things you want to see!

Sexuality and gender presentation can be an incredibly intimate and personal thing, and exploring that is healthy! We appreciate the full spectrum of the human experience and think it is wonderful when fans explore that with the characters— you don’t need our permission to do that!

What if MC were aromantic/ace/lesbian/etc?

There is a protagonist route, so you don't have to romance the clowns if you don't wish to. Some people love the idea of exploring a platonic connection with these characters, and there is a lot of room to do so!

When will Day 3 come out?

You (as well as us mods!) must wait for Neko to make posts about Day 3 and any other updates. Please remember he is writing, coding, creating, and working on the game all by himself. All we mods help with is this blogs management.

"Hey Pierrot, how would you react if--?" -or- "Hey Harlequin what do you think---?"

All asks directed to the characters themselves will be deleted immediately. This is a perk of Neko's Patreon AMA style questions only!

“To Pierrot: What foods do you like?” <- This is a character question and will not be answered.

“What kinds of foods does Pierrot like?” <- This is a question that may be answered.

How do I romance Jester/Ticket Taker/Doctor/Boss?

At the moment, you don't. The only options as of now are Pierrot, Harlequin, both of them, or neither of them. If any more options for routes will be added in the future then they would be as add-ons or DLC, but this isn't decided yet. Neko's gotta make the game first!

We love that you are so deeply invested in the characters and want to know how they would react to your specific situations, but that isn't feasible to add or answer every possible option available. MC is only following the story of The Freak Circus visual novel, it is up to you to fill in who MC is to you!

First time using the ask box.

I want to ask a question on the fools design. I noticed each one of the fools have similar design to each of the characters.

Is this a way for determining which fools belong to one of the characters?

My question,

Since Doctor has Russian accent (if I remember correctly), is this part of his lore-origin or something unimportant? (Like, maybe he was born in Russia or was influenced by their culture).

Hello, Darth here to answer this one— it’s actually a pretty funny story how Doctor ended up with his Russian accent!

It all started when I first discovered The Freak Circus and began recording/editing/posting my interpretations of Pierrot and Harlequin’s voices. I took a lot of direction from the details Neko posted about at the time, especially Pierrot with his lower, raspier texture. As the other characters were better introduced (Ticket Taker, Jester and Doctor) I wanted to try voicing them as well— but I ran into an issue!

As a single person voicing several characters, especially someone who is new to voice acting itself, it can be VERY easy for their voices to ‘meld’ together, and it was very important to me that the characters sound distinct from one another!

It was fairly simple for me to figure out a ‘place’ for Pierrot (deep and raspy), Harlequin (high and fruity full-bodied) and Jester (light, androgynous and airy), but Ticket Taker and Doctor were in an odd spot. I wanted Ticket Taker to be in the higher range and Doctor to be in the lower range, but a lot of my first attempts just made them sound too close to the other characters. I know that training could have helped a lot, since a person’s voice is very much like an instrument and can be refined with experience and guidance, but at the time I just wanted to figure something out that worked!

So I go to Neko randomly one day and, as a joke about Doctor’s personal preference for keeping alone or otherwise away from crowds (he’s a bit of a hermit), I ask him: “What if Doctor just grew up on movies and TV shows and decided ‘I like the way this accent sounds, it makes people intimidated, people are already intimidated with me, so why not emulate it?’. And it just becomes part of how he speaks— he loves confusing people!”.

The joke went on for a while, especially as I personally headcanon Doctor as being on the autistic spectrum (I repeat, this is a headcanon, this is not canonical information but is important to the answer) and as an autistic individual myself I love emulating and learning about accents, there’s something enriching about learning all the cool noises/phonemes/language sounds a person can make!

So in short, Doctor has a Russian accent (despite being from Brazil) because of an inside joke between me and Neko while I was developing his voice alongside the others. Its become an important part of his character in a fun, roundabout way and I like to think he’d have fun telling the MC this little fact about himself <3

Will we see MC interacting with the other characters without Pierrot's presence?

A friend and I have a theory that Jester is the older brother and that's why he's a good leader :)

So, actually no, the colors were chosen strategically, but each of them has at least one of the colors they like in their costume!

(I'm sure I've answered this in the past, but some older questions may not be very helpful because I decided to change something in the script >.>)

Onto the question, do the characters have a human-ish anatomy under the clothes or is their anatomy not considered "conventional beauty standards"? (I'm sorry for the weird English it's not my first language!)
