Emulate and Create 3 - PolaroidΒ
For this I had to find a polaroid template photo from google and open it up in photoshop. I opened up my image of the daisy in photoshop as well and made both images the same size so they would fit together. I dragged and dropped the daisy photo on to the polaroid one. It was obviously the wrong size and so I had to click ' free transform ' and shift to change the size. It still didn't fit perfectly but looked enough like a polaroid. I then turned the brightness down, changed the colour balance and contrast - all just to make it look a bit older, less digital. Doing this also changed the colour of the white border so using the select tool I picked out just that and changed the brightness/colour. I actually quite like it.
Ten images resized.

I really enjoyed researching George Hurrell, he was an amazing photographer and came from a similar background as myself - studying Art first before discovering he was better at Photography.
I was trying to recreate a photograph that is similar to Edward Hurrell's -Β his photographs are black and white and have a hard contrast and smooth appearance. I picked this photograph as it already has a 'Hollywood Glam' feel to it. I changed it to black and white in Photoshop and adjusted the brightness and contrast. I used the Spot healing tool to clean up the skin, so it looked more like his photographs - where the skin is flawless and eyebrows and everything are perfect. Then I opened up a new layer (50% grey) and dodged and burned to make the darks darker etc. I don't really like the outcome of it as it's patchy and if I was to do it again i'd make it smoother.

Reportage Research: Photographer Lee Friedlander
Block 2 - Group shots (ambient lighting, flash) This was harder to take than I first thought but mostly because it's difficult to get all 3 people (or more) posed correctly, or staying still. One person would blink and then in the other shot someone else would. Also I found using the flash to be very overwhelming when outside in daylight - it made the image over exposed at times. We found this area inside a car park that was clear. With a wide aperture of f/2.8 and the flash settings turned down they came out pretty good. I like that the first two and the end two go well together and have the same sort of vibe. I like the way that they're all lined up in each shot and it's exactly what I was going for.
