A couple people requested a tutorial on my drawing process + how I color, so here we go! (Reminder: I am still a beginner and idk what I’m actually doing)

I use procreate so I have no idea if this works with any other applications lol
STEP 1: sketch
I use this pencil called Waratah for my sketch. I usually make it a really dark pink because I think it’s pretty but I also use black a lot. I also use my sketch as my lineart because I’m lazy
STEP 2: blocking out colors
You can use any brush that doesn’t really have much texture and is opaque. When I draw obi wan I always start with the hair (which I make way more ginger than it actually is in canon because I can) so I can reference the other colors off of it. I color pick what I used for the hair color and then make it a more yellow tinted color that’s lighter and less saturated for his skin, and for the blush around his nose and ears I color pick the skin tone and make it a TINY bit redder and a little darker and more saturated. And everything else I just pick whatever color I feel like lol
(for Cody I usually make his hair a dark pinkish color and his skin tone is usually similar to Obi-Wan’s hair color, except redder, less saturated, and a bit darker.)
yes I pick all the colors in relation to each other. Idk my brain just works like that I guess.
STEP 3: Shading
For this I use a multiply layer most of the time (although sometimes i don’t and I use a regular layer and just make the color more blue tinted, more saturated, and darker for the shade if I’m feeling locked in but the multiply layer is a lot easier imo)
When using the multiply layer, I just pick the color of the place I want to shade (e.g. pick the hair color if you want to shade the hair) and then shift it a little towards blue and make it less saturated and lighter. Then just put the new color wherever you want to shade on the hair. Repeat this for all the different colors.
STEP 3: gradients
On a new layer above your line art, pick a really saturated orange, draw an arc in the corner, fill it in, then set the layer mode to color dodge. Go to the magic wand lookin thing (idk what it’s called lol) and pick Gaussian blur and just blend it out completely a couple times until you like how it looks. This brings a really bright fun look to your drawing imo
New layer. Now you’re going to pick a desaturated color that’s not too light or too dark and make an arc and fill it in on the opposite side (e.g. if you put the orange arc on the top left you’ll want this one on the bottom right). Then set the layer mode to color dodge and blend it out with Gaussian blur the same way.
THATS ALL I DO ITS REALLY THAT EASY!!

Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
I should also add- I ran into my rabbi and explained the situation. I then asked, earnestly, if there was a remedy. A mikveh of sorts, or a beit din, or something.
He turned to me, sighed, and said in a very deadpan tone-- "Plants don't have covenants, Joy,"

Qui-gon is a cop/detective. Obi-wan is his adopted son (found him as a baby).
Anakin is the son of Shmi, qui-gon’s friend (he helped her during a case before). She died on accident recently, leaving anakin alone, so he got adopted too.
Turns out if you spend the better part of two years pushing against your own expectations and cognitive dissonance and trying to really own the idea that you have to let the thing you're making be bad—then when somebody tries to accuse you of making something bad?
I literally just laughed, because, yep! I sure am!
I think I accidentally inoculated myself against someone trying to shame me for making something cringe. 10/10 I fully recommend.
Now if they try to get abusive about this, there's no trying to 'own' these little shits because they're chasing a power high via trying to shame people about fanfiction. That's more pathetic than all of the cringe I could possibly write combined. So they'll just get blocked and possibly reported for harassment and I shall continuing making bad fic.

You can make it better later, or let it stay as it is, just for the joy of fandom and creativity. Tag your work and let the readers filter themselves. The fandom is only stronger for more works being made, so write the things you wanted to read and maybe someone you never met will have wanted to read it to. Write the cringe stuff.

I am a normal person who understands thought crimes are not real, fiction is not reality, and people can read/write/enjoy whatever they want as long as it’s fiction and no one in real life is harmed. I don’t have to like it, because I know how to mute, block and scroll past what I don’t want to see. Overall I think labels are childish, but by definition I am proship and profic. I am also against censorship.
And if you (general you) shame or harass real people over fiction, you’re a bully and this blog is not a safe place for you.
I am anti-censorship. I do not approve of people engaging in fandom policing—no, not even for AI, you are not as accurate as you think—stop cosplaying as cops. Don't like it, don't read it. Curate your online experience, block people, block tags, block websites.
As a minor, more personal aside: I also have a great distaste for people engaging in fandom to proclaim 'x trend needs to die' because they don't care for it. I don't care if you think it's oversaturated, make more of the thing you do like and move on.
'But that specific thing is so bad! It's bad characterization! It's not canon! It's bad fanon trope! It's a ship I don't like! They keep writing about problematic things, and aren't publicly making a big show that they know it's wrong and that bothers me!'
I don't care.
Let Fanfiction be bad. "Bad Fic" should not be censored. Period.
And if you think this might be about you, maybe consider how you are performing your fandom in public spaces for others to see. (AND YES, TUMBLR IS PUBLIC, YOU NINNIES). There is a psychological phenomena (don't ask me to cite sources right now, I beg, but I'm not a doctor either!!), wherein if you are constantly searching for things to dislike, you are bonding with people over your mutual dislike of something; you are constantly framing your taste and your consumption with an eye to the negative; then that will soon be all you see because you've trained your brain to do this, and the brain is a lazy tapioca pudding.
Also? Nobody fucking asked you to be a critic, being a critic is easy, it's lazy even. If you want to pick a fight on an 'well as an intellectual' level, then write an essay and submit it for peer review instead of asking your followers to wank you for your weak ass take.
Please, for the love of the OTW, try to look for the things you actually like. You'll be shocked at how much more pleasurable your entire life will become over time. Hey it might take more effort for now, and it's actually really hard to start noticing when all you do is criticize. It's no fun realizing that 'oh shit, I was the asshole all along'. Our brains, our egos, our feelings, none of them like it. The upside is, you don't have to fucking out yourself! You don't have to perform self growth for anybody. You can just...realize you're doing it, interrupt yourself, and go look for something you like to talk about instead.
