read the girlframe book, had a really vivid vision of a vatgrown pilot and its defective twin. Cinderella is physically healthy, but hard to control and an all-around brat. Sleeping Beauty is an obedient dog but cannot function outside of its life support machine.

Interesting question that came up during my first game: Can a Newgirl never become Ace, since its Mentor always counts as being higher Status? Or does the "counts" there not affect standings on Status and is more just to keep the Mentor only for giving orders?

“Counts” means it can still literally be higher status. So an Ace newgirl is higher status than everyone except it’s mentor, even if it’s mentor is the dog and can’t give orders to anyone else

I've been working on A Most Bloody Devotion for the past month and it has swelled in size to about 80 pages. 20 classes, 29 pages of GM guid

Rather than doing a specific pointcrawl for A Most Bloody Devotion (my OSR/romance/cannibalism game) I've made a "pointframe." Essentially a structure which will make a pointcrawl for you!

now, as much as this still falls into the category of horror this was oddly comforting. It's kinda like how people say death could be someone who meets you and walks you off into the afterlife, giving you a shoulder to cry on. Or in this case, a series of erotic or cosmic experiences before you die. It's like a menu of cosmic bliss. A kind of true acceptance with a tinge of horror and loss that I can only really compare to achieving Golconda in Vampire the Masquerade (which I have done, the GM did it masterfully and I got a similar feeling when we got to my redemption scene)

I know next to nothing about PbtA conceptually, but my friend asked if GIRL FRAME combat is more Masks or Flying Circus. Where would you reckon this game falls?

I haven't read flying circus, but combat is based around damaging enemy assets by pitting them against your assets, exposing enemy cores, and maneuvering into advantageous (narrative) positions. It's crunchier than masks but still has a fairly traditional pbta cinematic approach.

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
