Devín Castle, Slovakia 🇸🇰

Devín Castle is a historic fortress located at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers, near Bratislava, Slovakia. Its strategic position made it an important military and trade point for centuries.

The site was inhabited as early as the Neolithic period, but the castle became significant during the time of the Great Moravian Empire in the 9th century, when it served as a defensive stronghold against the Franks. Later, it became part of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary.

Kreuzenstein Castle, Austria 🇦🇹

Kreuzenstein Castle is a medieval-style castle located near Vienna, Austria. The original fortress dates back to the 12th century, but it was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War in the 17th century.

In the late 19th century, Count Johann Nepomuk Wilczek rebuilt Kreuzenstein using original medieval architectural elements collected from across Europe. Because of this, the castle is not a true medieval ruin but a romantic reconstruction that reflects how a medieval castle might have looked.
