Tokyodebunker ghouls meet my ocs
Summary: Yuri and Jiro were sent to find anomalies at a recently emptied lab, instead they find experiments left behind. Taking them back to Mortkranken they have to figure out how to care for them.
Warnings/tags: experiment ocs, yuri is probably ooc he was so difficult to write for, children, light angst, mention of child abuse, fluff, POV third person, cross posted on Ao3, cute ending, platonic, Jiro on babysitter duty
“This is supposed to be a lab?” Yuri questioned with disgust, stepping through the front entrance and being careful of broken glass on the floor. Jiro followed behind him as they walked down the blood splattered corridor with lights flickering and buzzing above them. The dirt and grime in the corners couldn't even begin to describe how filthy this place was, even for only being abandoned for a few days already. As they made their way down the corridor, they stopped between two doors on each side of them.
Jiro took the door to the left, opening it slowly as it creaked against rust. He observed the room; marks that looked like hand prints were corroded into the thick steel walls, and the light in the room was strangely ultraviolet light. The door didn't move behind him as he stepped further into the room, noticing a glowing green puddle in the far corner of the room. Jiro approached the glowing puddle with caution, stopping as it began to shift and dark green circles appeared in the puddle in the form of eyes. Jiro stared at the puddle in thought before turning and leaving the room. He came back in and set a stainless steel barrel down on its side. After a bit of waiting, the puddle slowly slid into the barrel with little resistance. Putting the lid on the barrel and sealing it, he had successfully captured the anomaly. He lifted it onto his shoulder with one arm, carrying it out of the room, and waited for Yuri.
Yuri took the door on the right, staring at the metal door in front of him, hesitating to touch the handle as he noticed the blood prints smeared along it. He took a deep breath as he opened the door; he turned his head away and scrunched his nose as it screeched, and a heavy metallic smell hit him. With the flickering light of the hallway, he tried to see into the darkness of the room as a shrill voice caught him off guard.
“W- wait! I've been good, I promise!” The voice said as he heard chains rattle, echoing around the room.
Yuri took a step back from the door as he scrambled to turn on his phone flashlight. Seeing the state of the room, small pools of blood on the ground, filth coating walls and corners, dead bugs littering the floor.
As he moved the light around the room, he saw a frail young girl chained to the wall by her neck. Her hair was long, unkempt, and dirty. Having two pairs of arms, she covered her face while holding her knees up to her chest. He noticed the dried blood on her face and hands as he carefully stepped closer to the girl.
The girl flinched away, hearing Yuri come closer. “Please, I won't try escaping again!” she begged.
“What did they do to you?” Yuri thought to himself as he crouched in front of the quivering girl. He reached his hand up to touch the metal collar around her neck. Smelling the scent on his glove, she flinched away from him, her arms shifting from her face to her chest with her hands beside her head.
“My name is Dr. Yuri Isami. I'm just going to look at the collar,” Yuri whispered, halting his movement as his eyes widened and saw dried blood and dirt on a part of her face. Her long bangs covered up her face down to her under eye. He took a deep breath, trying to keep his composure. “May I?” He choked, staring at her face before prying his eyes away.
“O- okay,” She tensed as she hesitantly whispered an answer. He slowly brought his hand up to the collar again, brushing her long hair out of the way; he started examining the lock on it.
“It needs a key,” Yuri stated, pulling his hand away from the collar. He stood up, getting ready to leave the room when he heard her speak frantically.
“Where are you going? You're not getting the others, right? I'm not in trouble?”
“I’m getting the key to your collar. No, you're not in trouble.”
Yuri says, staring down at the doorknob before leaving the room.
He slowly closes the door behind him, starting to walk down the hall in thought.
As soon as he's out of earshot, he lifts his head and quickens his pace, scanning the doors for anything useful. When he reaches the end of the hallway, he finds a room with a plaque that reads “staff only”. Walking up to the door, he grabs the handle and turns it, letting out a gasp as it easily opens. Flicking on the light switch, the room lights up in a daylight white color. Yuri took a step inside and heard a crunch under his foot. Looking down, he realized he stepped on paper that was thrown around the room. Crouching down to pick it up, he recognized that it was a document on an experiment the lab did. Scrunching up his nose as he dropped the paper, he turned his attention to look around the room for a key, opening drawers and filing cabinets. When he couldn't find anything, he crouched down and checked the floor, finding a silver key under one of the chairs. He swiftly grabbed the key and left the room.
Once he entered her room again, he slowly walked over to her, kneeling in front of her with his hands up. “I'm going to take your collar off now,” he said gently, reaching up to touch the collar around her neck. She sat still with her hands on her knees as he inserted the key into the lock mechanism, turning the key till it clicked and the collar fell off with a heavy thud. The girl immediately reached two hands up to touch her neck as tears trickled down her cheeks. “I'm free,” she whispered as she started sobbing.
“Now that your collar is off, we can leave this filthy place,” Yuri said proudly, standing back up and holding a hand out for her to take.
“Leave? But won't I get in trouble? They said they'll find me if I ever leave,” The girl mumbled, wiping her tears with her hands.
“You won't get in trouble; I'll bring you to a place that's safe, and they'll never find you,” He coaxed, as he helped her stand up from the ground. She held onto his sleeve with one hand as she tried to balance herself; the other one fidgeted with her shirt as the other two covered her ears as he led her out of the room and met Jiro waiting for them.
“Jiro! What's in the barrel?” Yuri questioned as he pointed at the stainless steel barrel he was holding over his shoulder. The girl moved closer to Yuri when he yelled.
“An anomaly, I believe,” Jiro answered, glancing at the girl as she buried her face in Yuri's leg. “What about her?” He asked.
“I'm not sure, but there is a staff room at the end of the hall. I want to check for anything in there before we leave,” Yuri stated as he gently took the girl's hand off his sleeve. “Jiro, can you carry her? She can't walk that well.”
Jiro crouched in front of the girl. She gasped as he lifted her into his arm; she held onto his shirt with two hands and wrapped her other arms around his neck. When Yuri knew the girl was safely held in Jiro's arm, he started walking down the hall to the staff only room, with Jiro following behind him.
When they reached the room, Yuri walked in and started checking the cabinets and drawers he saw the files in before. Jiro stood at the entrance of the room as he watched Yuri mumbling under his breath as he checked through all the remaining files. Yuri sighed as most were destroyed, but he managed to find two files that seemed completely intact still, under the names Henjin and Kimoi. “These are the only files I can find intact in this wretched place.” Yuri huffed, holding up the files as he turned around. Jiro moved out of the doorway so Yuri could walk past.
They were pleased it was still dark out by the time they got back to darkwhick, the girl was now fast asleep in Jiro's arm while he held the stainless steel barrel in the other. Yuri held the files of Henjin and Kimoi, reading them, and mumbling under his breath as he walked. When they got into the Mortkranken house, Jiro walked to one of the empty dorm rooms and gently laid the girl on the bed, setting the barrel beside it. He walked back out after tucking the girl into the bed, meeting Yuri in the examination room.
“Can you believe this? Stooping so low to experiment on children.” Yuri huffed, dropping the files down on the table as Jiro walked over. “Look at this!” Yuri shouted as he pointed to a part in Kimoi's file reading, “Kimoi is to be isolated in her room, her corrosive body has become too much of an issue for any further experimentation to continue”. Jiro picked up the paper, reading it thoroughly as Yuri riffled through the other file. “This one's even worse!” Yuri shouted, pointing to a part in Henjin's file reading, “Experiments on Henjin have been successful, results conclude two pairs of arms, heightened senses, sharp teeth. Unfortunately, she thought she could have a mind of her own, so we had to take away her eyes so she couldn't continue trying to escape”. “This is ridiculous! Treating children like this, especially in such an unsanitary environment.” Yuri complained, while both of them studied the files late into the night.
In the morning, Henjin woke up, feeling the plush mattress underneath her as she sat up, slowly pushing the blanket off her. Sitting on her bed, she listened to the sounds in the room, the vent blowing air below her, Kimoi moving around in the barrel, the sounds of footsteps and voices passing by just outside the door. The scents in the room were mild, the dusty concrete floor, the wooden shelves, and the door. Henjin climbed out of bed, being careful of Kimoi's barrel beside her bed as her feet touched the cold floor of her room. Using her hands, she found the wall of her room. Pressing her hand against the wall, she navigated around the room till she felt the door, her hand paused as she heard people on the other side. She waited till it became silent to open the door. Walking down the now silent hallway with her hand against the wall to keep track of where she was going, she called out to Jiro to find out where he was. “Mr. Jiro.”
As she continued to walk down the hallway, she stopped at a door that was slightly cracked open. Hearing people talk behind it, she called out to him again, “Mr. Jiro?”
Yuri was testing out new chemicals in the examination room with Jiro helping where he was needed. Jiro turned his head towards the sound coming from the doorway. Stepping away from Yuri for a moment to open the door, he saw Henjin at the entrance holding onto the wall. “Mr. Jiro?” She said, not knowing who was in front of her.
“Hello, Henjin,” Jiro responded, crouching down to her level.
“Mr. Jiro!” Henjin exclaimed, stumbling over her long hair as she fell into him. Feeling her fall into his arms, he ran a hand through her hair.
“You need a bath,” Jiro said as he picked her up. She held onto him tightly, burying her face into his neck before her attention was disrupted, feeling the gem on his uniform and the chains dangling off it. She lifted her head a bit, two hands still holding him tightly while her other two hands played with the gem. He was mentally taking notes of anything that wasn't stated in her file, personality, habits, health. The walk was silent as he carried her back to her and Kimoi's room.
When he reached their room, he slowly opened the door before carefully setting Henjin down on the ground. “Stay here for a moment,” He spoke before leaving the room for a moment. When he came back, he had a spare set of clothes and a hairbrush for Henjin. She was in the same spot he left her. Jiro gently took one of her hands and led Henjin to the bathroom, setting the clothes and brush on the counter as he turned to the tub, turned on the faucet, and started the bath.
“Mr. Jiro, what are you doing?” She asked, lightly pulling on his sleeve.
“Starting a bath for you.” He responded.
“A bath? Is that good?” She asked, tilting her head to the side.
“Yeah, I can help clean you if you would like.” He said, turning his head to look at her after checking the water temperature. After helping her get in the bath, it was mostly quiet as Jiro cleaned her, other than Jiro instructing her to close her eyes so as not to get soap in them or to tilt her head back. Henjin made small comments about his hands as he washed her. “Your hands are cold,” she mumbled when he covered her eyes as he was rinsing out her hair.
Once he was done washing her, he helped her out of the bath, dry off, and put her in new clothes that happened to be a bit too big on her. The collar of the shirt slid off her bony shoulder and reached past her knees. The arm holes were big enough to fit both her arms in.
Jiro stared down at her as she touched the fabric of her new shirt. “I will go bring you some breakfast.” He stated, gently taking her hand and leading her back to her bed before checking on Kimoi in the barrel. Jiro lifted the lid of the barrel and saw she was flat against the bottom, dormant. He decided to leave the lid off for now as he left the room to get some breakfast for the two of them.
After about fifteen minutes, Jiro came back, opening the door slowly as he walked into the room with a tray of food in his hands. “I brought breakfast,” He announced, closing the door behind him. Henjin sat up in her bed as she heard the door open, the smell of warm bread wafted through the air with a couple of other scents she couldn't make out. Jiro gently placed the tray down on the bed in front of her.
“What is it?” She asked, tilting her head down towards the tray.
“A slice of french toast, with a side of fruits and almonds,” Jiro responded, noticing her pick at the food instead of eating it. “You don't have to eat everything.” He added.
“There’s nothing weird in it, is there?” Henjin asked, pulling apart the french toast.
“I assure you there's nothing weird in the food, you don't have to eat the french toast, but eat some of the fruits,” Jiro responded, glancing over at Kimoi who was trying to climb out of the barrel. Henjin turned her head as she heard Kimoi start making noises against her barrel.
“You want the french toast, Kimoi?” she asked, bringing the french toast close to the barrel. Kimoi reached out a slimy tendril towards the french toast, her eyes curved into arches as it disintegrated under her corrosive touch. Feeling the french toast disappear in her hands, Henjin gave Kimoi the other half she pulled apart as she ate the almonds and fruit. Jiro watched as they both ate the meal that was given, taking mental notes to write down later.
