Critical Issues in Illustration Animation

...or, for a more medical perspective, you might visit Medicine Now, at the Wellcome Collection, in which contemporary artists respond to major themes in medicine...

...or, for more politicial public communications, you might take a trip to the show Cultural Revolution State graphics in China from the 1960s to the 1970s at the William Morris Gallery.

If you’re interested in speculative art & design and how creatives can respond to future challenges, in Is This Tomorrow? at the Whitechapel Gallery, artists and architects have collaborated on experimental and experiential projects that offer visions of the future and respond to issues like climate change...

...or you might look at past visions of the future at the Design Museum in Home Futures exploring yesterday’s vision of the domestic spaces of the future

Domestic spaces also feature in the photography and film work of Joanna Piotrowska on show at Tate Britain

where you can also see an exhibition of groundbreaking reportage photography by Don McCullin

and finally, over at Tate Modern are shows of work by Dorethea Tanning, an intriguing Surrealist painter and sculptor

as well as an exhibition of work by Franz West in a range of media from collage to furniture, which includes replicas of some his Passstücke papier-mâché sculptures that you can pick up and handle (so a good one for those of you interested in interaction, play and touch!)

House of Illustration has one great show coming to an end: Journeys Drawn:  Illustration from the Refugee Crisis  - worth a visit for anyone interested in reportage and documentary...

and another fab exhibition just opened: Corita Kent: Power Up, described as ‘The UK’S biggest ever show  of work by the pop artist, social activist and nun’ - relevant to those interested in activist or socially-engaged design and/or screen printing

There’s also a number of displays at the British Museum currently: Rembrandt thinking on paper should appeal to those interested in drawing...

whereas artists’ use of a different medium - the postcard - often with a political slant (feminist, anti-war, etc.) is on show in The World Exists To Be Put On A Postcard: artists' postcards from 1960 to now.

In terms of different media, if you are interested in book illustration, you might want to visit Cats on the Page at the British Library

Or if your interested more in photography, you might want to check out Only Human, Martin Parr at the National Portrait Gallery...

...or Jessa Fairbrother: Constellations & Coordinates  at the Photographer’s Gallery (worth visiting if you’re interested in the body, the self and performance)...

...or the work of the fantastic Diane Arbus at the Hayward Gallery (good for those interested in portraiture and place)

At the Hayward, there’s also a show of work by Kader Attia titled The Museum of Emotion which explores ‘the ways in which colonialism continues to shape how Western societies represent and engage with non-Western cultures’

The relationship between collecting, cultural institutions and colonialism is also the subject of the display Slavery, culture and collecting at the Museum of London Docklands
