okay i don’t know what finally made dream snap but i am so proud of him! he removed the dream stan supremacy from his alt twitter bio, he posted an up to date version of his boundaries that talked about everything from shipping to racism, he’s learned to correct stans firmly when they’re out of line through dm’s instead of replying to tweets directly (sucks he has to do that in the first place though - mcyttwt my beloathed), he unfollowed a toxic stan, he deactivated his private twitter and has barely been on twitter except for his fanart account that doesn’t follow ‘stan accounts’ per say, and that we know brings him joy. i don’t know if he hired pr or has just decided to make a change, but either way i am so happy for him because it looks like he’s cutting a lot of negativity out of his life, and in doing so has also addressed a lot of the problems within his community. bravo.

i can’t stop thinking about how dream didn’t just immediately write the letter to techno. he had been tortured for over sixty days at that point, even if he thought quackity was lying, wouldn’t it be worth the risk?

why wouldn’t he take that chance? he says he cares about no one, that he has no attachments, so even if quackity was lying, why would he care?

i can’t stop thinking about it, not because there’s the implication that dream either cares about techno or still clings to the hope he can use the favor to get him out.

but because he’s been in that jail for over a hundred days, tortured for over sixty and he still said no at first. because even after calling quackity ‘sir’, even while cowering in the corner, he still looked at the person torturing him and shouted, ‘you like it! you like torturing me!’

i can’t stop thinking about it because quackity is good at what he does, he knows all the right places to poke and prod and he’s had over sixty days and he still hasn’t broken dream.

if there's one thing i know abt quackity, that man thrives off of spite. everyone thinks the green guardians are gonna lose bc of him and he's gonna prove them all wrong on saturday.

its always interesting when i see posts that r like “and this is why c!dream isn’t a sympathetic villain while c!wilbur and c!quackity are sympathetic”

bc i dont know how to tell u this…. but the only reason we think of them as sympathetic villains is bc we’ve always gotten their pov.

we saw wilbur’s pov of l’manberg. we saw his pov of the elections, we saw his pov of the festival and him losing it. THERE’S VODS OF THAT SHIT.

same w quackity. we saw his pov of swag vs pog. we saw his pov of the schlatt administration. we saw his pov of the war, and we saw his pov of feeling abandoned by kinoko kingdom. we sympathize w them, bc we understand why they act the way they do. we understand why they’re villains.

that does not apply to dream. we know next to nothing abt him. we’ve NEVER seen his perspective of any event on the smp, and not only that we will usually see dream through the eyes of people who fucking HATE him (tommy, tubbo, ranboo, sam, etc)

so it isn’t that any of them are sympathetic or not. its that we are meant to understand and see wilbur and quackity’s character arcs develop, but we aren’t meant to see dream’s.

that should honestly be the whole point of any post that decides whether or not a villain is sympathetic: how much we’ve been ALLOWED to sympathize with them. We haven’t been ALLOWED to sympathize to sympathize with c!dream because the storytellers don’t want to give us the opportunity.

Something that i’ve noticed is that people who believe c!wilbur can change and become better are the people who watched his POV. whereas those who started watching after Nov 16, who only ever saw him through others’ eyes are more likely to view him as an irredeemable big bad.

so yeah, the only reason less people sympathize with c!dream is because we don’t se his POV. But… that’s the whole point?

I'm v anxious so I'm on anon, but I wanted 2 mention something abt ur post abt how gettin a character's pov means they're more easily viewed as a sympathetic villain. while I will say right away that I hate him as a content creator, I am v fascinated by c!Schlatt, n tho we never get his pov, it's easier for me to see him as a sympathetic villain. so do you think it's just pov, or do u think the clues we get from other povs despite the relations between characters have an effect?

this is a very good question and i think it can very much depend.

i think there's several things that can affect how sympathetic you interpret a character.

-pov

-how others view the character

-personal biases

i will be the first to admit that the main reason i like c!dream so much is bc i love cc!dream. he's my favorite content creator so i tend to be more attached tp his character even if he is a villain.

with c!schlatt i think its a matter of generally not knowing ANYTHING about him. we might not get dream's pov but we still know quite a bit about him. we know a bit of his past, and although we might not know EVERYTHING we still have a general idea abt his character.

c!schlatt on the other hand is an enigma. its easier to headcanon and sympathize w him when we don't know anything for sure abt him
