imo the REAL AND SECRET reason why “tumblr prose” doesn’t, like, support the weight of conventional narrative writing with sustained themes is that it didn’t… primarily… emerge as a form of prose fiction. it comes from text posts, which are improv. the assumed context of like “tell me the name of god you fungal piece of shit” or whattever is conversational, not dramatic, and the intent is entirely playful
