Polyamory is safe for work. Polyamory is safe for kids. Polyamory is safe for day time tv. Polyamory isn’t more sexual than any other relationship and it can be just as romantic, sweet, and healthy.
Like unironically we should be subsidising at least 50% of their educations. What do you mean we have a shortage of doctors we should have surplus. What do you mean they’re being overworked they should be treated like royalty, they can fix human bodies
I don’t care if some of them are only doing it for the money. I don’t care if all of them are only doing it for the money. Intentions don’t matter to the stitches in my nana’s leg or the ten billion other lifesaving treatments we all get at a detriment to their finances and mental wellbeing. Entire cities are kept alive by just a couple thousand of them what are we DOINGGGGG
Absolutely. When I wrote this post I lumped nurses in with doctors in my head, but I should have added them in too. Also to everyone saying teachers, too: yes.

Seriously, one of the Greatest Goods you can do for society, and we're not making the easiest entry into the field as possible??? Doctors in training should be getting free tuition and housing for real.
Happy migraine and headache awareness month. This may seem like a minor terminology nitpick, but it’s a serious misconception about migraine: nausea is an actual migraine symptom, not a thing that happens because of the headache. When people with migraine experience nausea during attacks, it’s not because the pain is so bad (the idea that migraine is always excruciatingly painful is also a myth), it’s because migraine causes a lot of symptoms that aren’t pain, including nausea.
This goes for other symptoms as well: although pain can definitely contribute to people’s experiences of these symptoms, fatigue and brain fog are actual migraine symptoms, not just pain symptoms.
This is also your friendly PSA that nausea is not a normal tension headache symptom, if you frequently get nauseous with your headaches, you almost certainly have migraine.
One of my migraine types is vestibular. Usually those don’t have any pain, but I get vertigo and nausea. To the point I have to lay down, because sitting up/standing makes the nausea way worse and I risk falling.
Migraine sufferers will be like "it's not like I'm disabled or anything, it's just that if I do any of these normal everyday things other people do all the time, my head explodes. But I'm fine honestly, as long as I avoid doing anything ever and my environment and the weather never changes, then my head explodes a little less"
it's wild that popular discourse around migraines is that there are too many people who claim to have migraines but "just have bad headaches". this is the exact opposite of my experience? i'm still trying to convince several of my friends that their "bad tension headaches" that are unilateral, throbbing, cause light sensitivity, nausea, etc, are migraines lmao. migraine is underdiagnosed and undertreated by every metric i can think of.
this narrative is not harmless! it prevents people from getting treatment that could really benefit them. so i would like it to die. thank you.
As a guy who went to see a neurologist only to "rule out migraines" because I thought I had "tension headaches at worst and also it's not that bad really" only to realize by tracking my headache days that I have very bad chronic migraines just with no aura (most people with migraines don't have them), I co-sign this 100%.
Just starting abortive medications already improved my quality of life so much and now that my doctor started me on preventatives, I might actually be able to have more than a handful of headache-free days each month.
Migraine is frequently misdiagnosed as chronic sinusitis or tension headaches according to research. Mostly because people have a very rigid (inaccurate) idea of what it actually is.
But even if it's not migraine, you still deserve treatment for your headaches. Just because someone else has them worse than you doesn't mean you don't deserve relief.
Learning about the different types of migraine and headache disorders can help you better understand your symptoms and discuss them with you
yeah i found out awhile back that the 'pressure headaches' that i get that 'aren't that bad' (but still leave me feeling sick and dysfunctional all day) were migraines. i now take a low dose of a preventative medication and the number of shitty rain days i have per month has dropped from like ten to two. it's great.
In my experience anyone who has chronic pain of any kind ALWAYS under diagnoses it in part cause people who DON'T have chronic pain always tell them how it's Not That Bad Just Get Over It and it takes a lot of fighting to get anyone (including doctors) to do anything about it. Fucked if I know why. Everyone seems to think we're making it up. I've never met anyone who is making it up.

I tend to think husband is being a bit dramatic when they get sick. A holdover of being tired of the 'man cold' being used by dad and brothers to get out of things.
But not this time. No, this one is just Mean. I regret any petty thoughts I had towards husband while they were in the middle of it.

In which I try to persuade people to play a game for my benefit :D
(If you play, and you name me as the person who told you about the game, I get in-game rewards)
So Torn is a free browser game. It's pretty old actually, I think started sometime early 2000s. It is a Slow Game, meant to while away 10-15 minutes of a day, and continue playing for months or years.
It's basically an online city, where you play a character trying to get up in the world. It has real Edgy vibes, and one of the most reliable ways to get money and items is through committing crimes. (I personally enjoy looking around in the junkyard for things to sell, and trying to crack online passwords)
I don't super recommend being in the world chat, but if you find some nice people it can be neat to chat in smaller groups like faction chat or job chat. I guess like anywhere on the internet xD
I'm most enjoying the success in a fictional life where I can't get it in real life. Perhaps if I really went into a junkyard and took things to pawn off xD
I've been playing for... about two months now? I'm a millionaire in-game now ^w^
Now, like most intentionally slow games, it'll look Super Complicated at first viewing. It's much less confusing as you get into it, cause you can't do many of the things until you gain levels and skills.
There are a couple different play styles you can pursue, specializing or dabbling in them all. I'm a dabbler ^w^ You can get a job, either from a game company or a player company, and get money and skills from staying in it (there's no real 'working' bit of the game). You can go to a gym and level up physical skills, these are used if you want to rob other players for money, or defend yourself if they try to mug you. You can of course do a whole range of crimes, with a variety of rewards and monies. You can do car racing, mostly for fun reasons, though if you bet on races you can get money too. You can also do traveling to other places to get special goods and bring them back to sell. And finally there's factions, where you team up with other players to do specific goals.
I've got a job at a player company making fireworks ^w^ And I do a lot of racing, a fair bit of crime, I'm in a faction, and I liked the idea of traveling and trading, but I'm small fry amongst them, so I got attacked a lot. Gotta work out at the gym more before trying again.
Anyway! If any of that sounds interesting to you, here's how to get to it
https://www.torn.com/
and if you say KieraElieson told you about it, I'd love the in-game rewards xD
If you play and particularly enjoy, let me know! I've got plenty of things that would be nice for a new player but are less valuable to me now. And you could join my faction if you like. We've got a discord we chat in also.
OK! so after you listen to the dolls of new albion, new albion radio hour, the new albion guide to analog consciousness, and the room beneath new albion (in that order), i highly recommend listening to the rest of paul shapera's work in this specific order:
- fairy tales for the lost and wandering
- fairy tales for homeless fairies
- the slenderman musical
- miss helen's weird west cabaret
- uncle raven's super happy fun time carnival
- the path from lost hollow to new albion
- the grand cyberpunk gala of gabriella gadfly
- the forgotten meme
- the broken cyborg
- the lost fairy
- katy shaw and the search for the stolen secret
- nash harding and the secret of the twisted tower
- kevin and abi and the secret of the golden pendant
- kevin and abi 2: the secret of the stolen sun
- jill's psychedelic sunday (if you are partial to such things, i highly recommend taking psychedelics, or at least a substantial amount of weed about 10 minutes before starting this one, or otherwise taking it far enough ahead of time that you start to come up when you start the first song: coming up)
- the posthuman war act one
- the posthuman war act 2
- the posthuman war act 3
- the posthuman war act 4
- the posthuman war act 5
- the posthuman war act 6
- the puppetshade chronicles part 1: the black beyond
- the puppetshade chronicles part 2: the lost kingdom
- the puppetshade chronicles part 3: the foul city
- the puppetshade chronicles part 4: the cryptic tear
- the puppetshade chronicles part 5: the bleeding stars
the puppetshade chronicles part 6-8 have yet to be released, but paul Shapera has confirmed that the puppetshade chronicles will have a total of 8 parts
I really like putting Posthuman War after slenderman and fairy tales, but before lost hollow and fairypunk. I feel like the storyline with Son Mi to Han Mi is more satisfying that way.
Also!! There are a few more I've discovered on his bandcamp that are not on Spotify, and have Important Moments that should be slotted in amongst the list! Particularly Uncle Raven's Storytime Theater: Never Neverland, which goes right after Gabriella Gadfly, is a Shame to not be on Spotify cause of how important it is!!!

podcasts could have been so good but they decided to make the main genres True Crime and Men Talking. shut up shut up the public yearns for audio dramas
i do appreciate how tumblr LOVES podcasts that aren't what most people think of when they think "podcast." you people love strange and terrible things happening to queer & confused characters, and i respect that
that being said we need a broad-scale revival of the golden age of radio (but this time without the Hays Code). before everyone had a television, radio dramas were THE premium form of at-home entertainment. there were so many to choose from: comedies, mysteries, crime, sitcoms, soap operas, you name it.
I am SO glad the public is rediscovering the joys of listening to audio plays, and damn well hope we can get some more variety. currently BBC Radio is doing amazing things with audio dramas (but the availability on their website is...not great. some shows pop up on archive.org before getting taken down for copyright, so pirate it when possible).
If you like horror podcasts, I recommend two canadian radio shows from the 1980s: Nightfall and Vanishing Point, both free online (and with amazing production value). also BBC's Fear On Four, some episodes of which are currently on archive.org (so download em while you can!)
I've found Many lovely audio drama podcasts by QCODE on Spotify, and even more done by smaller artists!
And if you like musicals when it comes to movies and plays, they come in audio drama format too! I've been engrossed in all the interconnected stories around New Albion by Paul Shapera for a few months now, listening over and over.
