Soft Things

what do they call gen alpha in an omegaverse?

beta steve who likes cute things. lace-edged socks. strawberry lip gloss. tiny barrettes he never wears outside his bedroom. oversized sweaters that make him look smaller. things he thinks he’s not supposed to want because he’s not an omega.

he has this soft pink dress and keeps it folded at the bottom of a drawer under old gym shirts. he puts it on one night with shaking hands, smoothing the fabric over his hips, staring at himself in the mirror and feeling beautiful for approximately twelve seconds before he breaks down crying.

he wants to be adored. wants someone to look at him gently, to tuck hair behind his ear and call him sweetheart like they mean it. he wants to be someone’s pretty thing so badly it aches. 

and then at night he curls up in bed clutching a pillow to his chest, crying quietly because no matter how badly he wants it, he’ll never get to be an omega.

but also. that means steve has to walk past the place where, in the upside down, they found eddie’s body. over and over. like. imagine him carrying groceries home. taking out the trash. coming back from work tired as hell. and every time, there it is. the same place, just wrong-side up.
