an example of this is drarry and ginny. i don’t like just erasing ginny and making draco james, albus and lily’s other parent. those are her children too, not just harry’s. he and draco would have different kids. same w wolfstar and teddy, that kid is literally named after dora’s father. he wouldn’t be named that even if she was only a surrogate. besides, wolfstar are girldad’s through and through.

i’ve hilariously also seen this happen in au’s w snape ending up w lily instead of james and being harry’s father. harry would literally not exist if james wasn’t his father, they’d have another kid entirely and i can’t fathom why people can’t grasp that. the child is a combination of the two people they were made by, and if they were made by a whole other person, they wouldn’t be the same child. if my parents hadn’t had me together and my mother had had me w a different dude, i wouldn’t exist, a different person would.

i understand how he fell into it. i imagine he goes straight into it after the war, eager to keep moving and doing things in order to not give himself a chance to think about it and inadvertently shut down, so he powers through training on pure adrenaline. he’s incredibly unstable while doing it, but he does it. he feels like he has an obligation to clean up the mess left after the war.

he’s an auror for a couple of years and is incredibly good at his job but is ultimately unfulfilled. after a while, ron decides to leave to help george w the joke shop, citing “it feels like it never ended and we’re still fighting” as a reason. it stumps harry for a moment, not sure what to make of it, but the thought pilfers through his brain without his permission.

eventually, he realises that it does still feel like they’re fighting, and that he’s tired. on a random wednesday, he just quits. when asked for a reason, his response is “i just don’t want to anymore”. he’s probably only 22/23 when this happens, and due to the war, he feels like he has no other skills other than quidditch because he was so focused on not dying, so he kind of just drifts for a while. he mentions this to hermione one day over tea, and she scoffs and reminds him of how good he was and how much he enjoyed teaching the da in their fifth year. it’s like a lightbulb goes off.
