“Did you not check the weather before you left? It’s Autumn, what did you expect?” Alexandria commented, “You could always move closer to it, unless you’re scared of the fire?” Alex mocked before shrugging. “It’s been okay, all these drinks taste so watered down, they’re horrible. I was expecting more, youknow?” 

“Oh, who cares about that? They’re all wasted, who’s going to remember?” Charlotte attempted to convince her. “Really?” She asked, immediately lighting up at her words, “I promise it won’t be embarrassing.” 

“Why? What’s behind me?”

“Honest answer?” Kiara asked, keeping her tone hushed. “I think... I think it’s a wild boar.”

“Oh absolutely,” Nora agreed. “I don’t even know why I came to be honest. I’m not involved in the academy at all. Guess my subconscious thought it might be a good idea to meet new people, or something like that.” By subconscious, she meant her dinosaur, who had been getting rather antsy– which by extension meant that Nora was also antsy. Having a telepathic dinosaur to act out her emotions wasn’t all bad.

“This isn’t just for students and staff you know,” Kiara pointed out to Nora. “But yeah I guess it’s good to get yourself out there,” she added with a little shrug. “Look you should be proud of yourself for coming in the first place. You could’ve totally figured out an excuse to not come last minute but you still made it. That’s a feat in itself.”

Aspen lined up her shot, moving the ball in her hands before throwing it to the cups on Kiara’s side of the table, hitting the edge of the cup as the ping pong ball fell to the floor, “Ah, damnit.” Aspen exclaimed. She was already two drinks gone and wasn’t liking her chances. “Wanna do me a favour and miss?”

“Can you stop looking at the cups like you wanna kill them. You’re actually pretty scary.” Theo pointed out at the others intense focus on his side of the playing field.

Amused, Kiara let out a chuckle as she looked up at Theo. “Look I’m just letting them know who’s boss. I do everything to win– even if it includes staring down the cups.”

“Come on, we can do it just like we did when we were kids.”

Looking like she was thinking it over for a minute, she sighed, “Alright I guess it could be fun. I should’ve brought a thicker jacket or something though.”

“You’re not actually planning to spend the night out here, are you?” Kiara asked as they set up the tent. “Because... it’s freezing. No thanks.”

“If you plan on turning around...” Kiara paused, swallowing back a lump in her throat after spotting the shiny black eyes looking directly at them, “...I suggest you do it very slowly.”

“I know it’s now officially Autumn, but does it have to switch to being so damn cold all of a sudden?” Nora asked, sticking her hands out to warm them up by the fire. “I hate the smell of my clothes the day after a bonfire, but honestly, I’d do anything to warm up right about now.”

“You can say that again,” she sympathized with a nod, keeping close to the fire as well. “Honestly if I had know it would get this chilly I probably would’ve stayed home. Being curled up in a blanket on the couch sounds like heaven right about now.”

“Kind of wish I brought a warmer jacket. This fire isn’t quite doing it’s duty,” Kiara curled up into herself a little. It wasn’t even that cold but every now and again a chilly wind would pass. “You alright? Come here with anyone?”

“I’m seriously not a great singer,” Kiara insisted. “I’m not going to talk you out of this, am I?” she then said after a moment of feeling the other’s eyes on her. “Okay, okay– you start it off though.”

Aspen nodded in agreement, leaning down in front of the cat and pouring a little bit of water in her hands for the cat to drink. It took the cat a second, but it responded and started to drink. “That’s a good sign, isn’t it?” 

“That’s what I like to hear! I just don’t like the disappointment of losing, but if you don’t lose then… no fear!” 

“Was it red?” he asked. The ball had zoned him in for a minute because he got distracted again. 

“Yeah,” she nodded. “That means you saw it, right?”

James is sitting on a bench in town near the lake, he was reading but he was yet again distracted by the picture of his family he uses as a bookmark. He jumped when the other spoke. “Sorry, what did you say? I was a bit distracted.”

“Yeah I got that,” Kiara replied. “I was going to ask if you saw a ball roll past here but if I only shifted your focus now, I doubt you saw it. Thanks anyways.”
