The number of Indigenous women in Quebec who have been subjected to forced sterilization and other forms of obstetric and gynecological viol
The number of Indigenous women in the province who have been subjected to forced sterilization and other forms of obstetric and gynecological violence is much higher than previously thought, according to a new report. On Tuesday, researchers at the UniversitĂŠ du QuĂŠbec en Abitibi-TĂŠmiscaminque (UQAT) released new findings â a follow-up to the first phase of their research published nearly four years ago. At that time, 35 womenâs testimonies were collected related to incidents that took place between 1980 and 2019. Twenty-two stories involved cases of forced sterilization.

i feel like starting an argument
think carefully before voting
if you press the RED BUTTON, you LIVE. if you press the BLUE BUTTON, you will DIE, UNLESS one (1) person who reblogs from you ALSO presses the BLUE BUTTON
red
blue
reblog this post and put in the tags what you voted for
So I'm voting Red mainly because I'm close to the start of the chain and I have no information about how OP voted.
Assuming that information about who previously voted in your chain is provided it's still never a good idea to pick blue for one reason: every time someone picks blue atleast one more person can die.
Let's frame the voting structure as a tree, with OP at the root. Assuming op picked red, there is zero reason to pick blue, there is no one to save and picking blue puts yourself at risk. Thus making Red the obvious choice should the previous person on your branch have voted Red.
Voting blue however also has very little reason to be picked. Since we have information about what the previous voter picked it we assume that they picked blue we now have a decision to make, save yourself or save the person you voted from. Believe it or not being selfish reduces risk total deaths.
Since the person you previously voted from voted blue and can have any number of people after them vote from their branch, they can have any number of people vote blue to save them, however if more than one person votes blue, the number of possible deaths (and eventual deaths when the chains are inevitably ended when all possible votes are cares casted) increases by the number of extra blue votes.
Thus even if your previous voter voted blue, picking red is the smart decision. because voting blue not only puts yourself at unnecessary risk, but you are also putting the descendants of your branch at risk as well as they may vote blue to try and save you and generate extra blue votes.
This logic still holds in a system where you don't know the answer to who voted previously, voting blue will always increase the amount of risk taken on by those in your branch while voting Red does not create any additional risk.
Under this system there is no reason to vote blue, your vote at most saves a single individual and eventually those at the end of a blue voting chain will die.
Ergo the optimal voting strategy to save the most lives would be to vote red. As it ends blue voting benches and prevents more from being created
Chat pick blue

cool. another black child died in a hate crime
A South Carolina jury on Monday found a store owner not guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of a Black 14-year-old.
apparently the murder happened in 2023 after doing some research but the murderer has been found not guilty.
black children get murdered and become victims of hate crimes every fucking day. this is ridiculous
im posting this here despite the website being extremely white centered, I want people to understand how in this country it's basically ok to murder and victimize black people, especially women and children in the name of "self defense" and white America will reward you for your antiblackness.
A South Carolina gas station owner was charged with murder on Monday after allegedly shooting and killing a 14-year-old boy he believed was
The headlines of the two articles don't really convey how fucking horrible this was. To anyone scrolling by who wasn't going to click on the links, here is a short summary:
The store owner got his gun out, and he and his son started chasing the 14-year-old boy, because they FALSELY believed he stole FOUR BOTTLES OF WATER.
The boy who was being CHASED WITH A GUN FOR NO REASON did carry a gun, and it would have been very much justified to actually take it out (because he feared for his life since he was being CHASED WITH A GUN FOR NO REASON), but witnesses never saw it in his hands, and at no point did he actually point it at his two pursuers. He had his back towards them the entire time because he was FLEEING.
The kid stumbled and fell, dropping his gun in the process. The gun was only ever seen on the ground next to his body, it probably fell from his waistband or pocket or whatever, not his hands. And since it was dropped, he did not have it on him AT ALL when he was murdered. He was SHOT IN THE BACK WHILE LYING UNARMED ON THE GROUND.
The sheriff's report written in 2023 said that this was "not a bias-motivated incident" even though there is literally zero ambiguity that this man was just itching to shoot a Black kid. There is no other explanation for why you would take your gun out and chase him more than 100 yards over a vague, weak, unfounded suspicion that he might have stolen four (4) bottles of water. In and of itself, the train of thought "this Black kid was holding four bottles of water at some point, and now he's leaving the store, clearly there's no chance that he simply put them back, he must have stolen them" is already racist as hell. But the cops say "well there's absolutely no indication that shooting an unarmed 14-year-old Black boy because you falsely suspected him of stealing a few dollars worth of water was motivated by bias" because of fucking course they do.
The murderer was found "not guilty" because the self-defence reasoning was accepted even though multiple witnesses confirmed that the kid did not have a gun out as he was running from the store, and definitely did not point it at his pursuers at any point. If anything, the kid would have been the person for whom self-defence would have been justified since he was the one being actively chased with a gun.
Happy fucking pride Jonathan was murdered for being queer AND native It was a hate crime His death wasnât by natural causes Jonathan Joss being queer and also native is a big thing as to why he was targeted in a hate crime Thatâs being left out of this conversation by non natives esp white non natives right now We know why They erasing that part of this During pride and indigenous month no less too His queerness and being indigenous are linked in thisďżź

happy pride month.
in new zealand, our evil government are trying to legislate definitions of women and men, in ways that are legally incoherent but clearly trying to pave the way for more horrifically transphobic legislation. we have an election in a few months but our main opposition party, and all our mainstream news media, are so spineless and cooked that there's a good chance the ghouls will win reelection.
it took 2 whole months for local terf group 'speak up for women' to get 2,000 signatures on the petition that led to this new bill in our parliament.
it's taken five days for this pro-trans 'they don't speak for us' petition to get 17,000 signatures.
this is a show of support that is really heartening for a lot of trans people in our corner of the world.
cis/ish women, if you're from here but haven't signed yet, please do. and if you're not from here and you know any new zealanders, could you send them this petition? a full fifth of our population lives overseas, and there's a good chance they don't follow the news.

Happy Pride Month
Reblogging this yearly for anyone who needs a very clean version <3 Happy Pride.
Reblog to put the sex and magic back into pride
i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is âinternationalâ pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isnât our pride, itâs theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that âyou owe your rights to Black trans womenâ is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) MÄori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa donât even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we donât.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1989. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. iâm truly sorry that most of you donât see the negative impact your nationâs culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and cultureâs queer history, donât accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
this post is closing in on 10k and itâs really quite enlightening reading through the notes.
the most frequent reactions are from people from Not America agreeing that the cultural force of american pride has detracted in some tangible way from their knowledge or recognition of their own history. thereâs so many links and references in the notes now, for so many different places. i had a scroll through some of them, that i could find versions of in english. the world has such a rich queer history, and i am inspired by all of the people saying theyâre going to go and research more of their own histories. there have been resources shared from all six permanently inhabited continents (none from antartica, yetâŚ), including a lot (relative to the usual zero) from the regions most frequently glossed over in our global queer histories; africa, the middle east, southeast asia, the pacific, and south america. every single person whoâs shared a queer historical figureâs name, or a book or other source, or a historical event from their country or culture is doing an important thing by helping to dismantle the US pride hegemony.
the next most frequent reactions are from americans pissing on the poor, and claiming that either itâs not their fault individually because [nebulous reason missing the point] and/or that iâm racist (someone even said fascist lmao?) because the two people i mentioned were Black and latin american⌠itâs not the fault of those two women nor myself that americans have chosen their faces and names to put at the front of their imperialist pride. cultural imperialism doesnât have to LOOK racist! you can be unintentionally culturally imperialist and look woke! a lot of the people who do this are queer and liberal or even leftist. the problem is forcing american queer history on the rest of us. shoutout to the Black and latine people in the notes whoâve rightfully pointed out that thatâs a bullshit rebuttal. Iâve also noted the autocorrect typo on Marshaâs name, and fixed it, thanks for the heads up.
sort of the point of cultural imperialism is that the people doing it donât notice it on an individual level. of course you donât feel like youâre responsible! of course you struggle to see it when the rest of us point it out! thatâs by design! if the rest of the world is saying something is a real experience that theyâve had, and you say âwell i donât see it / iâm not responsible for it,â that is blatant denial of a very real issue.
finally, for the love of god, stop using they/them for me, a trans woman who exclusively uses she/her. my pronouns are front and centre on my blog! funny how the people calling me racist and transmisogynistic for Using Examples are also frequently degendering me in the process, huh?
anyway, this vent was never intended to go viral, i posted it on a quiet afternoon after a conversation with a friend about our queer history here. iâm glad it has, though, because glossing over the americans swinging and missing, the breadth of history and knowledge being shared in the notes is a wonderful thing.
