Darlin’s reaction to Quinn’s death.

Cw: character death, mixed feelings and angst

The rain started in the middle of the fight, heavy and loud. Drenching the vampire and wolf as they fought up until the wolf sat over the dying vampire.

Darlin gasped and almost choked of the blood that pooled in their mouth. Sitting it out, and snarling as they looked at the vampire. His expression surprised and almost fond?

“Oh, poppy.” Quinn’s voice was weak, laced with sweetness. The pet name and his tone made them sick. “You did so well.”

Darlin punched him again, pain rolling over their body with the sudden movement. Their wounds aching.

“Shut up-“ They growled, Quinn cough and smiled. Slowly raising one of his hands, Darlin wanted to move away but they didn’t. His blood finger tips touched their cheek, a feather like touch. It reminded Darlin of how he would touch them when they were together.

“I love you- Always will.” Quinn’s hand dropped as his body began turning to ash, the words echoed in their mind.

They sat in the dirt, blood shocked and drenched in rain.

They should be relieved. They wanted to be but they felt sick. Their stomach twisted in a knot, their shoulder started shuddering and vision started going blurring from tears.

They were that remembering that now!? Memories of their softer moment started going through their mind. Memories of Quinn. His loving touches. His whispering affection and praise. The first time he said I love you.

They weren’t even aware that they were screaming, holding their head and tears spilled from their eyes. Their head dropped, their forehead touching the dirt while sobbing.

“Darlin?” Sam voice snaps them out to of their despair, he was kneeling next to them with a panicked expression. “I’ve got you. It’s me, I’ve got you.”

Darlin stifles sobs, looking Sam up and down before throwing them self into his arms. Sam so felt sturdy and safe. They hurt. Their body burned and their mind was manic.

Sam carefully rubbed circles on their back and gently rocking them as they cried. Their hands clung to Sam. Their face buried into crook of his neck, he felt safe. Warm. He felt like home while Darlin’s mind reeled.

But Darlin can say the sweetest things in the most aggressive tone

Darlin, with their jaw clenched: you look good today.

Angel: thanks…? Why are you mad??

The only time they don’t look as pissed is when they’re with Angel or the newborns

Because one minute they’ll be all

Angel: do you think stuffed animals have feelings?

Darlin: what the fuck no dumbass

Angel, wearing Darlin’s jacket: h-

Angel, talking to David: so then I was telling Marie that-

Darlin: bursts through the door, lifts Angel over their shoulder and walks out

Just David realising some parts of himself very time Sam calls him “sir.”

Tanker is definitely seeing David in a different light, with him being a lot taller and stronger than they remember

The lingering touches on eachothers arms when they swing at eachother

The not so subtle staring at eachothers bodies

And even after the match

When they’re healing up eachothers minor wounds (they didn’t want to bother sam) and their hands roam eachothers bodies in silence followed by the occasional snarky remark from David and witty reply from Darlin

It becomes routine between matches to review eachothers movies and give feedback, and eventually, Darlin does win

Angel just goes “yeah they’re hot as fuck. I’m not surprised.”

It definitely DOES get a reaction out of him, just not what they were expecting

David also has a bit of a power trip seeing Tank under him, vulnerable to him, and if he wasn’t so turned on by the sight, he’d actually be a little flattered that Tank trusts him so much

They’re sparing, as usual David has them under him but they’re struggling and he tell them to stop and Darlin being a little shit says “Or what, sir?”

Angel has to trick them both into taking when they scheduled a group meet up and then cancelled last minute because something came up

Sam lies and says that he has to watch the newborns, and Darlin knows it’s a lie because it was Vincent’s night to watch them

Tank and David end up going to the hang out anyway, and they talk about it for a long while. David starts off apologizing because he thinks tank was mad or didn’t want to kiss him, but tank apologizes just as fast for avoiding him after

“What makes you think I was mad?”

“You- You avoided us.”

“David you idiot I avoided you because I liked it and didn’t know what to do.”

Alternative ending to the conversation:

“David I avoided you because I liked it.”

“….?”

Not that tanks complaining, but it does fluster them quite a bit when they’re falling asleep during movie night and Angel takes the chance to kiss the top of their head

Most often it’s hickeys but sometimes it’s light scratches on their back (mostly David) or a piece of clothing like their jacket or hoodie or pants

It doesn’t even have to be lasting

One time at a dinner party with a few other packs from out of dahlia, someone was a little too close to Sam for Darlin’s comfort, so they excused him to the bathroom

At least until he sees David in a suit for the first time, laughing and smiling with some of the guests

This is the first time same takes notice that both David and Darlin have slightly sharper canines than most shifters do

Or, at least that’s sams reasoning when he asks David about it

It takes every ounce of David’s being to not rip the (very nice and very expensive) clothes Sams wearing to pieces right then and there

Sam’s getting used like a chew toy, he’s whining or what Tanker calls purring. David on his chest and working his way down while Tanker abuses his neck.

Angel, who has had to work late that night gets a video sent to them with the caption. “Turn of audio. Or put in headphones.”

When Angel DOES get home, Sams still on Tanks lap, tank holding his arms behind him while David welcomes Angel back (although his shirt seems to be conspicuously absent, as well as tanks and Sam well,,,he doesn’t really have anything on)

Tank uses their free hand to tap sams thigh, and Sams head turns to look at Angel. His face is a mess and his neck and chest is littered with bite marks and hickeys. His hair is disheveled, sticking to his forehead, and his eyes are extremely dilated, dark and pretty and staring directly at Angel.

Usually when Angel is present, all of the attention isn’t on him however when Angel joins in on biting he could’ve felt dread but Angel gently kissing over the bite marks felt to damn hold.

But he knew it wasn’t going to convince them. “Please what? You gotta use your words, Cowboy.” Another remark from Tank.

Tank must’ve been getting too chatty for David’s liking, because one of David’s hands found their way to Tanks neck. He didn’t squeeze or even apply pressure, just continued to kiss all over Sam, currently fixated on his thighs. His hand was there as a warning, that he could do the same thing to rank that he is to Sam

And it must’ve worked because Sam didn’t hear anything else from Darlin other than the occasional growl

David growled at this but he smirked when Tank’s hands moved to hold Sam’s hip still. Sam’s heads Tanker let out an amused hum while Angel laughs.

And he does just that.

Again and again and again until he’s in tears, gripping hard at Darlin’s shoulders while Angel comforts him through the overstimulation, thighs twitching and muscles convulsing while David hums, satisfied with Sams legs over his shoulders and heels pressing into his back, and involuntary plead for more.

After coming down from his high, Sam looks himself over and just mutters; “I hate you all.”

We gotta do this more often

Sam shows up to Vincent’s later on with some faded bite marks still visible but vehemently refuses to tell Vincent or lovely anything

But we can’t forget sams a vampire, and based on Vincent’s description of feeding or biting someone, it feels pretty euphoric

Sam definitely bites them back, David while he’s cooking dinner for everyone (they had to order pizza that night), Darlin after they went out and some creep tried to flirt with them in front of Sam (Darlin could handle it themselves, but Sam was still a little riled up when they got home), and Angel at a random time because, well, they’re Angel. They wanted to be included and see what the big deal was

Just had the image of Sam going “David, watch this,”

Going up behind Tank, acting a sweet and loving. Kissing their cheek and then kissing their neck before gently biting which instantly causes Tanker to whine. A sound David’s never heard before and he is now determined to know how to make Tank make that sound again.

Once David figures our exactly what Sam did, it’s a constant and Darlin never knows when it’s going to happen

He does it randomly; when they’re in the shower together, after sparing, once in the middle of movie night and Tank has never turned that many shades of red

David isn’t entirely sure why, but something about tank, the most stubborn in the pack who’s never even thought about calling David “alpha” being so flustered sends his mind spiraling and a heat pooling in his stomach. He holds them from behind, sitting on the couch with them between his legs, and it’s from here he realizes how much bigger he is compared to them now.

He and Angel start to really realising how much Tanks body has been through. David noticing how much of their body has been marked up with scars.

Darlin’s not super self conscious about their scars, they’re pretty proud of most of them, actually. But sometimes they do feel a little down in the dumps about them, bundled up in sweatpants and one of David’s sweaters, lounging in their bed and scrolling through their phone without really paying attention

Angel was the only one home, Sam and David were out shopping for dinner and they take notice. So, they slide into bed with them and pull tank into a hug/cuddle, tanks head resting gently on angels stomach

Angel takes one hand to gently rub their back, the other tracing over visible scars on their arm and palm. Angel takes their hand in theirs and presses a kiss over one scar on the back of Darlin’s hand

When David and Sam return to the house quiet, they’re slightly unsettled. Even more so when they hear tank of all people whimpering.

Tanker is not used to being called pretty so that just makes it worse.

“Oh, come on, Damie. The waitress just said we made a cute couple. ‘S not a big deal.” The Freelancer’s words were only a little bit slurred as they grinned at their grumpy companion. The buzz from the wine only helped embolden them, they usually wouldn’t try to purposefully poke the fire elemental. But his reactions were oh so fun.

“She shouldn’t be making assumptions regarding her customer’s relationship statuses. It’s rude and unprofessional.” He grumbled out before he took a sip of his own wine, though it didn’t hide the way his cheeks flushed.

They snickered, setting their empty glass down before they leaned their shoulder into his, “You’re getting so worked up over it though! What’s that one quote? ‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks.’?” They giggled as he pushed them off of him.

“Your alcohol tolerance is shit. Who gets drunk off two glasses of wine?” He snapped out. “And I’m not protesting too much, Freelancer. I’m protesting just the right amount. We aren’t a couple. We’re friends.”

“Pffft, you know you love me. You wouldn’t put up with all of my shit if you didn’t. You would have flambéed me by now.” They mimed an explosion before they leaned back against the arm of the couch. “Face it, Damien. You liiiiike me.”

“I’ll kiss you right now to prove that I don’t feel anything for you.”

The Freelancer paused, giving him one long, slow blink as they processed his words. “Um...sorry, I think I misheard you. What-”

“I said, I’ll kiss you right now to prove I don’t feel anything for you.” His dark eyes were serious as he set the wine glass on the table and turned toward them. “I put up with your shit, because we’re friends. Nothing more.”

They snorted softly, “If you wanted to kiss me, Damie, you could have just said so. You didn’t have to-” His hands hit the armrest on either side of them, their words dying in their throat as he leaned over them. With the heat coming off his body, they were surprised the couch cushion didn’t ignite at the contact.

“Stop running your mouth, Freelancer, or I’ll put it to use.”

They really couldn’t help themselves, the words tumbled out with a snort, “You taking lessons from Gavin or-” His lips crashed into theirs, their quip ending in a soft moan that he easily ate up. His lips were so soft yet so searing, moving against theirs like he was trying to memorize the feel of them as he pressed them into the couch.

A gasp tore free from their throat as his fingers tangled into the hair at the base of their neck, jerking their head back enough to deepen the angle as his teeth grazed along their bottom lip. Their hands slid along his sides up to his back, fingers fisting in his shirt to pull him in closer. His mouth moving against theirs was kind of sloppy, rushed in his need as he lost himself in them. The Freelancer’s head was spinning, theirs senses full of him: his searing touch igniting their skin, his scent surrounding them, his taste on their tongue. They gasped in a breath when he eventually pulled back, the two staring hazily at each other as they pulled in ragged breaths.

Of course, the Freelancer had to break the silence, “So...you don’t feel anything for me?” Damien groaned at the question, his body stiffening as he went to pull away but was stopped by their grip on his shoulders. “Can you show me how you feel for me again? You know... to really drive the point home?”
