My boyfriend just woke up, mostly still asleep and told me âdonât worry, itâs getting betterâ in a heavy, American accent, which is unusual for an Australian man.
âWhy are you American?â I asked, to which I got:
âSorry, itâs getting betterâ in a stereotypical posh English accent.
âWhy are you English?â I asked, amused.
âWhat is he normally?â He managed to ask.
âHe? Youâre not anyone else, youâre you.â
âUgh, meâ was the last thing he said, in a right proper Aussie accent before he fell back into proper sleep.
Bitch just thwarted a ghost possession by judging his accents
Hear me out
The BBEG is seemingly revealed very early and the PCs have loads of interactions with them. They get to know that a quirk of this BBEG is that theyâre always wearing a hat, maybe the hat never falls off or they take special measures to stop their hat from coming off etc. The PCs will naturally take this as a challenge to try and remove the hat at all costs. when the DM wishes, they reveal that the BBEG is just an innocent NPC who is being ratatouilled by a smaller being who has been the real BBEG all along.
If you're a DM and tired of your players constantly killing important NPCs there is one easy solution. Have the stats ready at all times for every important NPC to possibly be an ancient dragon (color of your choice) in disguise. See! Problem solved!
I love this solution because it also gives them immediate consequences.
Dem bitches gonna learn.
I told myself if my players ever treated the NPCs in the stores badly I would do this, but they have yet to do so. I blame this on the fact that I give all the stores punny names based on what they sell, and then have the NPCs who work there either be delightfully awkard or a bit of an oddball... oooor make them extremely attractive to one of the characters. They once befriended the owner of a little potions shop (because she was a Tabaxi and one of my players LOVES cats) and, upon finding out she had a stalker, was planning to basically murder him... and then they found out he was a just-as-shy Kenku who had a crush on her but was too shy to say so. They then played matchmaker and got the two together.Â

put this in the MOMA
Thinking fondly about the entire genre of victorian hauntings that were "everybody who stayed in the house after dark saw weird shit going on for months until the entire structure suddenly combusted of its own ghostly accord" which abruptly ended as soon as we stopped lighting our homes with vast quantities of odorless gas

Controlled bathroom breaks are dumb, if I gotta go I gotta go! (x)
This is the thread I got mad in!
âŚIâm still mad!
I see people use the excuse âbut what if theyâre just going so they donât have to pay attention!â a lot, and itâs a really poor excuse.
Aside from the fact that kids (and adults!) need and are entitled to regular mental breaks, keeping a bored kid in the classroom isnât going to magically make them pay attention. What it IS going to do is create an environment of distraction for the people around them. You wanna know how I know? I was that kid. I have adhd, and when I wasnât able to get up and walk around, I talked to everyone. Constantly. When allowed to go outside and refresh my brain when needed, I became a lot less disruptive.
And when itâs older kids? If a high schooler doesnât want to learn something, theyâre not going to, and you canât make them. Thatâs their mistake to make. As a teacher, try making the material more accessible and engaging. Thatâs your job. Whether the student does their job is on them.
âKids have died in bathroom fightsâ is definitely an argument I havenât seen before, but itâs so patently ridiculous that I donât think it needs to actually be addressed.
THIS SHIT MAKES ME SO ANGRY. When I was a teacher, I taught in a high school that had a lot of kids that came from poorer families. You know what I did? I always had a drawer FULL of snacks. Some sugary treats, but a lot of stuff that one might consider âfood food,â not just a treat. You know what I found out? Kids would ask for a snack at the beginning of class if they wanted one, and it affected my class POSITIVELY. Kids that I knew NEEDED something to eat would be able to grab crackers and tuna or something, and other kids would just be happy to come into my class to see what I had stocked in the drawer.Â
The kids learned to be respectful of the food BY THEMSELVES. Yâall should have seen it. Kids were policing each other in how much food they took, so that one student wouldnât take all the zebra cakes or whatever, but not a single time was a kid scolded for taking a couple packs of crackers or whatever. And they all made sure that no one left trash around.Â
Feeding kids is important, and if you canât teach kids while they eat a snack, you just canât teach.
I have a fucking teaching credential. They literally taught us about Maslowâs hierarchy of needs and how kids canât fucking learn if theyâre hungry or stressed or scared. Itâs in the fucking credential program. They talk about why snacks and free lunch programs are so important for low income kids. For some kids school is the only place they can get a decent meal.
Fuck these teachers pretending like obedience matters more than learning.
Literally the number one thing I buy for my classroom during a regular is snacks. If Iâmma do anything, Iâmma make sure those kids eat.
I canât expect them to learn and be functional if theyâre having hunger pains, wtf
My all time favorite teacher (chemistry) started every class with a âcandy quizâ where she would ask questions about what weâd gone over last time & then toss candy at you if you answered a question. Even if you got it wrong. âHershey kiss for effort!â âMaybe some sugar will help you remember.â âOof, not firing on all cylinders today, huh? Have a Gobstopper.â
I always thought she did it because our class was just before lunch so we were all starving, but nope. It was every class.
My AP English teacher had a bowl of granola bars & two coffee pots set up in the back. One with coffee & one with plain hot water (she provided Lipton tea but you could bring in whatever you wanted).
If you brought in fancy coffee, you got to be her favorite for the day. It only meant you got a star sticker slapped on your forehead, which you wouldnât think high schoolers would care about, but we did. đ¤Ł
She also had a pizza fund for each class. Mason jars with tape identifying which class it was. Weâd toss in our change & whatever & once we hit $20, sheâd order us all pizza.
It wasnât until I was an adult that I realized ordering five pizzas was a bit more than $20. She just wanted us to feel a sense of accomplishment. â¤ď¸
One of my history teachers liked to bake & heâd take votes on what cookies to bring in. His snicker doodles were out of this world delicious & I tried for four years to get the recipe out of him. LOL
The best teachers acknowledge that their students are people with basic needs/wants & not just cogs in a machine. đ
All of the above is valid and true, but Iâve still gotta ask:
What the fuck kind of lethal fight does that one person think a kid is going to get into in their own fucking bathroom?
My lit teacher knew that his class would get colder than any of the other ones in the hall, so he actively encouraged us to bring a jacket or a blanket to keep warm cause it wasnât something he could fix. My friend kept a snuggie in her locker that we all would use (we all had his class in different periods) and he didnt care cause we were paying attention. Didnt matter that we were wrapped up in giant blankets, we were at least focusing on him and not the cold.
My french teacher knew that my adhd medication started to wear off during her class, and one of the side effects was that it would suppress my appetite. This meant that once i got to her class i would be hungry and want to eat the snacks id packed for the day. She let me eat my goldfish while i worked because she knew that those goldfish were probably the first thing id eaten that day.
The best teachers i had were the ones that knew i had adhd and worked around it. They didnt mind if i took a 10 minute break from working to just doodle because they understood that me sketching was my way of resetting my brain.
The sign of a good teacher is one that adapts to their students needs, and treats them like the humans they are.
As a Type I Diabetic, food was always something I had with me in elementary school. I had a stash in my desk specifically for if my blood sugar dipped. At the start of the year my mother would give me a piece of paper to give to the teacher to read out in class that explained what diabetes was, why I had the snacks, and why I couldnât share them. Sheâd also come in to field questions if possible (I started doing it in the later grades myself).
Very rarely did I have to use that stash, but every time I did no one was ever bothered by it. My classmates would pretend it wasnât there and weâd merely continue on with our work, and my teachers would always come around and check on me when they saw I was having a snack, which I always found very kind. Oftentimes in our elementary school one kid would just bring snacks for everybody (usually in the form of âmy mom baked cookies for us today!â) and not once did it ever become an issue. We were always super aware of allergies in our school (it was common knowledge what allergy everyone in class had to foodstuffs, and we were completely peanut-free for the entirety of the school as well). Weâd share them, and otherwise snack on them while we did our work, and thatâs all because our teachers LET us.
So as a kid who medically needed snacks at times, I do not for the life of me understand now, as a teacher myself, why kids shouldnât be allowed to eat while theyâre learning. It isnât that hard to multitask the two, after all. I had the excuse of âmy blood sugarâ to snack, but I see no reason why a student canât just say âIâm hungryâ and that be enough. They arenât causing a distraction, and theyâll listen even better when theyâre not focused on how their stomach is growling.Â
Finally got the lovers to reunite <3 Had to draw them! ^W^
