And let’s not forget that the post-WWII economy of the baby boomers had “relative security” because a bit of military-fueled Keynesianism in a country whose infrastructure wasn’t destroyed by continent-wide war helped boost a particular fraction of usually-white people into a “Leave It To Beaver” middle class; poverty was still rampant and people of color were overwhelmingly deprived of the same advantages granted to white families (“White Flight”). The problems of capitalism extend far beyond just the last few decades of neoliberalism – I want that to be clear.
