That person blaming the inclusion of non-ciswomen in the narrative of abortion definitely seems like a radical feminist to me. It's baffling that they think by making abortion strictly about cis-women, which, honestly, the broader narrative has always been about, we would somehow gain more favor with those who are anti-abortion. Like isn't the entire reason anti-abortion sentiment exists because they believe abortion is disruptive to the traditional family ideal? So as long as a woman decides to not pursue that for whatever reason, she is instantly an enemy to anti-abortionists.
Yes, that's a good point. To be honest, we're still at a point in our culture where many people are more confused than anything when you say "people with uteri" or use gender-neutral language concerning reproductive rights. Whenever I see somebody using that language outside of Tumblr more people mock it than actually engage with what's being said.
Reproductive rights has always been associated with women and always will be. Being a woman is still largely viewed as being synonymous with having XX chromosomes, uterus/ vagina. We can't lose sight of the big picture of this and act like a minority somehow controls our cultural narrative about gender because they don't.
I personally (if I type it all out) will say "women, trans men, and nonbinary folks" because I don't prefer using 100% gender neutral language in exact acknowledgement of the fact that most people believe they're solely directing control over (cis) women's bodies when they legislate the womb.
This is something I've honestly given a lot of thought to as a cis woman and as someone who has experienced the gamut of reproduction (pregnancy, labor, birth, miscarriage). I have seen the arguments against acknowledging trans and gender variant folks and I just don't agree.
Abortion has been on the chopping block for a long time (literally since it passed!) and there's so many reasons for that and the main one isn't because people are confused about what genders they're oppressing. It's because-- like you said--*anything* that doesn't punish those outside of the heteropatriarchal family unit needs to change. This is about punishment and control of everybody who isn't a cis man.
In the Evangelical world, you must be a trad wife (pregnant, submissive, and financially dependent) because that's your punishment coming from Eve. If you try to skirt that, you're evil and must be stopped. These ideals have gradually seeped out of only being in the Evangelical world to becoming more mainstream in the secular world via the manosphere.
We see that these forced birth laws are made in tandem with making gender affirming healthcare illegal. This is done in tandem with lowering the marriage age. This is done in tandem with revoking rights from non-heterosexual folks. I think our feminism is stronger when we recognize the nexus of the Right's attack and band together.
